so divisional teams banned from underage competitions. makes no sense to me when you see the amount of Duhallow lads playing for Cork now having played at a higher level underage.

Id imagine the football heads running the underage appalled at the amt of Duhallow lads involved with Cork hurling.

maybe so, its just a pity to see the hard work done to spread hurling in Duhallow and elsewhere is being undermined. they are proof that it can be done yet people do their best to scupper them and others. beggars belief when we should all be working to develop players and give them a chance to play at the highest level possible

Utter ill informed bullshot, you might do some research on this and see it emenates from some traditional hurling types from the big city and east cork hurling clubs. Nothing whatsoever to do with football people in duhallow or anywhere else

    It makes perfect sense

absolute nightmare dealing with any team from Duhallow fixture wise when you are also dealing with the divisional teams

It's up to clubs in Duhallow to get up standard on their own now

The good players will still get through the development squads

looks like they are serious about Colm O'Driscoll as an option at corner back, will be interesting anyway. half back look good going forward, might be a worry without the ball? heard Alan O'Connor is struggling to get back to fitness, may not return.

More in response to Muskerrys request to enter a divisional team in underage competitions to try and raise the standard of hurling in that division

hard luck to Colmans. anyone know how the game went, nip and tuck or were Colmans chasing the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭willietherock

Colmans were ahead for most of the 2nd half and pipped with a late score. Had a stone wall equalising free turned down at the death. Played in a snow blizzard/lashing rain. Cant question their heart. Continues the ever increasing list of narrow underage hurling defeats.

Playing with the elements Cork have been very good in the first half. Kerrigan, Clancy, Hurley and in particular Goulding look very lively.

Mayo not up to much, Keegan playing well, but with their star man on now I expect some high balls, wing assisted around the square in the second half. No doubt they need some goals.

    Ht Cork 0-12 v 0-04

    Ft Cork 1-18 v 0-11

A thoroughly impressive win for Cork. 2 softish penalties - Goulding missing his, Hurley scoring his, in the second half.

Plenty of good performances , especially motm Kerrigan with his forceful running and range of passing.

Black card and a second yellow leading to red near the end for Cork but it made very little difference.

Very happy with the fitness level and more importantly the style of play. I reckon Cork had more kick passes today than the whole of the league last year. It is great to see us moving the ball so quickly and directly.

As for Mayo , they were pretty muck.

I thought both penalty decisions were correct. Goalkeeper lead with his feet and Kerrigan got to the ball first for the first one and was a push in the back for second one.

Mayo goalkeeper was excellent - Cork could have had 3 more goals.

All in all, a very good start to the League campaign.

Mayo's medical team are going to be in the spotlight though - no way should Lee Keegan have been allowed play on - he was clearly concussed.

    .

Completely agree. Ridiculous decision. He will most probably not be allowed play next week v the dubs.

hopefully Maguire is over any injury issues, very good today and vital to us going forward. aside from those already mentioned I thought Connolly looked decent, didn't know he kicked frees too. Kelleher got very little ball so hard to judge

well done to Milford today, back into the All Ireland final

Wasn't at the game but viewing the match on rte last night the pitch looks like it is in rag order....must be tough on the players

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,385 ✭✭✭✭D'Agger

Only caught the first half yesterday but thought Cork were impressive. That said, at this stage, I'm almost not a fan of seeing teams be impressive at this time of year. They looked fit, full of running but sharp also - the pitch, despite looking poor enough, held up very well. Goulding & Hurley were sharp, thought the backs were solid as a unit.

One player I was looking for is Andrew Sullivan @ wing forward - thought we'd see a workman like performance, up and down the field. TBQH - I don't think he has the pace for inter county level, he might prove me wrong in the coming weeks but there was one particular ball put into space for him and he actually looked like he wasn't trying to get there, he was so badly outpaced.

Finally - to echo what's already been said - good to see forwards having the ball put in front of them, nice kick passing coming out of the backs

The senior hurlers played Antrim in Mallow last Sunday apparently. Anybody at it or hear anything about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭.E_C_K_S.

Just saw a bit on the back page of todays echo. Lorcan McLoughlin played for a part of the match (back from shoulder injury), also C Joyce played full game (coming back from cruciate inj) No score listed but mentioned Cork won well, with Paudie Sull getting 2-3 and Will Leahy getting 2 goals also.
