Depends on how dirty the car is to begin with in fairness, I've heard of people with dust on their car getting away with using it and nothing else.
That's proper crud on your car so very hard for it to do anything.

What seal if any have you under it, if that dirt is direct to the paint then it will be really welded on there!

    Crud? Seriously... ahaha :D

    You big American!

you'd need to have the car very clean and clayed and polished and sealed to get a near touchless wash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

In Ireland, the closest you'll come to a touch-less wash is if the car is protected with a nano sealant. If it is nano protected and hasnt been let get totally filthy, it will come up 90-95% clean with a snowfoam and rinse down. Even then, if the car is as dirty as the car pictured, it will need a wash.

what nano sealant do you recommend??

You' be looking at the likes of CarPro CQuartz, Gtechniq, Gyeon, etc

These coatings take quite a bit of surface preparation. For maximum performance the surface needs to be fully decontaminated, de-tar, de-iron and the a wipedown prep application.
Given that these coatings are very durable too, up to 2 years, you have to make sure you paintwork is in a condition that you are happy with. Otherwise you will have to machine polish the coating off to resolve it. So a machine polish is probably worth considering too.

There is a huge difference in how to apply and in performance over the likes of Color Magic.

That said, there are some very good spray sealants that will give you much better protection, and thus better results when snowfoaming and rinsing, which aren't as durable, but much less fussy in terms of preparation and application.

Curran, would I be right in guessing you're closed up til tuesday? (I'll be in Dublin tomorrow, but I presume the bank holiday means you'll be closed.. although as I type this, I'm starting to get the feeling you don't open on Mondays anyway?! :o )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

    No, not open tomorrow.
But I might have to pop out tomorrow for a bit and if you want to PM me your number, if I'm out there I can text ye.

and what would those be ??

For instance in the CarPro range; Reload which is a spray on, buff in until clear. HydrO2 which is a spray on, power wash off, dry the car. HydrO2foam which can be used in a bucket as a shampoo, wash the car, dry it and it's protected, or as a through the lance, wash the car, apply it via the lance, rinse it, dry it.

There are similar products in the Gtechniq and Gyeon ranges but I'm not familiar with their names. Another that seems to be getting good reviews is KKD PurityX.

You might have been using took heavy a mixture. If its not watery enough, the foam dwells in the shut lines, etc and dries out into that flaky texture.
Or you need to spend a little more time rinsing the water on the shut lines, if you want to keep the thicker foam! ;)

Right lads, I want to give a glaze a go.

I have chosen Chemical Guys Blacklight as I have done a bit of reading appears to be very good.

Now when it comes to waxes I have used Collinite 845 up until this point.
Knowing that this likes to be put down on bare paint I doubt it will like the glaze or last as long.

Can ye pro's recommend me a wax that will happily work alongside Blacklight?

I would probably go for 50. Cal's Cover Up Glaze over the Blacklight for your car myself, followed by their Pentawax as they're all made to be used together :)

If going Chemical Guys route I'd go for Blacklight and Pete's 53, would be a great combo!

No no I am looking for the best results I guess, I was looking at that but I guess I was thinking the chem guys stuff gotta be better at nearly twice the price!

Right so go the .50 route so :)

It's all preference really, I like both Chemical Guys and 50. Cal ranges, both do some really good products, Blacklight I look at as more for Black/Grey cars rather than the likes of yours!

Cool man well I'll pull the trigger here so and we'll see when I get a free day somewhere to give these a bash :)

The Chemical Guys Combo is a very good option and was a far more attractive option, until CG's put up their prices recently...Pete's 53, Blacklight, JetSeal109, Whitelight, Glossworkz Glaze, all took a massive jump, and too much in my opinion, but who am I to argue with the manufacturer! ;)

Got some Menzerna 300 from D&D for round II with the heavily swirled passat. Picked up one of their Fluffasaurus microfibres too and its very nice.
