Seriously though, its just something that I don't know how to overcome, and that's the kicker.

    keyboard.xml file mod perhaps ?

Hey Nelly, are you giving me that K400 or what ?;)

Worth alot more than 20 quid for a start:) but I think I will hold onto it, planning on getting Windows based box(pipo or something) and will need it then as will probably use box for email etc then, save me getting off ass to get laptop when sending emails :p

Hi this may have been answered but what kind of internet speed is required to operate one of these devices seamlessly?

Im not sure exactly what speed exactly. I use UPC which is fast

However a few pointers, if your BB is slow

use Ethernet cable if possible will be faster than wifi
Popcorn time has the option to download, rather than stream (using the GUI) , which means once the download completes, no stuttering, pausing etc
720 , will be of course quicker than 1080p

I'd use ethernet all the time even if you've great wifi. Wifi on most of the cheaper boxes are crap.

Ill defo use the ethernet but im moving to a rural area and i lived there few years back and broadband was very poor im sure its better now but just wondered what sort of speed id need

The MK808B has Openelec version on them. They are still going really cheap on chinese websites. It does depend on where you are putting them as wifi can be poor, normally they miss customs as well.

Be warned I have took in about 8 of them, one batch I had 3 out of 5 fail. Second boot they blew up. That was from the website we cannot mention on here....

I have spent weeks trying to get them to refund and still waiting for the refund. They are a joke to get refund. Great and cheap is box works ok but nightmare if you have to use warranty. Have a look on Freaktab for some threads on return issues(you will find mine as well)

Still and all, 5 out of the 8 are working and probably going to buy another 2 to run OpenELEC and keep 1 as test box, miss having no test box at the moment.

Apart from that you are looking at maybe the MXII, I bought one to use OpenELEC but that was the one that crapped out on OpenELEC install and never booted again:P

I am starting to see a theme here, maybe I am the issue for burning out boxes:P:P

If they are planning to use them over WiFi, then Amazon Fire TV Stick for 25GBP seems unbeatable at the moment. I always use ethernet where I can, with this it is not an option but the WiFi is vastly superior to my MK808. No OpenElec from what I see but they run Kodi well.

I am thinking of buying one of these, just wondering does any of the Amazon stuff work now?

UPDATE: For those who have one of the Amlogic quad-core chinese cheapo boxes and are using an external keyboard, the above problem that was annoying me is down to the packaged browser. It is embedded in the ROM and cannot be deleted but it can be disabled, then simply install another browser from the play store and the "G" shortcut to Google is disabled.

Generally speaking, if you're watching live streams, you'd need minimum speeds of 2.5MB for SD and 5MB for HD. Anything less than those and you'd be getting a lot of buffering. I'd imagine that the same would apply for "recorded" streams.

    Be careful

There is 2 version of MXQ. I got the MXQ S85 with button in middle and red strip at side and no version of OpenELEC on it. The dev guy on freaktab burned his out.....

There is other versions of the MXQ which have OpenELEC available for them......

That Tronsmart MXIII 1GB that Allyall linked few weeks back is available for $54.99 with code MXIII20 yet.
I understood that only 1 site could not be linked or spoken of here, but seeing red card for previous post, I'm confused?

It was just a geekbuying site link. Somehow mod thought I have posted an affliated link. To me it wasnt the case. I am here long enough to know not to post affliated or maketing links :)

This the device I was referring to:

HD23 Android 4.4 TV BOX Allwinner H3 Quad Core 1.6G 1G/8G WIFI 1080P HDMI 5.0MP Camera H.265 with Dual MIC

Well I was accused of been part of affiliated program so I am just not posting any links anymore....easier that way.....

Makes sense. Just post the site name and the device name. People can go in there and search.
