    ^This!

Long range lasers are awesome, absolutely no damage fall off at all. All other modification the damage output starts to fall off after 500m, so being able to hit with full power 6km away is nuts! On the cutter I'd nearly have the 4 mediums as long range turreted beams

True story: Last night I was in "Wyrd" heading for an engineer. Random guy in FDL messaged me to say nice ship! He joked about the turning, I joked back that it does turn, just takes a while to start going in the direction you turn towards. Anyway I then hit the glide transition to the planet surface, no more FDL. Come out of glide and boost towards landing pad, completely overshooting and smashing into ground... then get message from unidentified FDL "I saw that landing!" :)

You have a real mix and match of engineered laser's focused and efficent , now I havnt payed in a good few months and I only play PvP and I think that's what your build is but Ive always gone with long range.

Long range doesnt draw any extra power really but you can go out to nearly 6 KM with 100% (if I remember correctly) now in my corvette build and that is only a PvP build I have 2 huge multis and the rest are (and that's a lot ) are turreted long range beams. What this enables me to do is target them before they are in range, I fire my beams from 6km out and let them go to work. Thing is with turreted lasers and big ships is the smaller faster ships will try and get behind you and with turrets the arc of fire is amazing and you will almost inevitable always have fire on them.

Now with a cutter I would think, this is even more important and that thing is bus and does not turn quick at all.

I like your thinking on long range! I went turret & focused on the nacelle medium pulses as I wanted these weapons to be the ones that could always keep fire on smaller ships. "Focused" as this reduces damage drop off and also gives Armour piercing. In my very brief testing last night the turrets were able to finish off the odd eagle or at least do some good damage to the little bit bigger ships.

I'm going to experiment a bit and no doubt start unlocking some more engineering so I can go G5 efficient beams. But I was also thinking long range rail guns as well. But you've got me thinking about long range turret beams on all mediums now :) That might let me keep more pips in engines and weapons while I concentrate on maintaining correct range and turrets do their thing.

But I was also thinking long range rail guns as well.

Great on smaller ships, have them on my FDL. I'd imagine the weapon convergence on the cutter isn't all that tight so really can't see them being a great option. Plus the heat generated could also be an issue.

I'll keep concentrating on unlocking broo tarquin so!

So this week my wing, squad, gang whatever..... have 65% inf and forced the others into war.

Afaik if they stay at 65 they will own the system next weekend get to expand into another system, that seems to be the plan.

I killed 108 pirates from a rival faction this week for 7m........my repairs were probably more than that.

meh at least I am playing :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭Sesshoumaru

I delivered things... Lots of things and a lot of the time in 5t to 10t chunks. Last thing I delivered tonight was my last 10t of Fujin tea. I had to unlock Liz Ryder, Hera Tani & then Broo Tarquin this week. So at least I got to change some stuff around and modify my build a little. It was annoying not being able to use Broo Tarquin up until now. So I ditched the pulse laser on my nacelles for now, in favour of trying long range beams (thanks for the suggestion!), at least these two on my Cutters nacelles at G4 level with thermal vent.

    https://s.orbis.zone/miz

I just need to search for some Biotech Conductors and I'll bring the beam weapons on my wing nacelles to G5, maybe tomorrow or Saturday. Depends how hard it is to find those Biotech Conductors :) They do seem to work quite well with my maybe 30 to 40 minutes of practice in Haz Res near Haxel Port in LTT 15574. It's quite easy to keep those turrets on my nacelles on target almost constantly and they have great range, even at G4.

    Nope, still on Mobius.

Doubt I would ever play in open tbh, I prefer my PVP games to be balanced.

There's a lot of really good looking stuff in there. Good to see we're finally getting an Orrery system map

The night vision mode for me is huge as 99% of the time I have to land on a planet it's always on the dark side.

    Hurrah for me!

Definitely not worth watching if you wanted to learn anything about Thargoid killing :pac: I have spent the last few weeks engineering my Cutter. But tonight I dusted off the Anaconda, did some armour upgrades, reconfigured her and tried to solo a Cyclops again. It's not pretty to look at, looking at it now I can see I made lots of mistakes, should have been able to finish it a lot quicker. I was pressing wrong buttons at times and I look so slow when reviewing the video! But still, my first solo Cyclops kill on my first try tonight :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭Sesshoumaru

Second try and got it around 8 minutes now :)

I won't post another Interceptor kill, promise! Unless I can kill a Basilisk, preferably solo!

