Has it been officially announced yet?

Yeah! Mayweather put up a picture of the contract signed. Showtime announced it too, 100% done deal.

Pity it didn't happen a few years ago, but still - gonna be a massive fight. Looking forward to it!

Where would one buy tickets for this?

Talk of the PPV buy being huge in terms of cost to the consumer, upwards of $90-$100

Exactly 5 years too late, May 2010 was the night. Still huge but Mayweather wins this 7,8 times outa 10

Should be a great build-up, even if it's come way too late.

I think it's 50-50 now. Would lean towards Floyd if I had to pick, but I don't think he's the same fighter either.

Glad that it's happening. It's something the sport needs to get out of the way.

Yeah going to be 90 bucks for standard vision and 100 for HD, crazy money so glad i'm not an American, I'm guessing it will be on Sky PPV which is like 25 euro. I'll happily pay 25 quid for this and i'd expect the undercard will be insane.

Nowhere, they will sell out in seconds and will be priced at crazy prices, every room at the MGM has already sold out after only 2 minutes of the fight being announced. The arena will be full of high rollers and celebrities and very very few fans, every A lister will want to go plus all high rollers. Not a hope of getting a ticket.

    Article from the beeb.

Hopefully this fight goes some way to raise the profile of the sport and the move by Al Haymon (which Dirs doesn't mention or is oblivious too) to put some really competitive fights back on terrestrial tv builds on that to create a new wave of stars.

So what do those who thought Floyd was scared of Pacquiao have to say now?

    Oh god, here we go.

You can slice it any way you want. Floyd didn't want anything to do with Manny 2008-10. The fight is years past its expiration date at this stage. Manny isn't what he once was, he'd probably nearly admit that himself.

Gotta give Floyd some credit I guess but yeah meh. I honestly think manny has a better chance now than a few years ago. It would be the best thing in the world for boxing if Floyd loses this

Neither is Floyd, he's much more vulnerable now.

Manny's decline has been sharper than Floyd's. FWIW I think Floyd would have won easily had the fight happened 5-6 years ago when it should have happened. He didn't want it though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

Just because manny isn't ko ing every opponent he fights doesn't mean his decline has been heavier than Floyd. I think he's far more versatile and ''more difficult to beat" now tbh.

It's not so much his lack of KO's that I'm worried about (although he hasn't had one in a loooong time and rios was tailor made for a Manny KO), his performances just haven't impressed me. Up until the 2 maidana fights, Floyd had been on good form, performances vs guerrero and in particular canelo were a joy to watch, for me anyway.

Two reasons why this fight is happening now and not 5 years ago is that Pacquiao is not the force he once was and Mayweather had no other credible option to run to.

That's an assumption, you don't know that. He could have retired after the Maidana a fight if he wanted.

Doesnt he have a contract with Showtime??

He has a 6 fight deal with showtime to honour.

Could of fought Khan instead but his poll didnt go to plan

To be fair I don't think it's a lack of a credible option. I'd say khan has higher name value than the ghost and Ortiz who he fought.

I don't think mayweather fancied it 5 years ago. Pac is not the fighter he was back then.

I'd say mayweather winning now is a formality, might be closer on the cards than his recent fights but I'd say he will be a clear winner.

It's such a shame we didn't get this at the right time.

PBF would have won 5 years ago and WILL win in May

He doesn't have to fight 6 times within the 30 months if he doesn'the want to, he'said not contractually obliged.

Well contractually obligated or not, he signed a 6 fight deal with them from which he stands to earn around $150m from fighting a guy who's stock isn't nearly as high at it was 5 years ago, so I don't see why he'd retire just yet.

As I said, I believe he didn't want the fight back then as it represented too much risk. This time around, the reward is still astronomically high whilst the risk has also diminished substantially. It made more business sense for him to take the fight this time.

That he is finally sure enough that Pac is not a threat to him at this stage in his career.

It doesn't matter what happens, Mayweather ducked the **** out of him when he might have had a shot, I still think Mayweather would have won but his heart will always be questioned due to the ducking.

Its a bit of an insult to Pac that he will actually fight him now tbh, its like him saying, "yeah, you have deteriorated and slowed down enough that I don't see you as a significant risk to my 0 anymore"
