Ezra remotely appearing in court today and pleading not gulity.

He faces 26 years in prison if found gulity

Ezra Miller Pleads Not Guilty To Felony Burglary Charges; ‘Flash’ Star Faces 26 Years In Vermont Prison If Convicted

Allowed to appear remotely early Monday for the session in the criminal division of the Green Mountain State’s Superior Court, Miller was told to stay away from the neighbor whose home he entered earlier this year.

Along with neighbor Isaac Winokur, Miller was also prohibited from interacting with another Vermont resident, Aiden Early, as conditions of their release.

Miller faces a maximum of 26 years behind bars as well as over $2,000 in fines if found guilty of the charges stemming from the spring incident which entailed stealing three bottles of liquor –gin, vodka and rum — from Winokur’s pantry.

In a jovial and chipper mood Monday morning, the casually dressed actor will have to return to court per Superior Court Judge Kerry A. McDonald-Cady, virtually or in-person, at an determined future date for more proceedings in this matter. “Ezra would like to acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health,” said in part a statement soon after today’s hearing from attorney Lisa B. Shelkrot.

With more than a few pennies potentially on the line for Warner Bros Pictures and the studio’s long-awaited, $200 million-budgeted The Flash flick out next year, the nonbinary-identifying Miller agreed to five overall conditions, the most pressing being that the actor “can’t have any contact with Isaac Winokur or Aiden Early, either by phone, in person, email, text, posting on social media” and “can’t abuse or harass them as well,” ordered McDonald-Cady.

“We agree to those conditions,” said Miller’s attorney Lisa Skelkrot, who sat with the actor in her Burlington, VT, office.

In response to those conditions, Miller told the judge, “I do understand.”.........

The script for the sequel has also been written, so if Ezra does end up facing very lengthy prison time, some sort of wibbly wobbley timey wimey to explain a different actor for the sequel.

If the sequel takes as long the this one to get to screen he could well have served a sentence and been released freshly reabilitated and ready to star again.

I doubt the sequel will take the same amount of time.

A Christmas ornament for The Flash movie seems to suggest that Michael Keaton's Batsuit has a similar design to the official photos of the suit and maybe the Halloween costume.

Your thoughts on this. Would you think that this is similar to Keaton's new Batsuit?

Hopefully they'll flash Ezra Miller out of it somehow

Miller pleads guilty to trespassing charge, and looks like they'll avoid jail-time.

Actor Ezra Miller is expected to plead guilty to a lesser charge of trespassing in Vermont after he was accused of stealing several bottles of alcohol from someone's home.

    ...

A clerk for Vermont Superior Court confirmed that the parties have agreed to drop the burglary and larceny charges.

Miller is expected to enter a guilty plea Friday in Bennington County Superior Criminal Court.

Court documents show prosecutors are proposing that Miller face 89 to 90 days in a suspended sentence, as well as a year’s probation and a $500 fine.

Ideally it would somehow introduce at least 1 solid character of the New DC going forward- they've plenty of time to get it sorted!

Sounds like there'll be a new trailer happening during the Super Bowl on Feb 12; will be interesting to see if Batman finally makes a proper appearance, or indeed how they market this what with the publicised new direction headed by Gunn.

I know it's not but that really looks like the Batpod from the Nolan movies

Huh, wasn't expecting Zod to figure as the main threat; kinda makes sense if there were no metas that the first real problem that appeared - the General - there was nobody to stop him. Wonder what happened to Clark then that Kara still made it to Earth. I am a sucker for alternate timelines, so my interest is a lot more energised than, say, it ever was for Black Adam. Also for sure feels like they're essentially rebooting the universe through this film.

That said, while the presence of Keaton donning the suit is a thrill, seeing him stomp about such a normal and mundane-looking world - and not the Tim Burton gothic abstraction we had seen him in - is a bit weird. He almost doesn't belong.

The main takeaway from that trailer is how much better Danny Elfman's 'Batman' theme is than any modern-day superhero film music.

Don't remember if I knew Zod was in it. Think the trailer gave a lot away.

Spoiler from the Flashpoint comics that inspired the film

That trailer seems to be basically a summary of Flashpoint.

Yeah there is alot of parallels with the Flashpoint comic. Supergirl was obviously captured by the government when she landed on Earth kind of like Clark was in that series. Barry went to a different universe and didn't go back in time which is probably why there is another version of him. I would have loved if Keaton was playing Thomas Wayne instead as he would have been a cool Batman.

It's all just a bit mad from a studio POV, isn't it?

