Great work rsf but you re wrong w 2007. We played 5 games that yr- armagh tyrone leitrim(where i wax lucky enough to witness a 17 yr old by the name of m murphy made his debut and score a great goal when we were in all sorts of trouble) westmeath and monaghan.

Aye, to be honest, that was a highlight of the year for me. Declan Browne was a class player.

Missed the Longford game - I would have liked to have seen Paul Barden play.

Aye, a very strange year. From 6 points against Fermanagh to an All Ireland Semi-Final.

Good catch, had missed Westmeath and Leitrim altogether, even though I was on my own in Carrick that evening, everyone else was at Oxegen. Felt sick for the last couple of minutes....

Check it out, there was even a match thread for that game!

I'm not expecting too much from Sunday tbh. Word is that McGuinness is happy with promotion and is fully focussed now on Derry so I expect he'll rest anyone in any doubt for Sunday and give game time to those that need it. McGuinness will probably be more interested in the second match! :)

Monaghan have seven weeks to their Ulster Quarter Final which is ridiculous, when we are out in four weeks. I'm not complaining from a Donegal perspective, just making a general point.

Still, given that that this is their last competitive game for over a month, I'd expect Monaghan to give it a, good rattle. I know it's not really that much of a big deal (if you check out the 2011 Final highlights on YouTube you will notice the players weren't exactly overjoyed after beating Laois) but I'll be disappointed if we don't play to win on Sunday.

From Frank Craig (Donegal Post) on Twitter:

    Durcan
    E McGee
    N McGee
    Lacey
    McGlynn
    McLoone
    Thompson
    Kavanagh
    McElhinney
    Toye
    R McHugh
    MacNiallais
    McBrearty
    Murphy
    C McFadden

Have to say that I am kind of surprised that Leo McLoone (who didn't play last Sunday) starts while Mark McHugh (who did) doesn't. I'm also curious about midfield. Neil Gallagher seems to be fit enough to start at this stage. McElhinney has had a very good league, but isn't a great fielding option. He should be able to give Finlay a good run around however.

I won't be surprised if there are a few changes come throw in on Sunday. It does seem like McGuinness intends to persist with McLoone at 6 which is surprising (although they may be trying other things in training) but good to see McBrearty named. I wonder will McGrath get a run out as well.

Subs: Boyle, David Walsh, Declan Walsh, Keaney, McGrath :), Gallagher, Classon , Mark McHugh, O'Reilly, O'Connor, Molloy

I don't like running down our lads, but I don't want to see Leo McLoone at centre back for the Championship. In fact, I just don't think he'd be in my 15 if everyone is fit.

    Prove me wrong Leo.

As ever, this is always the caveat when looking at the 'team named'. Frustrating for us trying to discuss it!

I'd be inclined to agree. I think he's a fine player but don't want him anywhere near the number 6 berth.

    Jim knows best I suppose.

100% agree; far often to weak in tackle and far too often head down when pushing forward; often runs into bodies which a good 6 should avoid at all costs. I do not like the prospect of Leo picking up Lynch next month; so hope he proves me wrong as looking like he will be the man

Minors beat Tyrone too; think it finished 1-15 to 2-07

Yep, Minors unbeaten in the Ulster League. Great stuff, but like last year, big big test awaits in 1st Round. Sucks that there's no back door in Ulster (or Connacht) unless you get to provincial final.

Great news. Very good team there.

Worth pointing out that Derry never fielded against them. A ploy for the cgampionagip you would have thought but theynlost to Fermanagh so who knows what they are like.

Indeed, Derry never fielded and played without their Pats Maherga players whenever they did play in the League.

Similar story last year, I went to Donegal v Derry in MacCumhaill Park and it was a farce, Donegal ran out easy winners.

Watching the All Ireland Schools Final, Derry will likely have plenty of talent to call on from Pats - not sure how many of them are still Under 18, but pretty sure Glass (the ginger midfielder) is and he is some player. The Pats full back line was outstanding as well, and they had a few good forwards.

We seem to have a free taker this year (John Campbell from Buncrana seems to be the main man), something which cost us dearly last year.

The big thing about this years team is the progression from other levels. The same group have won Ulster titles in 2012 and 2013 (U17 McGuigan Cup and U-16 Buncrana Cup) and I think Declan Bonner has been their manager all along.

Hurlers lost 1-12 to 1-11 against Roscommon. This being hurling, I am sure they get another chance somewhere....

He's done a great job for sure. I'd hope he'd go up to the U-21's in a short while. Getting very far ahead of ourselves but could be a procession to the senior job. Cutting off there as I don't want to contemplate the messiah JMG heading off into the sun just yet!

But the minor lads have an all ireland in their sights as it happens. Dreaming big no question, but they have serious ambitions this year which is great.

    Steady on...

Don't forget Declan managed Donegal before. That's not to say he shouldn't get the chance again of course.

And, let's worry about an Ulster title before we think about an Ireland. We're a long way off both yet even if the signs are good.

And I will go on record now - I don't think Jim McGuinness will be senior manager next year. That's just my own opinion and I'll say no more on it until after the Championship.

Whats the deal w classon? He seems to start every yr in panel before falling away? Jim seems to like him. Dont think hes q good enough.

That's the mentality in the camp my friend, not my own. They're setting the bar high for themselves. See how things pan out, it's a big ask, but it's good to see them wanting to compete at that level. Considering we've not won a minor championship since 2006 it;s taken a lot of hard work and effort to get this current panel to where they are. Admittedly before a balls been kicked. I've high hopes for them this year.

I agree about Jim. He said four years, that's this year. I think this will be it. Anyway, we'll park that there and come back to it when it's done.

Went to america didn't he? Jim rates him very highly. Good solid player, senior inter county? Not convinced as yet.

Yep, exactly as happens in the football championship, a backdoor system is in place ;)

Is Rory Kav suspended for Derry now?

    Daft. Very unlike him.

very poor donegal performance. Serious problem in slow build up, poor foot passing, no tackling or physical presence. Scores from midfield and backline have dried up. These have been recurring issues with the team since midway through the league. My worry is we are going to see a repeat of last years fiasco. It cant be all down to tiredness. Well done Monaghan.

He is suspended. He was provoked of course, and a Monaghan player should have got a yellow if not a red for the same incident. No excuse however, experienced player and one of our best performers this year.

It's only the League of course...

Whatever, we were very poor today. Here's a stat for you - Monaghan scored 1-14 from play, Donegal scored 0-4.

I had us as the second tier with Mayo, Cork, Tyrone, maybe Kerry but after last July and again today, we cannot say that Donegal are better than Monaghan.

Apart from the second game today, I can't take any positives from Croke Park this afternoon.I don't know if there's any point in saying a whole lot more, because we could well go out and beat Derry in four weeks time and then I'll look foolish.

had to work today so was streaming it and giving a few inches of screen space... kinda glad its all i was able for.

your right tho, Derry's collapse is the only positive for us going forward, even if we manage to get past them, i cant see us winning ulster again

A poor day. Psychologically more than anything because we are leaving the league on a negative note rather than a positive one. But it's up for JMG to turn that round. If there's one thing he's good at it's that!

Rory's suspension is niggling at me though. Our cup does not overflow at midfield does it.

How were the dubs in the flesh?

Monaghan are and were more ohysical. They have a better balanced team. I would include Tyrone and possibly Derry (hoping not) with them.