Whoever does the sound for this game deserves all the ****ing Oscars ever.

There is some savage stuff in this stream but around 42 minutes in they go into a conflict zone, just listen.......

    recap.

    https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/452363-Content-Recap-Beyond-Chapter-Four-Livestream-Background-Simulation-and-Scenarios

Please note this is part two of four livestreams, for more details click here.

    BGS (Background Simulation) Changes

The Background Simulation (BGS) is a representation of how the actions of all players, no matter on which platform or mode, impact the galaxy. The factions that inhabit these system battle for influence over the population and control of the starports, installations and outposts. Player actions can push these factions into various states; such as economy, security, health and influence. With concerted effort players can help grow a faction's economy, destroy its security status, or help win a war.

As part of Beyond - Chapter Four, we're making a few changes to the Background Simulation that will have a big effect on how you will manage and spread your faction's influence across the Milky Way.

    Multiple States

From Beyond - Chapter Four onwards, factions will no longer be limited to a single state. Instead a faction could be in multiple states per system.
For example, rather than being in 'War' across all of the systems the faction is present in, the faction will only be at war in the single system in which the war is taking place.
This new change means that the faction can also be in several different states at the same time. A faction could be in many different states, such as Bust and Civil Unrest.
The Background Simulation is woven into the fabric of the galaxy, and so this change will impact everything from USS spawning to mission spawning. The systems your faction is present in may very well change up!
The addition of multiple states means that managing an intergalactic empire will come with increased challenges. In order to make this more manageable we’ve added additional feedback to the game that should make interacting with the Background Simulation easier to understand.
Part of this feedback includes how Local News works. We've expanded the faction summary news article, so that each faction has their own individual article which informs players of the states currently active in that system.

    State Categories

We've broken a number of faction states into the following categories:

Economic status - reflects the wealth of a system.
Security status - reflects the safety of a system.
Conflict - based on the system influence and represents the control of the assets and population in a system.
Movement - based on influence and our new Happiness value these states determine the movement of a faction between systems.
Other - Anything not included in the above, and reserved for future states that we are not ready to talk about!

A faction can have one state from each of these categories active at a time in each of the systems it’s present in.

Please find a summary of most of the states that will be coming in the Beyond - Chapter Four update (this information will also be available in-game):

    Economy and Security

For Economy and Security states we’ve added two new player-facing elements:
Security Status - represented via a marker moving along a bar. As the marker enters certain sections of the bar, the faction moves into the related state.
Economic Status - also represented via a marker moving along a bar. As the marker enters certain sections of the bar, the faction moves into the related state.
Both can be found on your right-hand status panel and also in the Squadrons Allegiance page (which we will be talking about in the Squadrons livestream).
As Commanders perform various in-game actions and activities, such as trading or completing missions, they will push the marker along one of these Security and Economic bars.
Each area on the bar represents different states and when the marker reaches these areas, the faction will adopt that state.
The center of each bar is a 'no state' region which represents a neutral state.
As the marker on the Economic bar is pushed upwards, the faction can move into Boom and then Investment. The other end of the Economic bar consists of Bust and eventually... Famine.
The Security bar consists of Lockdown, Civil Unrest, and a new state called Civil Liberty on the positive end. Civil Liberty represents a period of safety and freedom for the faction's population.

    Conflict and Movement

Movement states are based on Influence and work in a very similar way to how they did previously.
For example, if a faction loses the majority of its influence, it can enter into a Retreat state.
Conflict states trigger in the same way but winning a conflict has changed. This is explained in greater detail below.

    Conflict changes

Wars, Civil Wars and Elections will now freeze the influence of both factions involved.
The conflict between the two factions will be resolved weekly, following a process of winning victories on a daily basis.
To claim a victory, players need to complete relevant missions handed out by their faction and take part in the newly revamped Conflict Zones.
You can find information on how your faction is doing during the war, and the assets it has on the line, in the status panel.
This information can also be found in the Squadrons Allegiance page.
At the end of a week, the side that has won the most days wins the war!

    Expansion

The new States have also influenced the way in which Expansion works.

