^^^ Interesting jeep...and reg. I think that's the 'highest' ZV plate I have seen to date...getting close to 100,000!!

Mark my words, the powers-that-be will issue ZV 100000+ unless something is done by the IVVCC before then. They will just follow the same route as ZZ plates...which went over 100,000 years ago.

Sure the ordinary D plates went over 100000 during the Tiger years so there's room on the plate for 199999 anyway, but I THINK there was a SLIGHTLY narrower font that allowed all the numbers on the standard plate.
Question is, when we get to 87 being allowed on a ZV (30+), will it be 87D23456 OR 87D103456

Some sightings. The Golf is VERY FAR from sunny NSW

Used to be a army green VW 181 always parked on Pearse st years ago before they became classics, anyone ever see it these days ??

I know the Camaro isn't classic per se but doesn't the rear end look like an MX3 ?

    Old character size 89mm x 63mm with a 16mm stroke (except of course 1 and I).

Current character size 70mm x 36mm with a 10mm stroke (same exception for width of 1 or I).

    21% shorter, 43% narrower, 37% narrower stroke.

Now that is a MASSIVELY smaller font to fit everything in. Never mind the extra regulation change done on the hoof to shorten the hyphens when they saw they were heading over 100,000 on the serial numbers.

My point is that I ...and very many vintage/classic vehicles owners... don't want ZV 100000+ registrations, not whether the digits will fit or not.

I agree that 'ZV' should stop at (December) 1986 vehicles (i.e. first reg abroad, or year/month of manufacture).

Noticing the mirror script in your photo of the Celica, what are you driving yourself?

Not much the wiser: US-market car because of the common sense reminder on the mirror, and LHD.
Is it a Camaro, a G8, an SS, a Caprice?

    How about a 'Capri-ce' :P:P

Never thought of the reminder as special but well spotted ;)

It's none of the above and it's RHD, but you will find that reminder on certain makes of cars sold here, maybe a carryover from their US models

    Chevrolet Epica?

    Chevrolet Epica?

Bingo ! Not proud of it but it does what I need it to do - large interior, have lowering springs for it but can't get shocks at a decent price (Shocks for my E430 were a fraction of the Epica's price  )

When '87 cars are being imported in 2017, they will be being imported after 2011 (obviously!), so will be assigned 87-D-12nnnnn numbers, or will be eligible for a ZV nnnnn registration.

Still have the E430 and a Grand Cherokee 4.7 in the garden so keep them running until times get better / cost of Irish motoring becomes more reasonable  At least the Epica has the Bow tie badge and a straight 6 so I can pretend it's an Impala or somesuch  ( And I DID have a commercial tax Chev. Suburban 6.6TD a few years back so I'm happy enough to drive the Epica for the moment )

Haven't photos but 2 breakdowns on the southside in rush hour :o:o
Blue Dyane on the Stillorgan rd at 7.30am and white P1800 in Blackrock at 9am - the perils of old car ownership. Tho' I've never seen that regular N11 user , 63-ish Beetle, ever break down  Plenty of R107's around, popular classic ;)

Strange that the "E" has no door handles, maybe it's coming back from the spray shop. The bloody pic didn't upload. It's Capri's picture in post No.542

Return from spray shop in the rain alright, good test of the paintwork

Can you offer a better reason or does "rolleyes" seem sufficient. Just strikes me as odd that someone would drive around with no door handles.. The sooner this nct for over 30's comes in the better. I didn't mean that the car had been sprayed that morning, but then again you know what I meant..

Maybe it was a mile or so from sprayshop to owners place where he was going to refit all the trim . I used to do the same, mask and prep most of the car then drive to spray place down the road. Cheaper than taking up the spray places space (= €'s) , but there was ONE time when the paint hadn't dried properly and the rain did a job on it. Lesson learned

Epica doesn't have a straight 6 but it does have an interesting engine setup none the less for what some would consider a bland car.

And you were doin' so well :o Let's see, the last time I did a service I changed SIX plugs that were in a straight line, so ........
    http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/first-drives/chevrolet-epica-20

....For the price of a mid-spec Ford Focus you get a smooth 141bhp six-cylinder engine, a near-Mondeo-sized interior and as much spec as a top-end Mondy......To that, though, you can add a surprisingly refined 2.0-litre straight six and the knowledge that you’ve paid four grand less for the privilege.....:D

Apologies, I wasn't clear. Normally when I think of straight 6 I think of a longitudinal mounting of the engine. In the Epica it's the rarer straight 6 transverse mounting of the engine. Just like a straight 6 Austin Princess!

My bad for not being clearer the first time:o

As ever I find these details more interesting that how many knickers a scooby can pull off in less than 10 seconds.

Can I ask you to share some images of the epic Epica?

I was down in Ljubjana, Slovenia a few days ago and managed a small bit of car hunting in the short while I was there.

I have the lowering springs, but the shox are a bit of a shock pricewise (€200ea  ) - trying to source them from China (€40ea ). Plenty of zip in it if you use the 'tiptronic' , 'Porsche-designed' engine they say ( But so was the original Ibiza :o )

'The 'XK series' straight-six engines were designed by Porsche...' , not to mention Jaguar for the XK part :pac::pac:

Anyway, It's not what you've got, it's how you drive it  I'll beat both Porsches and Jaguars around the city in the daily 'Dublin GP'

not sure if it's a classic, but it seems to be some sort of frankenstein built on a new chassis (just guessing from the front suspension config). Only purpose as you can see is to attract some yankee tourists.
