Here's our coverage of it. Waiting to hear back from a manager about the PS4 situation. Seems that they may not be enforcing the same policy when it comes to the PS4 pre-?orderd

Over now, Joseph from TGL was great. Matt Cooper said his team tried to get a quote from XV all day and they recieved 1 line 'We won't be making people buy an extra game for the PS4 launch'. Nothing about why they did it for XBOX, no excuse, apology, just they won't do it for PS4. Matt didn't have much to say but great to hear it out there.

so xtravision stated there not doing it for the PS4, but not a word why they did it with the Xbox.

Absolutely incredible how bad this has being and continues to be handled. Seriously are Hilco trying to asset strip the xtravision brand ? because they are pissing all over it with this.

Because people didn't know it was coming. They did for the PS4 and the tons of bad press that Xtravision have got has forced them to slither back into their hole.

They should have just opened them up as HMV's and ditched the XV brand.

It's a bit of piece of mind for those getting the PS4, but still no resolution for those who were stung by this with the XBO. Not even an admission of guilt, just that it won't be happening with the PS4 launch.

Well, the main thing happened - they got bad publicity and a lot of gamers are going to other business instead.

    Adrian Weckler – 25 November 2013

A row has erupted between Xtra-vision and its customers over the retailer's refusal to honour 'pre-orders' for the Xbox One console without additional purchases.

In a move that has incensed some gamers and parents, Xtra-vision has told customers who 'pre-ordered' the Xbox One video game console that they must now buy an additional game -- valued at €50 -- to receive their game console. The retailer is offering a refund to those who choose not to purchase the additional game.

The Xbox One is sold out with parents unlikely to find alternative sources of supply before Christmas.

The move has led to fury on online forums and social media, including Xtra-vision's Facebook page, which has received dozens of written complaints.

However, the company is sticking to its position, believing that it is not falling foul of consumer law. A spokesman for Xtra-vision said that the firm had no official statement to make on the matter. A spokesman for Microsoft did not return calls on the issue.

The retailer will not apply the same measures to pre-orders of the Playstation 4, which goes on sale this Friday.

Xtra-vision staff in some branches told customers today that the move was implemented after pricing difficulties with Microsoft emerged.

Very dangerous of them implying at all it's anything to do with ms, due to already negative publicity could see ms make an example of them. I don't believe the xbox ones are selling out as much as reporting as my preorder is in and I wasn't expecting it until after Christmas.

XTRA-VISION IS FACING a raft of criticism after customers who pre-ordered the new Xbox One were asked to buy an additional game on top of the purchase when collecting the console.

The console was officially released on Friday but many Irish gamers pre-ordered it over the last few months and even paid in advance. One of the features of the console is that games can be bought and downloaded from the Xbox Games Store so that users do not need to buy a physical copy

But many customers of Xtra-Vision were surprised and angered to discoverer that when they went to collect the console they were asked to pay for a game that would cost an additional €50-€60.

According to customers who contacted TheJournal.ie and many who have have taken to the Xtra-Vision Facebook page to complain, this requirement was asked of pre-order customers even if they had already paid in full.

Xtra-Vision offered customers who did not wish to pay for the extra game a full refund on their purchase.

As well as complaining directly to the company there are extensive threads on both Reddit and Boards.ie with customers venting their anger about their experiences with Xtra-Vision.

A spokesperson for Xtra-Vision said that the company had “no comment” to make on the issue.