Expansion is a faction-wide concept and takes the following into consideration:
The percentage of Influence of the faction per system.
The Happiness of the faction within that same system.
Happiness is a new concept and is based on the states that are active within that system.
For example: a faction that has Civil Unrest, War and Bust occurring is not going to be the happiest, while a faction experiencing Civil Liberty and Boom will be much happier.
To increase your faction's happiness, you need to defeat negative states and push your faction towards positive ones.
Large factions, with lots of influence across many happy systems will be more likely to gain the Expansion state.
A faction in Expansion after a certain amount of time will attempt to expand from the happiest system that faction is present in. Therefore, you will be better able to coordinate your expansion efforts to ensure which system you want to expand from.

It's worth noting that some of the gargantuan factions, led by a handful of people, will need to scale up their group in order to manage their existing holdings. With these changes, maintaining widespread factions will pose an added challenge, but we've introduced improved in-game BGS feedback to help coordinate your group's efforts.

    Other

There are chaotic and unpredictable states that can occur. These states, much like the real-world parallels, are out of your control. One of these states is Outbreak, a faction in outbreak will suffer negative economic and security effects, as well as many of the faction's population becoming unhappy.
Further information on all the factions' active states can be found in the right-hand panel.

    Megaship and Installation Population

For Beyond - Chapter Four, we've introduced a vast number of new Megaships and Installations.

Some of these Megaships will have set routes (moving on the weekly tick) and when in a new system, will be under the protection of the controlling faction.
If a Megaship jumps into your faction's system, you should look after it because if it is attacked, your faction will feel negative Background Simulation effects.
Installations have also been added. These are static assets that once assigned to a faction can be fought over during conflict states.

    Scenarios

Scenarios are new and enhanced versions of the Unidentified Signal Sources (USS) and fixed events that you may already have encountered. They are random events that can occur across the galaxy, providing you with additional opportunities to blaze your own trail the way you want to.

Each Scenario is fully voice-acted, by a range of different actors.
They feature bespoke UI, providing you information on what you need to do to engage with a Scenario and the rewards you will receive for doing so.
There are specific Background Simulation (BGS) rewards for successfully completing a Scenario; such as increasing the security status of the faction involved.
Some of the new and enhanced Scenarios include:
    Assisting distressed or stranded pilots.
Engaging with new, fluctuating objectives in the new and improved Conflict Zones.
Attacking or defending Megaships and Installations.
Providing aid and assistance to damaged Megaships.
    ...and more!

Decided to get back into this as this new expansion looks very interesting and a proper improvement. I hung up my spacesuit back in the start of the year as you all know you do get burnt out and have to give it a rest.

It also helps I just bought a 75inch 4K HDR TV and Elite looks amazing on this:D

    My fleet includes
    • Fully G5 engineered Corvette which now will be used solely for PvE in HZ, CZ etc FD look like they are making this more interesting so this will be its only task. My most favorite ship by far, melt machine...
    • Fully G5 engineered FDL which will be brought out for maybe the odd quick assassination mission, love this bus.
    • Utility Conda with 60Ly jump range for cargo passengers etc
    • My trusty old AspX with 50ly range for getting materials unlocking stuff, general bubble hopper .
    • I have a Cutter also but its just parked up used it for mining, just because of the huge storage capacity you can stay out for ever with this. With the new mining mechanic this might become more useful. Only thing its a pure elephant in and around the asteroids.
    • I have a Clipper for some reason, I think I was bored and saw some lads getting boost speeds up to 800m/s and I though it would be cool but have done nothing with it.
Never went anyway near the Thargoids or Guardians want interested but I think I will start on that now. Number one job is to get the Guardian FSD booster and then start kitting out a Goid machine. I hear that the Krait is pretty good at this so this is my gind for the next few weeks. Get one of these fully kitted out for Goid hunting. Secondary objective of this is to finish off getting my combat rank up to Elite. I hear you 3 or 4 times the points of an elite kill when you kill just a scout so this seems like a good way of doing this.

Anyone on here ever want to meet up for some fun Haz Res or maybe a massacre mission or two? or some of the new scenarios when they come out? Or even some friendly (non lethal) PVP jousting ? :)

Second question or request for advise is - What GPU do people in this thread use? and does anyone have any large curved monitor recommendation for Elite? Just to explain a little. I am thinking of upgrading from my 1060 6G to a Vega 56 or Vega 64 and getting a new freesync curved monitor. Elite is at its most immersive when I'm wearing my Rift. But I don't necessarily want to use the Rift for everything I do in Elite. So when not using the Rift I'd like more immersive experience a large curved monitor could bring (compared to a smaller flat screen).

