Was watching it there. He won by some margin .He could barely walk when he got off the bike at the finish, monster of an effort. Perfectly placed going into the sharp corner at the bottom of the hill into the last 1km.

The crash held up the camera bike so was nervous times until the fixed camera picked him up at the finish.

No, I've been watching it on the race's site all week http://vueltaburgos.com/

There will be a better one later I'd say

To quote another Irish sprinter some years back - "What kept ye lads? Did ye stop for chips?"

Crash or not I have a feeling he was planning to go long today.

Yeah definitely, it was similar to a a stage in Turkey he's won a few times.

Archbold and Morkov did a savage job there to get him in position at the front at exactly the right time so no one could jump him out of the corner with 1km to go.

Anyone know what happened to Bennett today? Did he crash or just not contest the sprint?

Didn't get through the last climb...

Only had half an eye on it , from what I saw Gilbert and a few others were looking to take seconds at the intermediate sprint and things got lined out and Sam went pop on the hill. Camera showed him in his granny gear waving at the camera to get away.

Interesting. Seems like most of the other sprinters made it over ok. Hopefully just a blip and not a bad sign for TdF.

Fantastic stuff. Was worried when he blew a gasket yesterday.

He won that very handy over Demare and Degenkolb!

What a turnaround from yesterday and today was a harder day I would have thought with a 1km 8% climb taken a few times over the local laps.

He obliterated Demare & Degenkolb there. When Sam is in a good position for the sprint he's very hard to beat

First time I paid any mind to the jersey to the point I now know Deceuninck are basically the Munster Joinery of Belgium in that I had no clue what they made and know it's windows, wonder are their recommenced installers as extortionate as MJ :D

I wonder can you buy that helmet anywhere?

Watched the highlights this morning. Obviously he seems a bit hit and miss (San Remo, Monday versus yesterday) on hard parcours, but I'll say again, definitely classics potential getting over climbs raced like they were yesterday. Dege more a classics man than a sprinter these days, as is Demare.

I'm guessing the finish is too steep for him today right? Haven't seen it but they seem to think it'll favour the punchuers.

It's a bit longer than yesterday but similar gradient 1.6km at 8.7% and it's done twice I think

One of things Sam is being coached to do is effectively sit up and ride in if he is not in contention for the win, obviously more relevant in stage races but thats why if he's not at the front he's tending to come in quite some way back.
Makes sense as he's not paid to be a GC man and winning is what he is about.

Which is great to see, proper tactics, if your a sprint specialist and your not going to be in contention, just have your team car give you enough info to get in ahead of the time limit. Use the bunch but don't over do it. He really is a wonderful sprinter to watch and he can do such a variety of finishes if he is near the front.
