I've a heavy right foot myself. I'd be concerned it's not getting fueled correctly and it could cause damage.

There is something very wrong with your system. You shouldn't have any shuddering at all.

Bring it back to the installer

phoned him to day as it was getting worse, told me it was either the plugs or the coil so I changed the plugs going like a dream now. no more shuttering.

Gas is more difficult to ignite and burns hotter. For this reason iridium plugs are sometimes recommended.

Ngk do a range specifically for LPG/CNG.

I have a 2004 Volvo S40 1.8 petrol (last of the 96-04 generation models) and am looking at the option of changing to LPG.

Anyone done a conversion on this make and model of that general era and/or know what MPG I could expect if I converted?

I'm aware of the different fuel costs but if I got some real life feedback on actual MPG being returned I can work out the potential cost savings.

    Thanks.

I think that's pretty cynical to be honest, it's pretty easy to spot those with vested interests, and generally people on here are helpful.

Lpgain in Tallaght. They did my Lexus over 18 months ago and it's been faultless.

I made a huge thread on it ages back.

I'm driving a 2.0 S60 and it's absolutely fine. I get an average of 23mpg on Gas which at half the cost of petrol works out at about 46mpg equivalent. I've never run a full tank of petrol through, but apparently 28-30 mpg is common. It works out about 40% cheaper than petrol as a rule of thumb.

My sums say it's going to be break even around 8000 miles. Some engines suffer from valve seat recession, where the lack of lubrication in the fuel causes wesr to the valves. I've read of s60s with 125000 miles on LPG without issue. If I got 100,000 miles and had to scrap the car at the end of it, I figure I'd have saved about 15 grand in fuel bills.

    Thanks for that, stimpson.

"40% cheaper than petrol as a rule of thumb" - that's excellent. Must do some more research. I'm spending at least €3,500 on petrol per annum so a conversion based on that would pay for itself in less than a year.

How much did your conversion cost, where did you get it done etc?

€1100 in LPGain. The 2.0 is a 5 cylinder. The 1.8 should be cheaper.

    Hi ,
What insurance companies are you with if you have a LPG conversion?

    I'm having problems with FBD.

They told me I need a cert from the installer. ( No problem there)
And a engineers report from the main dealer.
I rang the main dealer and he said he couldn't report on a LPG conversion as he knows nothing about LPG, so therefore he couldn't give me a report.

Any advise would be appreciated, thank
Failing that, I'd move insurance companies.

    Thanks

Ask if an independent engineers report will do and whoever fitted the kit should be able to recommend somebody

This post said FBD just wanted the engineers report -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=88612105&postcount=158

I'd ask to speak to a supervisor and if you don't have any luck then tell them you're going to move your business.

Where can you get LPG fitted now in Dublin?
The outlet on the Naas Road southbound seems to have closed.
I was considering it for my GMC truck but I wouldnt spend the 1600 odd if there were no filling stations in the area.

LPGain in Tallaght are still there.

The Nass Road crowd are now out in Naas. This map seems to be kept up to date:

Regarding my insurance problem, it was solved by someone who actually went and checked what was required rather than guessing.

Rang them again this morning and after checking with the underwriters, all they require is the cert from the installer.

As a matter of interest, did your insurance fee come down a bit or stayed unchanged with the LPG installation?
