My old carina 2 was the same,

95 astra did it too, that was linked to the hazard light button "issue" that old opels/vauxhalls had :pac:

My avensis could do that, but you had to kinda turn it in a certain way to do it.

Imagine driving something where the rest of the car would outlive the key...

05 Renault Megane, believe it or not both keys have been repaired more times than the car.

Same with my mams. Shame as it hasn't given any bother otherwise. The card for my dads laguna 3 seems alot sturdier. Time will tell.

I saw an 08 Mondeo today with what I'm almost certain were 4 space saver black wheels. At least 2 had v prominent 50/80 stickers and others had marks where it looked as if they had been removed. Is this a new fad or a new iteration of Paddy spec - I'll montise my car by selling the allots.

The wheel is the same size afaik, only the tyre is different. If you put a regular tyre on its the same as standard (except for the sticker)
Car local to me has this.

Some garages would have a heap of space savers lying around from people who bought a full size wheel/tyre,
Supposing someone robbed this persons alloys and they needed 4 wheels quickly/cheaply, lob 4 tyres on those and they'd be grand (in this case it'd do, as far as I know)

I hope the dealers don't see this they'll be getting ideas :pac: sure as it is most cars are now 200-300 euro to buy a spare tyre which was standard only a few years ago. We found that out when my dad was looking at vans recently he always asks about a spare wheel as he has a thing about them he also hates space savers. They are almost seen as an unnecessary extra at this stage. The can of gunk and air pump won't be much good to you if you damage the side wall or worse.

Here is a uk mondeo with the optional full size spare.
The tyre is 205/55/16 instead of 215/55/16 fitted to the other wheels hense the sticker.

I installed a new battery yesterday. By feck they didn't make it easy with all the crap that has to be disconnected and moved out of the way!

Had a go at the timing chain tensioner today but there's fook all room with a ratchet and socket (21mm) so I must buy a 21mm spanner instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,553 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Ratchet spanner might be an idea unless you need an open spanner.

    So after I saw the Mondeo, I saw a 151 D F-Type S; renewed my faith (in what, I don't know).

That 80 is presumably mph. The one I saw had 50 and 80 stickers.

Well the 407 drove away with it's new owner.

I've had my issues with it, but I think he's due some hassle-free motoring. Anything that goes wrong on it now (should be) just wear and tear.

He got it for €2,100, which is exceptionally good, in my opinion, for an 06 407 SX with leather and such. I paid a lot more.

I guess it just wasn't the car for me.

You were as well of to get rid of it. Life is too short to be having constant small annoying problems with a car. Even though I lost a bit on it I was glad to get rid of my focus. Are you replacing it with a jeep or are you going to go Carless for a while I think you've you didn't really need one unless I'm confusing you with someone else.

I reckon a 2.0 Accord would be the job for you.

Not too familiar with the Accord, but I imagine they're a money pit (and your comment was sarcasm?) :P

I have taken a shine to the Civic, that said...

Well I tend to be a bit OCD with the most trivial of things on a car. So I reckon I'd be getting peeved with things that most other people wouldn't even pass any remarks to. But the spoiler breaking was the 'sign', I think, that it just wasn't for me. Just when I'd addressed everything, petty vandalism started to crop up...

The Pathfinder is on my radar. But you're right, I don't need a car at the moment. So I'm gonna go carless for a while, I think. I'm a fat prick and the car was making me very lazy, so it might be just the boot in the hole I need to get back out walking again and into a better exercise routine.

Next car I buy will probably be a jeep (altohough as said above, the Civic has taken my eye, too, and would probably be a more sensible choice).

I'll see how I feel for the next couple of weeks and go from there.

I won't feel right posting here, now. I'll be like the beligerent old uncle that shows up at family get togethers. All my posts will start with "Back when I had a car..." :D

An Accord would be the polar opposite of a money pit.

@kkv the 04 onwards newer model accord was a good car especially in 2.0 ivtec guise although the 2.2 diesel was quite good too. My uncle has a 2.0 ivtec one and he likes it and he is literally as fusy as it gets with cars (mechanic) they are a nice car they don't feel that quick at low revs but when you get up in the revs and the vtec kicks in they are reasonably quick.

Pathfinder is a nice jeep very good off road too. But you'd want to be careful to find a decent one as they can have some issues.

Anyway when your looking for a new yoke post a thread about it you will get loads of help. And in the mean time keep posting here regardless of whether you own a car or not :)
