TV3 won't put RWC on 3e alone, it needs it to help improve TV3's audience come September. If TV3 do it right they can be guarantee to have for the first time in their history one or two (if Ireland makes it to the semi-finals) shows in the top 10 most watched programmes, plus it will double its audience share and see TV3 have an average of at least 10% for the year meaning it will be the 2nd most watch TV channel in 2015.

To shift that PR to 3e is where you point out TV3 have a lack of imagination.
But 3e is part of TV3 .. It's like RTÉ 2 to RTÉ One - the fact that 3e is actually more prominent then say UTVI on UPC, Sky, eVision and Saorview means it doesn't make a blind but of difference whether it's on TV3 or 3e once people are watching the "TV3 Group" .. A one stop shop of 3e Rugby would enhance TV3's brand.

I know that you know that, TV3 wants good PR at the end of the year this is how the TV3 end of year PR will read

TV3 Group keeps audience at 12%, TV3 remains 2nd most watched TV Channel

TV3 Group have consoldiated their audience by investing in home grown programming. This is in a highly competitive market which has seen RTÉ seen drops in audience, sees major multinational companies with no Public service remit gain major foot holds in the Irish market, along with the continue use of public funds by Public Service Broadcasts. TV3 has kept its audience and continues to be the 2nd most watch TV channel in the state.

TV3 in 2015 invested in quality home produced content with over 50% of its content produced in Ireland. Ireland AM and daytime on TV3 remained strong through out the year, while the introduction of Red Rock has seen continued increases in its audience share, with 300,000 viewers tuning in for its Christmas special.

TV3's sister channel remained stable with 2.5% of the audience, giving TV3 a total audience of 12.5% in 2015 showing The TV3 Group continues to be the choice for Irish audiences. blah blah blah blah.

How they get good PR is doing something different from ITV and traditionally RTÉ .. A dedicated rugby channel for the duration of the tournament which would bring sports broadcasting forward in Ireland they could boast how Irish, English, French, Welsh, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand matches brought them some of the biggest FTA viewerships figures of the year while also staying loyal to normal/non sports viewers with a combo TV3/3e schedule on TV3.

Not that new an Idea RTÉ 2 becomes the Olympic Network since 1992, though the name isn't used

The Olympics on RTÉ does very well .. If a 3e rugby channel did that TV3 would be laughing!

What do they show on TV3? You have to remember that RTÉ ONE has a normal share of 20%, TV3 now has just 7%, this would drop if 3e were to show the RWC exclusively while 3e would seem a major increase up to 15% during the tournament.

Unless TV3 do something worthwhile in prime time the RWC means very little in the long term.

BTW I amn't disagreeing with you, but TV3 just don't think outside the box and they don't take many risks. Red Rock being the only real risk to its schedule.

Their inability to take risks (although my idea isn't a risk) will ultimately lead to their despise if UTV get their act together.

Ha I know fully well TV3 won't do it because they have the broadcasting imagination of a turnip ...but that's the reason they find themselves in the state they are - they never think outside the box.

They are being realistic. TV3 commands a higher audience hence more advertising revenue so the big games will be there. It is similar to when the BBC switches Andy Murray matches from BBC 2 to BBC 1 at a whim. More people will watch the main channel.

We do not have the population for a rugby only channel as rugby is only "massive" here when it is an Irish team playing. Most couldn't give a toss about the sport outside of that.

The advertising revenue will follow the games - they could even get a main sponsor for each of the main rugby nations .. You see it's all about trying new things or else everyone will just turn ITV or UTVNI on.

There is one very large pool of viewers that wont be switching to UTV for the Rugby World Cup and that is UPC customers. TV3 know that very well and they need to deliver on their HD plan. Yes a number of Sky customers know how to watch ITV through Other Channels but I think the number that will be actively doing this for rugby matches isn't going to be that high as most people will be happy just to see the game even if it is on TV3.

Regardless of what channel sport is on it gets a high audience. RTÉ 2, TG4 and 3e proves this. If TV3 wanted it could move all sport to 3e and create their version of RTÉ2.

And we're just point out that TV3 won't do that.

    RWC on TV3
Games involving Ireland, France, England, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia are guaranteed, with Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.

    RWC on 3e
All other games including Scotland V Italy if it happens. They might put on any clashing games if they exist. I'd say they'll be exclusive on 3player
    Nightly round up.

    RWC on 3player
All games plus any clashing games if they exist. Most likely clashing games exclusive on 3player.

Which would make the moving of all games to 3e a pointless exercise.

They've moved the second leg match between Besiktas and Liverpool from 3e to TV3 on Thursday week. Mainly due to the fact the match kicks off at 6pm, and then it runs into Red Rock at 8:30. They've kept the first leg on 3e.

However, their scheduling of Saturday Night Takeaway has a lot to be desired. So they've showed 2014 episodes the last 7 weeks, and the new series will begin on UTV Ireland on Saturday night. But TV3 will now show 2013 episodes of the show at the same time as UTVi. Can't quite understand the logic in that.

You see one of the main reasons I would move all the matches to one channel is the fast that TV3 won't launch two HD channels - we might be lucky to see one one sky and UPC. What I think they should do is launch a 3e Rugby HD channel for the duration of the tournament and after have the HD channel like the old BBC HD where they could broadcast native HD programmes from the TV3/3e schedule.

They will lose viewers if matches are not in HD - ITV1 & ITV4 HD are available on sky for those with a HD pack via other channels. I don't understand why TV3 would give viewers the chance to ask the question about HD in 2015.

Classic spoiler attempt, they are hopeful that some viewers wont notice that TV3 is showing a repeat.

It could of course end up being a massive own goal and dent TV3 credibility but its a calculated risk.

TV3 HD on UPC is probable but unlikely on Sky or Saorview.

If its not on sky then they will get a desperate bollocking ... it being so simple to add ITV and ITV4 to other channels... might totally backfire on them.

TV3 will have to pay the transponder space...so very low possibility of TV3 on HD.

Without TV3 in HD it will be comparable to watching the rugby world cup in black and white compared to the HD picture ITV will be using.

Was LLL move to 7pm worth it?

I didn't see much of a difference and the new set seems to have much of the old set in it?

Tried watching it last night. Picture quality was like a bad internet video. Turned it off and watched rte1 in HD instead...

That article is relying on an average including the first few high viewership episodes, when the cold harsh reality is that its damn close to going under 100k.

102 and 101 in last weeks 15+ figures, beaten resoundingly by "On Benefits And Proud".

Medialive's figures are somewhat odd. In this weeks TV Now, Red Rock had 32,000 more viewers than what is stated in that weeks medialive ratings. Unknown whether both take in time-shifted viewing as well.

They still need bigger programming to surround it. The Holidays Show's 8th showing of the 3rd series won't help it on Wednesday.

Saturday Night Takeaway tonight, on Sky's Info Box as "New Series" on TV3.

Tape it and sit down to watch after a while, only to find their "New" series is actually the last series
