MM how much would you charge for a full paint correction, I was speculating it the other day and I figured i'd shop around, or diy it so yeah!

How long is piece of string? It really depends on how badly damaged your paint is and how big the car is because the longer it needs to be worked on, the more it's going to cost.

Depends on how much string you need ;)

Well it's for the new yoke, the paint is about 95% new, I haven't found any scratches on it yet, not bad for a 14 year old car

You'd be amazed what can be found once you send your car in for bodywork!

By scratches I also mean swirling, marring and any other defects. To give you an idea, for a car the size of a 5 series with badly swirled/scratched paint, you'd be looking at c. €500.

True but I've gone over it at least three times so far, just to make sure, there is a teeny tiny dent, on the roof but it's barely noticeable

Well if you're at the next and I've the saab, I'll let you look at it yourself and see what you think

What a long drive, 950kms from 1pm to 10pm, driving rain at the beginning, dark from 400kms in and, worst of all, a cracked windscreen for the last 600kms. A beer, a burger then bed before a 28hour ferry across the bay of Biscay in this weather. I think I'm cracked as well as broke from 150litres of petrol.

Same reaction as everyone else :P People really don't know what's involved in the job, the time involved, the work involved and the experience needed to do the job properly.

If you want a cheap, hide-the-swirls-until-it's-washed-twice job, your local valetor will do that for you in an hour :P

No money and too much driving make Marcusm go something something

Tp buy yourself a DA and learn how to do it yourself. It'll take time and practice, but will be worth it in the end.

    And apologies mm

And i rarely do that :P

See luckily I appreciate the effort of something such as that, and i have a small idea of what goes into it, taking it from work I've done for people (building architectural models) People think it's as easy as throwing a few pieces of card together and make a big fuss when I say 50 or 100 quid

And the astra suddenly has a new purpose! :pac: I'm a bit wary of doing it myself, I know how easy it is to screw something like that up

And charge him **** loads for what he's done. The Valetor is a false economy

There was a thread called Car Plans 2013. Here's what I had in my list:

CD Changer - still looking for a 2nd hand unit as new ones are nigh on €1000

    We've had this conversation before:pac:

In all seriousness it would be cheaper for you to buy a brand new car.

With a DA? It's very difficult to damage your paintwork with one unless you're a complete idiot

Don't apologise, it's up to him what he wants to do at the end of the day. I'm only answering his questions :)

Aye true, but it's the method of doing it that i wouldn't be too sure about

I just remembered I've a stupid question, the OHs E200 is bleating about the brake lining being worn.

    WTF is brake lining?

That bastard C5 started first time tonight too

Lines the brake fluid flows through

Lovely, can they be affected by driving through flooding? His car bleeps more often than not with all sorts of bizarre warnings.

So it's wear on the brake lines? Is that a big job to replace?

Is it not the liners on the rear brake shoes?

Not unless they have metal parts to join them and they have become corroded or water has somehow managed to get into the system (possibly through condensation?)

I'd say it's this. There's no sensors on the brake lines to indicate wear.

Lads, many thanks, I'm familiar with shoes and discs, and this message just confused me, so there is some sort of lining on the rear brakes that wears before the shoes go?

@ super, sorry if I confused you :)

Going to mention it to the mechanic Monday anyway, I was more wondering wtf brake lining was :) thanks :)

I dunno, thats an awful lot of work to do on a car. I was just thinking that at the moment you are paying for a car and all the stuff you want to do. If you bought a brand new one then you would just have to pay for the car.
    Just a thought!

    Plans for 2014
    Maintenance for scratchy.
    Buy another car!

The liner is the friction material ( pad) on the shoes.
