I'm actually pretty optimistic for BF5. Considering how catastrophically bad the BF4 launch was, you'd like to think they'll go outta their way to prevent it this time round. I don't think DICE LA get enough credit for what they've done. Maybe it's too easy to say, but the CTE program saved this game and has made huge strides in improving the franchise overall. Weapon balance is pretty good, even with over 100 guns to pick. Despite 64 players and vehicles on large maps, the BF4 'netcode' is now one of the best on the market and even trumps COD. The creation of the Competitive Gaming division would suggest that they're invested in the next release. Sure the single fact that BF5 won't be on the old gen consoles means it can, and will, be more ambitious. DICE admitted the hardware limitations of the PS3 & XBox caused problems during the development of BF4, so this is their chance to implement all those ideas that have been on the back burner for over 2 years.

To me, the past 2 years were almost like a large beta test for the next game. Endured some horrendous teething problems but as far as I'm concerned, the end product made it worthwhile. DICE have a reputation to somewhat rebuild while EA have a game they need to be successful. I'm willing to get my hopes up that we won't be disappointed this time.........that being said, if it's futuristic, I won't be going near it :pac:

Any Virgin Media people having problems with pings on PC servers? Specifically those based in Germany?
Getting rank pings to servers I have been playing on for months since Sunday. :(

    This one for examplehttp://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/servers/show/pc/96147719-0d55-4d62-a047-46a74b54d1b4/1-24-7-Rock-n-Roll-All-Maps-No-Rules-Fast-XP/

I'm getting 40ms to that one. I can't say I found any issues with any of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,780 ✭✭✭jamo2oo9

Yeah, used to be able to play fine over wifi before Christmas and now, I can't even play a game without the ping going over 100ms via ethernet connection... Virgin also throttled our speeds massively. Was on 100mb down and 40-45 up. Down to 17 down and 0.019 up :o

I found that quite often, BL would show me with around 30ms but when I connected in it would be 200+.

Did a trace to the server and came up with:
    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.192.1
    2 15 ms 9 ms 12 ms 089-100-142001.ntlworld.ie [89.100.142.1]
    3 11 ms 11 ms 14 ms 089-100-142001.ntlworld.ie [89.100.142.1]
    4 13 ms 9 ms 9 ms 188-141-127-1.dynamic.upc.ie [188.141.127.1]
    5 78 ms 74 ms 74 ms ie-dub01a-ra4-ae34-0.aorta.net [84.116.238.54]
    6 * * * Request timed out.
    7 78 ms 72 ms 89 ms de-fra04a-rc1-ae26-0.aorta.net [84.116.132.18]
    8 72 ms 72 ms 71 ms de-fra01b-ri2-ae32-0.aorta.net [84.116.134.190]
    9 74 ms 74 ms 74 ms 213.46.177.34
    10 276 ms 282 ms 289 ms link11.ociris.com [80.95.152.210]
    11 303 ms 294 ms 287 ms 176.57.170.58

A clear problem after it left the UPC network. Also that IP address on 10 has shown problems in the past for people playing from a quick google search.

That said, it stabilized yesterday at around 10pm and I managed to get a few games in. Will test again later this evening and see what it's like.

That's the tell tale sign of a saturated link.

Funny enough the whole thing has stabilized again now after Wed evening. Had been rubbish for days.
The Virgin Media forums for UK had tonnes of complaints about it from last year for different games and they had been working with whatever ISP looks after it.

Anyway, working again now so happy enough.

Has anyone on xbox one noticed a drop in frame rate lately to really bad levels or is it just me(my non fully HD TV, playing wireless the past few months possible issues on my end)...... I don't know is it just I'm playing games like The Division and going back to BF, but it looks worse over the past few weeks than I remembered even two months ago.

Game looks atrocious when I scope in the distance and even up close its so blocky looking.

For graphical reasons alone I cant wait for 5, I'm being put off by the frame rate lately I have to say.

I'm not seeing anything there that means BF related though, could just be the CoD Remaster release that's starting to seep out.

Won't make a blind bit of difference. Most people seem to play Metro all day long (myself included even though I have premium sub)

Hi Guys, never played a battlefield before but thinking of grabbing the premium version of this for 15 quid on PSN, is there still a big enough online community for MP games? Is it hard to pick up and get used to?

Hang on, it's 15 on PSN? I was debating getting this or hanging on 'til 5 (loved bc2 & bf3 on the xbox360, only recently got a ps4), but it's a no brainer if that's the case!

Yeah standard version 9.99 and premium with all DLC is 14.99

you may as well jump as battlefield 5 will most likely be broken for the first 12 months of it run anyway :p

Still averaging over 30,000 players every day so for €15 it's a bargain. Easily the best FPS on console at the minute and after 2½ years everything is well balanced. You can find Noob servers as well, you'll get the odd asshole taking advantage but it's normally well respected.
Just make sure you both stick your PSN up in the PS4 thread, there's still a few of us that'd be fairly active. No harm checking out our Battlelog Platoon either; http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/platoons/view/7565896021935389562/

Also, if anyone here doesn't have Hardline but wants to claim the "temporarily free" DLC they're offering, you can get it on Origin on PC without owning the base game before they start charging for it again after May 10th -handy in case you want to add Hardlineto the library some day!

I was nearly crying laughing last night after discovering how deadly that little remote controlled robot is.
I was killing lads, blowing up vehicles, mines and generally causing chaos with it.
    Fun times.

When you have a few eod's going it's great craic. They can activate/deactivate mcoms in rush and blowup enemy mines.

It's good craic with the Mav too remotely detonating explosives as fellas lay them down :D
