I was in the new organic shop at the weekend, Noms. It's very nice. I like that they do a lot of refill options so you can buy as much as you need, not exact measures like most stores.

The range is good but the veg section might not be ideal for your weekly shop, but still a good selection. They also offer barista made coffee, and afaik it's the only store on that side of the crossroads that does. It's freshly ground, well made and nice coffee for under €3!

All in all, a really nice addition to the village. Overall I think the store is too small so hopefully if they build up a loyal customer base they will pounce on a new, larger store in due course.

I was out for a walk yesterday and counted numerous bags of rubbish dumped, 3 televisions, a wardrobe and numerous other items. This wasn't a once-off, it's a recurring issue. The roads around Shandon are not affected, it seems to mostly be the village and the City Centre side of St.Peter's Church.

I don't condone dumping but I can somewhat understand why some idiots people do it in remote areas. But I can't wrap my head around why people do it on neighborhood streets. They can't all be from afar, they must be living locally. The Greyhound service costs approx €3 per bag of rubbish. What is wrong that people are choosing to dump it on their own doorstep? It's an unfortunate blemish on the area but something that should be fixable...i hope.

It's an issue across the City. I'm in D8 and a lady was caught where I live, observed by a Guard dumping from her car, she lived nowhere near the area and drove in specifically to dump a bag out of her car. It probably cost her more in petrol than what a bin lift cost.

Also these unlicensed collectors are dumping in various areas and don't give a ****

The lanes in Shandon used to be a nightmare for this.

Re-municipalisation of waste collection is the only answer to the sorry state of the city.
I doubt the council would get anything other than bouquets if they took ownership of providing or sub-contracting out waste-collection, paid for from Property tax revenues they already collect. Rates if you will.
Removing the drive to dump will also allow the re-installation of all those public litter bins that were removed when privatisation came in, but which encourage small-scale littering.

Tried the new Rua Pizza place last week. Was pleasantly surprised, I thought it was delicious. So much so, I ordered it again over the weekend. That one was even nicer. Delighted.

I'd compare it to the likes of Base Pizza. It's on a par with them, maybe even some independent pizza places. It is leaps and bounds ahead of Dominos/Apache and, their next-door neighbours, Four Star.

Haven't tried it yet, I'm an independent pizza fan for decades, but I'll give it a shot.

Yes I'm also a staunch Independent Pizza fan. I don't think Rua's Pizzas are as good as theirs but it's very close, cheaper and they deliver so technically that makes it better in my belly :)

We badly need a butcher's and a fresh fish shop..

Mysteriously, the only type of fast food not represented in Phibs (and the one I crave the most) is a Mexican. Where is my phibsburrito?

    Butcher +1, Fish shop +1.

This delicious pizza has vegan cheese, wild rocket, cherry tomatoes, walnuts & chilli flakes topped with maple syrup

€10 only for the whole of January!

It's bizarre that all through the 80s and 90s 3 proper butchers plus a pork butcher and a fish shop all survived in Phibsboro and now we can't have one seem to make it !

There's a fish shop up at the 17 shops in Cabra. Not in the row of 17, but behind the AIB just across from Clarke's Bakery. I haven't been so can't vouch for it, but I think I'm going next weekend so I'll take pics.

I was back in Loretta's on Saturday night. Great buzz about the place, food still excellent. Thought it might have been quiet for January but I was glad we booked, full house. Great to have a nice place nearby.

I ate there over Christmas. They are going for a finer-dining experience, stopping short on being over-priced - but it is not cheap. I only had the burger and it was nice, and one of the cheapest things on the menu @ €15.

We were there on the Saturday before Christmas and it was at 30/40% capacity. Had a peep in at the bar. It looks nice but is quite small. There is also another section which is 100% for christenings/funerals/etc. I'd go back but probably to the bar.

Went to Botanic House for dinner last night, that's the third time we've been and the food has been really excellent each time, but it definitely could've been busier... They have live jazz from 3.30 to 5.30 on Sundays which is a nice touch.

Haven't tried Loretta's but looking forward to giving it a go. Also saw there's a planning notice for a new cafe beside the Greek place on Prospect Road - great to have so many new places to try!
