    Today

    4.85miles 45mins(9.16min/mile)

First run since Sundays race, not ideal i know but had zero window Monday or Tuesday due to wifes working hours. My legs were in bits Monday, shows i emptied the tank during the race, well thats my excuse. My right hip was particularly sore but some aggressive foam rolling sorted that out.

Legs were ok this morning at 5.15am when i done this(only chance i had to get out today) no big aches or pains thankfully but still kept the pace at recovery level. Had been toying with the possible idea of doing DCM this year but that may not be such a good idea. All the cool people are not running it after all!!!

Please feel free to ignore this tang, but IMO I think doing DCM this year would be a bad idea. You're in a good place at the moment and you're getting stronger, however a relentless marathon plan could be a step too far. You are still a bit away from your PB's for the shorter distances and I think you should try for the next year to get back to that level and then tackle the marathon next year if you want to. You could seriously smash your 5/10k PB's with a years smart training. Just my 2 cents!

Would agree with pconn there tang. Your going well..why risk it?

Ye are both right lads, i have no business even thinking about DCM this year. I know myself from previous experience when i try upping mileage in a marathon plan i end up getting injured for some reason. Its not cause i try increasing mileage to quick, just dont think my body is up to training for a marathon if i'm honest.

Theres no way my knee could take the training involved to prepare for Dublin anyway, idea is well and truly dispelled from my head.

    Today

    7.65miles 62mins 25secs(8.10min/miles)

Nice easy run this evening, legs took a few miles to wake up but once they did i bounced along doing this. Still quiet humid this evening(for me) but nothing compared to last week. Will just keep the runs easy for remainder of the week.

    WTD-12.50miles
    MTD-118.27miles
    YTD-506.37miles

    July Summary:

    1. 2 x races(Kinnegad 5k-19.47 and Mullingar 10-72min 38sec) and times i set myself achieved.
    2. 118.27miles of training, not as much as i would have liked but i missed a full week of running due to illness.
    3. Weekly mileage increased up towards the 40 mile mark, what i wanted.

Good months running all told and more progress i feel in the right direction. Hopefully August will bring something similar.

    August Objectives:

    1. 2 x races planned, Athboy 5k where goal will be to break 19.30 and Clonmel Half Marathon where i'd like to think i could run 1.36-1.37.
    2. Keep mileage at or around 40-45 miles for the week.
    3. Find suitable alternative race to Athlone Half if i cannot run it.

    Friday

    7.50miles 62min 09sec(8.17min/mile)

Another easy run, nothing at all to report from it that i can remember.

    Today

    16miles 2hr 17min 51sec(8.37min/mile)

As comfortable a 16 mile run i have ever done. It lashed down the whole way round, but ran two different loops around where i live so was able to duck in for quick clothes change after first loop. Legs felt good and strong and breathing was solid, i felt strong the whole way through. Real boost to the confidence this.

    Today

    3.20miles 29min 39sec(9.16min/mile)

Recovery run after Sundays LSR, legs were surprisingly spritely and had little stiffness, was expecting to be in bits if i'm honest. If i want to get a long run in this week have zero option but to do it tomorrow.

Might do 16 again, will play it by how i'm feeling after one loop in the morning. No big deal if i dont get 16 done either way, just enjoyed Sundays run so much. Fridays race is more important than length of my long run.

    Today

    17.01miles 2hr 27min 35sec(8.41min/mile)

Out at 7am to get this done, may aswell come clean that i've agreed to do few long runs with a neighbour who is training for DCM. Hes a tri-head who is targeting 3.30 for the marathon, i'm 100% not doing it myself, to mean to pay entrance fee!!

This like Sunday was fairly comfortable, although the hips played up a bit on last few miles, recovery run now tomorrow before Fridays 5k. Hope legs are up to it.

Recovery after yesterdays LSR, legs were reasonable again, few little aches & pains but nothing major. Run hopefully will refresh the legs for tomorrows 5k, chomping at the bit to get going now.

    Today

    Streets of Athboy 5k - 19.53.

It is what it is, i'm not overly annoyed if i'm honest with the time. After the first mile i knew i had no chance of going sub 19 and a half, just plowed on making sure i broke 20 mins. The 16 & 17 milers in the previous 5 days had taken the zip out of the legs. I wont dwell on it, it was a good workout if nothing else which will stand to me in the future.

Had the pleasure of meeting Tom Joad before the start, had a good chat and let him off to run his race, which he done a mighty fine job of. Met him again after the finish and done a mile warm down, good to meet you TJ, your in great shape and i agree with AMK, you are sandbagging!!!
