Congrats! Did the weights feel heavy? I'm planning to go back this week too but I did nothing the last four months, so it's gonna be interesting!

COVID-19 has increased gravity. Scienticians are stumped but it is the case.

Please tell me this isn't jiu jitsu snobbery?

Or worse again, JJ hipstery. "I did jiu jitsu when it was traditional"

Nic just asked if it was Brazilian or "actual"
I didn't know this was a whole thing!!

If I recall correctly, BJJ is a pure grappling derivation of Judo. Judo is the throws and grappling of Japanese JJ, and Japanese JJ is just a fighting system combining everything, including strikes. Karate is like the striking derivation of JJJ.

Brazilian Judo would probably be a better name. But that kind of thing could start wars.

There are so many cool martial arts.

I've wanted to do Pencak Silat since I watched The Raid.

Taekwondo is pretty much 'the art of kicking and punching' in Korean. Doesn't make it sound all that fancy :(

No snobbery. From my experience I’ve known a few guys who did both. Japanese jj now days is regarded as softer and more drill oriented. Bjj is more effective when it comes to grappling

How is your strength levels comparing to before lockdown? I'm still on linear progression, which is awesome, after 6 weeks in the gym but sure, that'll stop soon. I'm working on regaining my previous strength in 3 lifts: DL, BP and OHP.

    No squat?

  • Posts: 81,309 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Alison Scrawny Yearbook

god it's been a month since i updated this.
been lifting but not logging. still on light squats working on heels. deadlifts trying to get form back a bit as well. all rebuilding

don't know 100% how my strength is but 110kg deadlift is still grand. belt is definitely tighter :( going to work on that as i refuse to add a notch :pac:
usually after a gap in training endurance is down but strength same, now it's both.

I hit the wall after 8 weeks of linear [almost] progression. It was fun. My endurance is up because I took up cycling during lockdown but strength went although body weight remained the same which = more body fat

sorry for hijacking your thread, I won't do that again. Great DL numbers, btw!

  • Posts: 81,309 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Alison Scrawny Yearbook

I'll try logging more consistently again

    Squat
    Plan: 57.5 3x5
Reality: 50kg 4x5 with first 2 sets tempo pause. It felt heavy at the start but I didn't warm up properly I guess. Lighter towards the end

    Bench 37.5kg 3 x 4/fail = 9,9,8,7

    Soooo weak

Spinning after. Lots of spinning. Lockdown weight to fight

    Gym 17 09 day 2

    Deadlifts 100kg 4x2

    Tempo Bench @310
    3x5 @ 6 rpe
    37.5 kg xxx

    Leg press in women's room
    130kg 3x10 xxx
They definitely put the easy springy one in there

    Spinning (no steam)

I know you do The Trip - have you ever tried Sprint? V short but.... Jaysus

  • Posts: 81,309 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Alison Scrawny Yearbook

I haven't actually. Is it all speed? I like how trip is a mix of speed and heavy resistance. I definitely need work on the speed bits

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,376 ✭✭✭caviardreams

No some tracks are climbs, power climbs etc. or combos, but the rests are teeny tiny, even between tracks (like 20 seconds). I tell myself "sure it's a quick warm up track and only 4 songs - it'll be grand":eek::eek:

The visuals makes the trip look very cool though - if only I had a big enough TV :D

    Squat
    60kg (or maybe 55 I don't know about that bar) 5x4
Getting back into it. Need to stop talking about ankle stretches and do them again
Bench 35kg (now that did feel heavy enough) 5x7

    Leg Extension 40kg 3x8

Treadmill intervals 15 mins only bc lazy/bored
