I do believe the turbo has sh1t itself on the 9-5, started the car tonight and after a bit of revving it completely took off idling at 4500 rpm :o smoke everywhere, this makes for bad times, but at least ill have something to do one of the weekends :pac:

Isn't this when the car refuses to switch off when you turn the ignition off? So to stop it from then wrecking the engine you need to stall it?
    Still sucks though :/

Anyone drive through Dungarvan around 530 this evening? Looked like the guards took out a car as the squad car and an a4 were both being loaded onto a tow truck.

Do you mean runaway diesel that would hardly happen on a petrol Saab. That runaway diesel is scary enough I'd say its when the piston seals etc start leaking really bad and the engine decides to run on oil rather than diesel and turning the key has no effect as all that's doing is stopping the supply of diesel really. I think the only you can do if that happens is to try and stall the car in gear there was threads on here about it before I wouldn't say it would be a nice experience.

This is a fair runaway diesel granted it's a truck. It's the oil seals leaking badly on the turbo that causes it.

Was playing around on youtube and ended up on this

Never seen these sort of accidents happen. The last one was pretty ballsy.

Took a video of it there, so, you can just about see the smoke, but theres a fair bit of white smoke coming out the exhaust

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,900 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Hmm, id probably go with the failing turbo theory as well. When my turbo was failing it was more of a blue smoke than white but the revs were always normal.

Yeah :o my next line of action is to check the turbo for play, if its wobbling all over the shop well, then its time to ask for an early xmas present, while i go order a fuel pump for the 900 and insure that for a while, at least the build thread will take off again! :pac::pac:

It's died quite a lot on him so far, he's completely fed up with it, he's planning on buying back his ST soon.

    What Volvo did he have?

Just ordered a pair of Ferodo front brake discs. As the brakes have felt a bit weak lately.

S60 2.0T Manual, looks great but there's been endless air/fuel flow problems I thunk.

    Just read this article:

    http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/good-times-back-as-luxury-car-sales-roar-ahead-30714635.html

Now forgive my ignorance, but since when did Skoda and Ford become "luxury" cars??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

That reminds me of an article a while ago where a 316d was referred to as a "high-powered" car.

It'll show you how little knowledge some of these journalists have about cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,900 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Which then reminds me of when AXA bumped up the insurance on my 1.9D S40 and said it was now considered a performance car.
When I first saw the title I thought it was going to be luxury Mercs and BMWs... the last cars I would have thought about were Skoda and Ford.

My mechanic hates those cars, he's had a couple that broke his heart
