Has anyone here seen this magazine, http://www.startrek-starships.com/eng/index.asp, apparently it's launching here next week. Can't say I'm too interesting in most of the models, but II've been looking to get my hands on a model Defiant for years, and the Enterprise D looks pretty sweet! I'mjust hoping it will be available in Cork and not vanish from the shelves before the Defiant issue.

Ooh I really like those models, I wonder if they'll pop up on ebay for sale without having to subscribe to the mags

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,125 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

I'm guessing they will, though from looking at the website it appears that you can buy back issues from there eventually.

UK/ROI page not working here but from browsing through the US side there's some cool ships being offered (lists what issues come with what too):

    http://www.startrek-starships.com/usa/ship-order.html

Defiant is #9 but to be honest there's quite a few I wouldn't mind having :)

On a side note it'd be nice to know how many issues there are likely to be in total. The site says they'll send you a binder every 16 issues and there are 30 issues so far listed on the website. I don't need ALL of Starfleet.

Aha, just seen the FAQ where it says there are 70 planned issues, that's a lot!

If you pop into easons a week or two after each issue was released, you'll pick them up for a euro or two each. They always sell off the excess partworks cheap. There'll be a boxful near the mags.

3.99 for the first issue, the model of the D isn't too shabby, though the nacelles feel a small bit flimsy

Got the first issue. Beautiful model :)

This could be my Ketracel White...

Anyone buying them in stores, rather than subbing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,125 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Buying them in the shops myself, to be honest I'm not interested in a lot of the ships on offer

I wonder what the deal with the specials is, a space station or two would be quite nice...

Ah balls this is turning out to be a real need to do, is it too late to subscribe & get issue 1?

I rang eaglemoss this morning. A few times a year, subscribers have the option of buying specials at extra cost. They'll be a bit more than the regular model cost but wont be available to non-subscribers.

I am really wondering whether I should even bother. I have done some research on EagleMoss and I read the work "rip-off" and "extortion" mentioned quite a bit.

    So. Very. Tempted.

Are these weekly or monthly or what? £9.99 a week might be a bit gratuitous. Jesus, that's nearly £700 (€820!) by the time it's finished?

But damn they look nice :)

[edit] it's every two weeks, I just spotted on the site. Charged for two issues at a time. 28 days notice and an email or phonecall to cancel a subscription.

Easons reckon they could be 17 euro each every 2 weeks...

I also asked Eaglemoss why there is such a massive difference between the STG and Euro prices. They are offering free shipping to Ireland so it shouldn't cost that much...

Anyways, having rewatched Season 3 of Enterprise along with the gf (first time, loved it), I'm delighted about the Xindi love. Also...Enterprise J :D

Ah right, crap. I forgot to click the Ireland flag on the website. €15.99 an issue ordering online.

Would be great to have but that's too steep for me :(. I'll keep a look out in the shops for cheaper older issues or something.

€15.99 is taking the piss, £9.99 sterling is only €11.72!

Being overcharged over 36% for living in Ireland! Over the 70 issues the overcharge alone is over €300 when you include the extras. There's no downwardly sliding scale discount for subscribing either which is disappointing.

    70 issues @ €15.99 = €1,119.30
    4 more binders at say €10 /ea = €40
    Estimate of 10 specials = €159.90
    Total: €1,319.20+

You could buy a hell of a lot of ST merchandise for that.

I'd really love some of these but those prices.... :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,125 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Yeah I think I'll be picking it up whenever ones I really want come up, bird of prey, Excelsior, defiant and a few others will be must haves! Sure where would I find the space for 70 + of them!

I'm awaiting confirmation from Eaglemoss as to why we are paying 4-5 euro more.

Hmm. you could save about 21cent using parcel motel ;) I was going to get this myself when i seen the price of the first issue, but 15.99 is ridiculous! whatever about a tenner..

Looking again at the list, I've highlighted the ones that I would be interested in.

    ■69 USS Enterprise

There's a run between 30 and 50 where I have little interest in most of the models so I think I'll subscribe for the first 30, get the specials and quit.

I'd happily pay a tenner as they are much larger than the usual Eaglemoss figures. Easons are saying it'll be 17 euro so and there isn't a hope in hell that I'll be paying 17 euro for a Sona'a ship.

I'd pay 17 euro for about 10 of them.

That'll teach you for letting Troi drive :D
At least it's easy to get a cheap replacement of the first issue - you can pretend the first one is the Odyssey.

I want to look at the full list of ships but at the same time I don't want to look at the list and still be surprised when the new ones come out. Still very torn what to do, hate being ripped off. Might subscribe for a while I think, the first few look amazing. The d'deridex is top of my list, probably my favourite ship of all time.

:edit: Ah Issue 2 is €10 and the regular price is €15.99!! Feck that. They ain't worth €16.
