A gigantic "FCUK YOU!" from Axl to all the naysayers

This gig is possibly his best vocal performance since the early 90's with GNR.

Great to see Riff Raff and RnR Damnation back in the set at long last. Those are two stone cold classics. Worst song of the night, by a mile IMO, was RnR Thunder which is a dull song no matter who's singing it. Play Ball got dropped because Brian was having weird issues nailing the pitch, which Axl wouldn't, and it's got much more of a 'hit' quality to it. Well, it was one of the two lead singles from RoB.

Yeah, good to see the band so tight after the layoff. Angus' energy never ceases to amaze me.

The band always sounds great, I was talking about Axl. You know the guy people were bitching and moaning about saying he was washed up etc

Humble Pie for a lot of AC/DC fans.

The the band sound pretty good too :P
It's also a humble pie that many are happy to eat. Saying that, it's only one gig.

I think he sounds great. I wouldn't be giving as massive a praise as everyone else seems to be, but I do think he sounds excellent.

I've been listening to the above on an old OLD laptop, and they still sound good.

    EDIT:

Realised it still sounded like I was rubbishing Axl, - not intended :)

I'm one of the AC/DC fans that was looking forward to Axl singing so am glad it went off well. And I do think the majority of fans were willing to give him a fair chance. It's just unfortunate that minorities against something always seem to make the most noise.

And don't get me wrong, he was very good but you'd swear he cured cancer the way some people are drooling over his performance.

Let's hope he keeps it up but deep down, I know we'd all prefer To have Brian back, no matter how well Axl continues to perform.

You left out 2006/07 Axl :P, but I digress, from what I've seen of the videos on YouTube so far, he seems like the right choice to fill in... Though the other question is, will he be able to keep his vocals sounding like they are now, when he eventually gets the cast off and is running about on stage

What's the timeframe for the cast anyway? Will he be up and about at any stage during this run of dates?

Rose tweeted a video of foot and ankle specialist Dr. Rachel Triche today, who explains that the GN’R vocalist underwent surgery for a broken bone in his foot. “Right now he’s in a cast, and we’re limiting how much weight he’s putting on it,” she says. “So he’s having his set designed for the stage so he can perform for everyone still.” Rose will be in a cast for approximately four weeks.

I saw that Axl. Not a patch on his current form. Not even close

This would be my concern too. He's known for becoming breathless on stage quite quickly due to all his running around and it affects his vocal delivery a lot. He even said himself recently that sitting down allows him to just concentrate on vocals and he finds it easier to sing, even if he feels like a moron just sitting there. I've a feeling he'll restrict his running around when he gets back to full fitness, as he won't want to impede on Angus' showmanship as well as keep his own vocal level high.

Yeah I'm the same. No problem with his voice, kinda fits. Its just seems weird not entirely sure why.

Rose did a good job, but it's not AC/DC to me, hope he remains on his best behaviour and there's no more drama, there's been enough of that the last two years.

Angus said they could have been sued if they cancelled all the gigs so I can understand why they got in a replacement, if there is absolutely no way Brian can come back I hope they retire the name, I'd love it if Brian could come back and Rudd also and they go out that way, unlikely as it is.

Their need to have an album out before they tour could rule out Brian coming back anyway, Brian will be 69 in a few months if it takes them 3 years to release another album, he might not be able for a big tour even if his hearing is Ok.

I don't know why people are worried about him possibly acting the diva while with AC/DC. That's never going to happen.

According to the interviews released before the Lisbon gig, he went to them and suggested himself as singer and they agreed. It's not like they went begging to have him. There's no way they'd put up with any bull**** and to be fair to Axl, I think he feels honoured to be singing with them and wouldn't do anything to ruin the experience.

I suppose he can't go anywhere and he obviously respects Angus so that would make it more unlikely, but given his behaviour in the past, it's hard to ignore the potential for chaos, there only eleven nights to go, I think it'll go off with off without drama, but if there is some incident I wouldn't be one bit surprised.

It is as if AC/DC fans are wishing for drama at this stage.

I never thought I'd see the day where AC/DC fans sound like a bunch of moaning geriatrics.

I love AC/DC but christ almighty they have one whiny fanbase.

As I've said before, it's just the vocal minority. You shouldn't get too invested in it.

The fact is that Axl has engaged in drama in the past. He's hasn't lately (in years, in fact) and that's great, but the stuff with Phil Rudd has reminded us that it's possible to remain on the straight and narrow for a long time and then, for whatever reason, go a bit off the rails again. I don't know if it's something that's been totally erased from Axl's personality or something that simply remains dormant, but hopefully we don't find out.

Its not like AC DC fans have rioted. They haven't even thrown stuff at the band. Would have thought G'n'R fans are the more sensitive of the two.

I'm not Anti-Axl or anything, his voice is suited to AC/DC, it's just hard to ignore his past history, if Brian Johnson had acted similarly in the past I'd feel the same, as I said he probably has too much respect for Angus and he probably is more mature and would let small things that used to bother him go.

What happened his leg......I thought they wheeled him out in a chair , in sympathy with Brian!!:p

He broke his metatarsal at the troubadour gig while stepping back down of a monitor April 1st no joke.

Listening to the available Axl Rose vocals, he's doing a fine job, and in many ways his voice is suited to some of the Bon material that didn't sit well with Brian. And it's also clear that Angus still has a viable band around him, and that he should keep going as long as he enjoys it.

But in the end, Axl can only be a placeholder. I don't think he can become an essential member of AC/DC. It just feels too much like a supergroup. If they're going to record and tour again, I think they need to find a lower key singer who'll fit the bill better, and maybe take them in a slightly different direction, and give them renewed energy. It's a big ask, and maybe too much like starting over. But the alternative is really just increasing self-parody.

If there's no way Brian can return I hope the name is retired, I can tolerate them continuing to use the name with Chris & Stevie cos they've history with the band, replace Brian with a singer and it isn't AC/DC anymore no matter how good the singer is, Rose has done a good job so far in fairness to him but I can't see him do it on a permanent basis.

It's depressing how the arse has fallen out of the band the last two years :(

These things happen to people in their late 60s / early 70s unfortunately..

By rock and roll standards they've done well to last this long, both as a band and individuals.

They may very well have to put an end to it after this tour, or maybe they might just have to pit an end to touring, which isn't the end of the world.

If Bryan can put a shift in on the studio, I don't see why they can't push out another album or 2 for their fans.

They're already doing their fans proud getting through the remaineder of the tour, and especially giving them the option to return tickets if they're unhappy. Personally I'd love to see Axl with them live, people can say they seen AC/DC with Brian for the last 30yrs, not many will be able to say they seen AXL front them.

It's weird seeing Axl sit down for the whole show. He will prob be back on his feet by the US Tour

There's a post on the Chris Slade Timeline FB (ran by Chris himself, apparently) that states Angus has no intention of retiring. If that is indeed from Chris, who you'd think ought to know, being in close proximity, it certainly makes you wonder about what the future holds for the band.

News out of the Rudd camp is that he seems to be a lot better. A recent interview with him talks about how he's 'past all the crazy stuff' and has been working with a therapist to get through some of his issues these last few months or so. He's no longer talking about how he's got a rightful place in AC/DC or anything like that but is open enough to the idea of coming back, if Angus will have him.
