Gerard from Peep Show was a surprise. It's true his character was a creep in Peep Show but he's disturbingly so in Broadchurch.
This is getting to be a habit with me: 2 weeks ago, I refused to believe Trish's ex was Charlie Higson until the credits rolled. Tonight I had to go to Google to find out who the convicted rapist was.
Satisfying enough episode. The set-piece football match was a bit cringey, to be honest - but the twist re the DNA test was quite good. And the finale raised the stakes a bit further, so I'm happily looking forward to next week.

I can't believe it's going to be Gerard from Peep Show. He's too obvious, and if it does happen to be him then it will be a major cop out from the writer because it would exonerate everybody at the party, and the investigation into that side of things will have been completely pointless - although he might have something to do with the attack on the woman who appeared at the police station in last night's final scene.

Is Miller trying to get attacked with her late night walking in dark paths?

Pretty off the wall I know but I think her friend who's birthday it was was responsible (either on her own with prosthetic or in conjunction with a guy)

I thought "but what if it's a woman?!" the first week when they were listing all the men at the party. Could well be her with the baseball bat, because she found out about Trish & her husband. The condom wrapper at the scene matched a box in their car, but if it wasn't him...Did she do it with the intention of framing him?

It better not be Miller's son because it can't be her family again! I do think the two boys were watching a video of the attack last week. But then Chloe Latimer said something happened to Hardy's daughter this week, so that vid could have been that too.

    So many red herrings.

In last week's episode, Tom Miller stole his phone back from his mother's room and showed his friend a video on it. We didn't actually see the video, just the two boys standing looking at the phone with a kind of shocked expression.

I think we were meant to think it was a video of Trish's attack (given that the boys were caught with porn before), but it could have been some bullying of Hardy's daughter either.

What's on the ex's laptop that he wants deleted? Is he involved in sharing vids with the young lads? It's good. I presume we'll see a return of killer Joe to set up a fourth series.

With Chris Chibnall taking over Doctor Who, I think this will be it.

I assume it a Trojan/backdoor allowing access to laptop.

Never picked up on that, thank you.

Love Broadchurch, one of the best TV shows at the moment.

I'm none the wiser after that :(

Any ideas how many episodes in this series?

I think 8, so only 5 more to go.
Honestly there a re so many suspects at this stage...it surely has to be 2 or more people involved....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,201 ✭✭✭languagenerd

Oh I thought there were only 6 - quite relieved that wasn't the penultimate one last night so! Still, I thought we'd be reducing the suspect pool now rather than adding an entire sports team to the mix... I still think Cath has something to do with it but who knows at this stage? Maybe it's the entire bloody sports team involved and the series of previous rapes are all by different players

    Also. Joe effing Miller. Agh.

Is there any chance the vicar or Mark Latimer could be involved? They're the only 2 blokes who haven't been suspects... yet.
It's definitely redeemed itself in this series.

That vicar's been bugging me since Series 1. The beard only makes things worse. To take away surface issues, I thought it odd that he was so disappointed when Beth said Trish wasn't interested in taking her problem to him/religion. Fairly lacking in grace for a clergyman, I thought. But maybe I just can't get past the beard.

His character is better this year imo.
He seems to be experiencing a crisis of faith. It's not clear whether that's in god or the congregation, but he's made reference to how people come to church to ask God for help when things go wrong, then abandon it when things get back to normal.
He felt he had purpose before, and now he's a bit lost, and is even looking to council people in a secular way. he's mentioned Beth and the work she does in helping people.
His frustrations are showing in how he reacted to Mark, when he said he'd found Joe.

It's actual character development, rather than the usual broadchurch format, where everyone's a suspect, then bam, the only person you didn't suspect is the perpetrator.

I read that last bit in a Mark Latimer accent(pirate-esquel/local to that area):D

Well, that was underwhelming. It really feels like the writers are stretching the material beyond its limit to expand the story to 7 episodes. Joe Miller's contribution brought nothing to the table and then a key figure from the first series had to - apparently - lay down his life to give this week's episode the emotional punch the main plot couldn't deliver.

Would agree with you, the whole Mark and Joe scenes did nothing for the story at all. I couldn't have cared less if Mark had killed Joe. Better off leaving the legacy story out of it and doing 6 good episodes

Loved the fact that Mark spotted Joe last week, and kept his distance... obviously building up to a standoff this week.
But then it shows Mark waking up in his van outside of Joe's work, and he gets out of the van to reveal the massive "MARK LATTIMER PLUMBING" on the side of the van! :D
    Inconspicuous or wha?!