Like, do WB think they're sitting on something special here; that this has survived in spite of Ezra's extra curricular activities, in spite of rewriting/reshooting etc, when all other projects have been canned?

Or are they throwing good money after bad?

Or do they think this is a suitable way to reboot the cinematic universe?

The trailer etc, all seems - fine. It's unfortuante that you can have two Flash's characters on screen, and Batman still remains the most captivating character.

A bit of all of the above. They spent too much money on it to lose (whereas Batgirl had a much lower budget), it acts as a reboot for the new DCU, and chances are there's enough good in the film with Affleck's last appearance as Batman and especially Keaton's return after all these years, that they're willing to ignore the Ezra Miller stuff at least until after the film (where they could still decide to get rid of them after). But most reports also seem to point towards the film actually being really good regardless.

I'd say the final act will be where we'll see the reshoots dovetailing into the new universe: if DC can manage it, they could have the film end on the mic drop of Barry Allen retuning to his proper world .. ... and meets the new Superman, Batman etc. Roll credits, cue the hypeslosion on Social Media

If they were smart, they'd do this from his point of view never showing him in the shot, leaving it up to them to replace the actor if needed

Ezra looks pretty good in this trailer, so it's not hard to fathom why WB stuck to their guns in protecting them. I've no doubt they'll drop him like a rock into the river once the film is released, but based on this trailer you can't say that Ezra isn't pulling it off. That just about helps them justify not sacking them outright.

I thought the problem started after filming was done but he attack a woman in a bar in Iceland and was in some kind of relationship with a 12 year old girl. And I read the whole spiral of what he did after the movie had wrapped.

I cannot understand why in the world they didn’t just cut him loose and cast a new actor.

I know it will all be in my head watching the movie.

Mark Wallbergs low body fat percentage alone should guarantee him a big role in the DC universe going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

He’ll be in nigh on every scene - you can’t just recast a new actor for the leading role at that stage, it’d mean doing everything all over again and doubling your whole cost of production. I’d say it was a case of sticking with him, or binning the whole project.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I imagine recasting would have further ballooned an already increased budget from all the apparent reshoots. A y chance of making bank alongside openly indulging in the extra curricular controversy of its actor. I guess the studio hoped they could have it blow over.

The trailer looked great and like others it pains me as I'm very much anti Ezra Miller!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,282 ✭✭✭Spon Farmer

I never said anything about recasting him during production.

I questioned why Warner Bros. Didn’t drop him BEFORE production when he attacked a woman in Iceland and had a 12 year old girl in his entourage. Which was during the filming of Fantastic Beasts. So I don’t know they cast him in Justice League either.

Also the majority of the problems occurred AFTER filming so I don’t know why anyone is talking about firing him during production.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,282 ✭✭✭Spon Farmer

Again I never said anything about recasting during or after filming.

The incidents in Hawaii, the burglary, the woman and her child and the parents of the the Native American girl getting protection orders - all that was after filming ended.

Maybe the assault in Reykjavik had blown over but surely people were not ignoring the relationship with the Native American child.

So I asked why they cast him in Justice League in the first place. Did no one in the studios think “this guy is odd and might be trouble?”

I gave up watching trailers years ago and I enjoy movies A LOT more. I never realised before how much spoilers they have.

I think Flashpoint should have been the second or last story in a trilogy and that the first movie should be a present day adventure that at some point could have Barry discover he time travel.

But I was looking forward to it anyway so The Flash is one of my favourite superheroes. And I could have ignored Miller’s personal problems (nothing to do with me) except he apparently has a desire for children.

That will be in my head when watching it - and I’m thinking as I type this that maybe I won’t go see it.

Really hoping JamesGunn has his own The Flash movie on his list. And that it is not too far away.

There simply wasn't enough noise/reason to justify any action before production. There was the weird quick video of the woman in Iceland, but that's all it felt like - a weird quick snapshot of some weird event without context. Wasn't clear if it was serious, or a joke or what. No charges, and it didn't cause much fuss, beyond the video itself going viral and people going 'huh, that was really weird'. That woman only actually spoke about the incident 2 years later, so until that point it just remained this nebulous unknown incident.

As you say, they had a friendship with the kid - Tokata Iron Eyes - from the Standing Rock protests, but at that stage there was nothing negative said about it - actually the opposite. It was only during/after production at the very end of 2021 that Tokata dropped out of Bard College to join up with Ezra when Tokata was 17, and it was only in 2022 that their parents came out saying they felt Ezra was coercing them, and filed legal action.

So really, there's just that little Iceland video, which at the time had no context or repercussions. So really everything damaging occurred either in the later stages of, or after, production, which was then too late. So we are where we are.
