Enough there to keep me watching, seems like everyone's involved.

I've only seen the 1st episode but it's certainly good. Does anyone else think Olivia Colman looks very like Miss Jones from Rising Damp though? Keeps popping into my head every time she's on screen.

At this rate I'm suspecting David Tennant (I think that Pauline Quirke's dog may also know something).

I definitely think Ellie's son Tom knows something in connection to the murder.
I wonder what was on the hard drive he destroyed - porn maybe? Something that ties him in with Danny and the murderer.
    Maybe Nige?

    Broadchurch threads merged.

thinking there's a link about copper's husband and maybe her son suspects something? trying to remember the night they had dinner with new boss cop and he told him how he moved to Broadchurch? any ideas?

My theory is he killed Danny accidentally when they were out hunting pheasants with Nige.
What makes it even more of a tragedy is that Susan Wright is partly to blame.
    How? Well bear with me...
She appears to have been following Nige for many years to ensure he didn't turn out like his father. A few episodes ago, we saw Nige give her an envelope of money - probably for her to live on.
How did he get this money? From shooting the pheasants and selling them to the butcher.

Why is it tragic? Well if Susan wasn't keeping an eye on Nige, there would never have been a need for him to raise the extra money for her to live on and he wouldn't have needed to go shooting pheasants. As a result, Danny would still be alive.

Now, he claims that he didn't know Susan was his mother but they have definitely crossed paths in the past because she said "I've disappeared before, I can do it again", perhaps indicating she has been holding a watching brief over him for many years.

That's one theory and it might not hold up to much scrutiny.
Either that or Ellie's husband is the perpetrator and is tied in to the case that was previously botched by Alex and is the murderer from that case. Somehow that seems a bit too far-fetched though.

What's on the laptop though? Messages about meeting up to go stealing pheasants?

    It is set in Dorset.
    His name is Hardy.
He is reading Jude the Obscure.
The plot of Jude is child murder.
It is (IMHO) a Thomas Hardy novel - and from that, Watson, I deduce it is Ollie the young journo.

What a terribly sad final episode. I'm rarely moved by a TV programme but that really made a lump stick in my throat.

See the final credit at the end?
    second series??!!

Must say I was very disappointed. A completely illogical resolution designed to pull the heart strings. Pity.

Did the son know/suspect all along?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,330 ✭✭✭niallon

    The minute that
Susan was leaving the police station and Miller said "in you own house, how could you not know" coupled with Susan thinking she saw Nige and how similar he is to Tom
I knew it, only took me seven episodes but hey!

Fantastic show, Tennant is just bloody fantastic. Creator has said he only meant it as a one off but the second series option has to be there of course, more angry grumpy cop Tennant is no bad thing IMO

Can I ask again guys........... Did the son know/suspect all along that his father was the killer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭Jester144

No, I don't think he did - the son was angry with Danny because Danny said he had a new 'friend' and did not want to be friends with Joe anymore.

Read online today that the new series might possibly be set around the aftermath of Danny's death, not another 'whodunnit'.

Not a fan, pretty contrived and could have been anyone they wanted it to be after 7 episodes.

Sorry for the bump but I wasn't really interested in it until it got broadcast in the US to critical acclaim. Sat and watched the entire season in a week. Great stuff all round. Can't wait for the second season.

I missed it to and ITV havent repeated it,I wonder if TV3 will show it!

Watching the first episode and rather enjoying it. Tennant is good and it's always nice to see Colman but by Christ she looks miserable. Casting agents must see the wires middle aged female and crying in a script and instantly think of Colman. She spends most of the first episode either crying or on the verge of.

What channel are you watching it on or is it by, ahem, other means?

Well worth a watch for David Tennant's character. Good production if a bit obvious towards the end.

Missed it when it aired on ITV, so I'm delighted to be able to catch it now. Loved the first episode last week - can't wait for episode 2 tonight.

After tonights episode I done a google search to find out who was responsible for the murder of Danny Lattimer.
I get to spend the next number of weeks watching HOW they piece this together while being able to rule out any side-swipe(s) the producers might throw in.

Never seen David Tennant in anything before this, but I'll be keeping an eye out for him in other series from now on.

    Gripping series, this Broadchurch!

And anybody who knows who the killer is, do not post the name in here.....even in spoilers....can't resist clicking on them.....

Really enjoyed the two episodes so far.

It's quite weird seeing Sophie from Peep Show in a sympathetic role.Tennant's quite good too, even if his character is fairly cliched.I've only ever seen him in ads for Virgin Media before as I dislike Doctor Who,so I'm pleasantly surprised.

I recognised the psychic phone engineer from somewhere too.

Why would you spoil it for yourself like that?

Half the enjoyment of the series is guessing and second-guessing yourself as you try to figure out who did what and why!

Well did anyone correctly guess the killer:p

I am at this stage in my life where I just have to reduce all needless un-certainty, stress and anxiety. ~ Watching programmes that are gripping, where I want to know the conclusion and can, then I just have to.
~ Watching programmes where the storyline has taken me over, such as Broadchurch, then I need to know what happens next.

fyi: ~ In every day life, if I can find out how something ends, then I opt for that, instead of guessing & second-guessing and adding to un-certainty, stress and anxiety that I just don't need in my life.

Going through what I have done, to this stage in life, has resulted in this for me.

I just saw the finale episode of Broadchurch and it just had me in tears. I knew who was responsible, but it just took me over and owned me. It was one fantastic series that I will buy if out on dvd to re-watch.
Fantastic series in every way, from the aspect of the community being close -> to questioning everyone within -> to the bonding once a resolution/conclusion/the Lattimer family being able to lay Danny to Rest. I just found it over-whelming and brought back some tough feelings within while watching the funeral and bonfires.

I think that more than answers your question on Why?!
