Lots and lots of Toyota performance engines are Yamaha/beams worked

Eg: On the 4age 20v - Yamaha was responsible for the head (5 valves per cylinder), the fuel injected throttle body setup, the plenum and intake design!

Nice car btw fanboi!! Well may you wear

There doesn't seem to be a forum as good as boards over here!

    Pistonheads is fairly good imo

my car also had the same technology back in 1997, I think it stands for Variable valve timing intelligence or something. Mine was also a beams engine.
Does it do the aggressive cam changeover thing at high revs? What does it redline at?
Vvtli adjusts exhaust cam lift, duration and intake valves, a bit like mivec or DOHC VTEC.
Normal vvti like on my mrs's yaris or a celica 140 just does intake, curious to what yours is.

Redline is 7000rpm. My cam changeover is very smooth and not aggressive. The VVTI has to work with the turbo but is much smoother than my Vtec civic.

I don't think its the same idea as the celica too.
Doesn't need to be, being turbocharged

So here it is, it's a 190bhp model with the full spec, 6 speed, climate control, sunroof, leather, 6 speaker Sony system, aluminium pedals etc. just passed the test last week and it has a bit of tax.

Lovely colour, looks in great condition. Keep her in the best of oil and she should keep you very happy.

    Congrats! Great car! :D
i'll probably change the wheels in time, [...]
    Oh, yeah. Definately.

Out of curiosity - are you gonna improve power output somehow or stay as is?
    Nice!

I always thought that the 140 bhp was VVT-i and the 190 bhp was VVTL-i ???

That's correct, and so it says on the tin. :)

thanks :) i'l be leaving it alone for sure. going to change the engine and gearbox oil later on today and that's about it.

the wheels are 18" at the moment with 4 brand new "hi-fly" tyres, so the road noise is something out of this world, as is the lack of grip :o! but they'l do for a month or two until i know where i really stand with the car.

i can never relax through the first few weeks of ownership, until i can trust the car.

i have noticed i have the dreaded celica mystery noise  didn't hear it on the test drive so i'm pretty pissed at myself. the whole of the internet seems to not have a clue what it is, the only conclusion seems to be that most celicas do it and none have broken down from it :pac: kind of like a mild rattling noise while engine braking high in the rev range.

:pac: I know that feeling! That first long drive looking at temp gauge and oil light all the time juuuust in case. You don't even know if the radio works for more than 2mins because you have it turned off listening for every single new noise...

Celica trivia - the bonnet scoop exists purely to stop the passengers feet from getting too hot from heat transfer from engine bay... AFAIK...

    Here we go, new wheels!

I have grown a serious liking for the colour over the last 24 hours!
I| don't think the gold will work now that I seen it like this!

It needs a few little spacers and more low on the front :)

Never seen this thread, but found it the other day.

Here is my '04 Vectra. Done a lot of work (suspension, bushes, control arms, tyres, etc) on it the last 2 weeks so said i'd stick up a few pics of her. Badly needs a polish, but with the weather the last few weeks, it seems impossible & pointless.
