Can anyone please remember the range of values for the last parts in question fourteen (functions) please? :)

I'd have to draw the graph out again to check what they were. :/
Might do it later if I get a chance.

Why did they let y= -3.3333333?!
For the Ball Question I said that it would land
after 4 seconds because the pattern was exponential or could form a parabola and that at 2 seconds it was at the highest point of the parabola so it would take the same time to land:(
Also for the n^2+n-41 I said that the plus and minus would cancel each other out leaving just the 41^2 which is obviously a composite number as it can be divided by 41:D
Can someone show me how I should have answered the last 2 parts of the last q ie the ranges?

You just had to look at the graph and see for example for g(x) is greater than or equal to zero by determining the point where the graph crossed the x axis and and the the answer was x is equal to or greater than that number.
I said the same as you for the ball question and i seemed to be the only one who got it in my centre. so

If I'm thinking of the right question, I (and people I know) got around -1.5 to 2

Thanks! I hope thats a good thing that we did it the same way:) Another thing that threw me a bit was the perimeter question I think I got something like 2 square root of 10:(

Can someone please clarify wether or not you had to do the two graphs on the same graph for question 14 and would my formula works for question 9 For question 9

    I think I got a different equation for jack I got 10+ 7.6666666666666 = y
It still worked thought when I put in what x was
Do ya think they will accept different equations as long as they work?
    For Susan it was 0 + 6x = y
This also worked but I think these equations are different from everyone else's
Where x is the difference between sterling and euro - 10
i don't think i got the simultaneous right though

I said the ball was up in the air for 7.5 seconds, was this wrong? 😂

I got 7.4s, but it said approximately so hopefully we'll both be fine. :)

Is 7.666.. your x value for Jackie?
Also, it doesn't matter if you drew the functions on the same graph or not.

    am my equation was 10+7.666666666x=y
where x is the difference between euro and sterling - 10
    eg
    10 +7.666666666 X3 = 33
i got three by getting the difference and subtracting 10
it does work but its different from everyones else's answer

It's for question 9 not the functions. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭nokia211

which graph was f(x) and which was g(x)

it said on the same axes and scales so i put both of them as in fx the quadratic and gx the line of the same graph

Does it work for any values other than 33?

Don't fully understand what your saying but I think its wrong they were looking for so that you subbed I'm the sterling amount as x or what ever and it gave you the euro as you don't have the euro value. So you can't can have them putting in the difference between the two values.

yes it works for all the values

but why're you multiplying by 3?
    The difference is 13?

did it not ask write down a formula to respect what he would get in euro which is what i have done

yeah put as i said you take away 10

    So you're doing..33-20-10 x 7.66 + 10?

Yes but I'm assuming they what the formula to calculate this with out already haveing the amount in euro which it seems like yours does.

How does it work for when €56 and £40?

    56-40-10 x 7.66666 + 10...?

yes maybe but they didn't specify this
do ya think i would still get makes though
    :) As it does work

    6 x 7.666666666666 + 10
    the difference is 16 -10 = 6

    Why should complicated formulas? Mine was C = S + 23 for Jack and C = S + 24 for Sarah..
    --
C = Cost it would make in euros
S = Amount of sterling you want

    ???

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,226 ✭✭✭Liordi

    Ah, that's pretty neat.
I'd imagine you'd get marks for it, but I presume you didn't solve part (v)?

Well a question like it came up in our pre and I did it like you and I only got high partial and when I asked my teacher whos a JC corrector she said in the JC I'd get low partial for doing it the way I did.

i don't know i got two answers for x and y wasn't really sure what to do with them

Don't think you can solve part five with this, though.
Also, your formula doesn't hold through.

    S = 20
    C = 33
    33 =/= 20 + 23