Expansion looks very promising so far alright. Seems to be bringing a lot of the different types of game play together.

Dreamers and I have gone bug hunting a few times. Last time we killed a cyclops in ~4 seconds! I've been away from the game a lot lately but have recently started playing again a lot more, just can't seem to settle on what I want to actually do in game! So currently I'm gathering resources for a Vulture build. Once it's finished I'll be up to 10 fully engineered ships!

I have an EVGA 1060 6Gb card and the game runs butter smooth @1080p60 and no doubt it would help with framerate on the Rift. Not sure about curved screens so maybe someone else will be better but my BenQ 27" flat monitor is grand.

That bug killed me but FD gave me back my money.

They said it was lag caused by one of our connections.

I will be on later if anyone wants to bug hunt or murder ****

That was sound of them, completely forgot to ask you about that! Although to be fair, their customer support is awesome. Changed my commander name no problem when I found out it had gotten messed up somehow and no one could find me in the player search.

I wonder if it is my connection after all. Although I'm with Virgin and afaik all the correct ports for online gaming are open by default with them on their new hub thingy.

    Should be on later myself

Well in the end I kind of half took your advice and had long range turret beams on the nacelles.

    https://s.orbis.zone/qzx

I consider this build now complete and is a nice mix of shield and hull dealing damage for any kind of PVE - I think :) For PVP I'm not sure how good it is.

I have a friend in game who is a lot more PVP experienced than me and we were just messing around last night. I have an Imperial Courier that I wanted to test against a bigger ship and of course being a complete newbie at PVP I wasn't very good against his Corvette or then later against his Chieftain. But it was fun, even if I did lose a few million in rebuys on the Courier :)

I then said lets go big, so my Cutter against his Corvette. But he gave me the handicap and took out his Chieftain at first. It was a fun experiment for the two of us. We had two jousts in this config and what I really liked was the speed of the cutter combined with the long range beams meant I was enjoying FA off going backwards, sideways and every which way as my turret beams constantly kept some damage on him. It was easy to maintain the engagement distance I wanted. When I let him get closer so I could use the shorter range weapons I was also able to go full boost and ram his Chieftain a few times. It was a lot of fun.

Of course when he actually brought out his Corvette, I could maintain the distance, but two medium long range beam turrets were like fly swatters against an elephant. I did also learn though ramming is a good way to gauge your opponents shield strength! He had engineered prismatic shield tank, versus my bi-weave. When I got in close he had plasma accelerators and rails.

So anyway besides saying I think PVP is a lot of fun. I wanted to say thanks for recommending long range. I'm going to change to mostly/all long range weapons now over the next while as I come up with a new build. If you had any thoughts on what long range weapons I could switch in, I'd love to hear them?

Regarding PvP be very very careful  you think you might have a kick ass Cutter but you come up against a seasoned PvP'r you will get destroyed in a matter of seconds. Firstly you dodnt really want to be doing it in a ship that cost you nearly a billion credits, because you will be looking at that rebuy screen A LOT.

Yeah have a blast with your friends when you know what load out he has and he mightn't go for the coup-de-grace. But these PvP lads have some black magic stuff going on eg reverb cascade rockets, double shot frag cannons etc etc. MY advice if you get interdicted and think you might have a go DONT!!

They will drop your shields in seconds and disable you FSD just as quick, practice your high waking get my ass outa here procedure. If you do want to some PvP do it a medium ship that wont sting when you look at that rebuy screen. Most of these guys are flying in FDL, FAS etc

Finally regarding your load out in my Vette I have all long range turreted beams and my two huge are overcharged gimballed mulit-cannons with corrosive shells in one and the other thermal shock in the other. Once their shields are gone they dont have time to get them back up again. The Cutter has only one huge so deffo that should be a overcharged multi-cannon with either corrosive shells or thermal shock. See how you get on with that but you might want to swap out one of the other beams to another MC.

By the way if you haven't heard the Fuel Rats home base Fuelum (yes thats right) is in civil war and they are looking for pilots to rock up and help. Go to a CZ and cash in combat bonds. Pick your side to the Fuel Rat faction. The place is full with other commanders and the odd ganker so be careful as usual. I think there might be only a few more hours in it.
