BBC2 and BBC2 HD still have some differences in programming whilst BBC1 is the same in SD and HD (both NI versions). So they've kept the NI channels together (108 and 109).

My HD channels have moved beside the originals

Edit, they were for 2 days, now back to normal :(

Is there any fast way to delete recordings with the horizon box? I've noticed my kids have spongebob on series record, and now there is over 300 recordings of that alone. It's very time consuming to have to delete every individual programme, and I am having those issues most are having with the box freezing.
I've tried deleting everything, but it freezes up on me, and I have to turn off the box and restart.

    Any ideas?

a factory reset will give you the option to delete recordings also, may be worth trying that if the delete all option isnt working for you. menu>Settings>horizon hd+ >Factory reset

Thanks Wabbit Ears, after trying and trying I finally got them all deleted. I went to another series recording and deleted everything from there.

no it's not. Mine changed over in the early hours. Check your settings. Or just unplug it and plug it back in.

I'm not using the Horizon box for broadband or phone, I kept my old modem.
The Horizon box is set up as a wireless client which works fine.
However the box continues to also broadcast its own SSID.
This is really annoying. As the box only has one WiFi card it broadcasts on the same channel as my router causing interference and reduced coverage from my router.
I cannot find any way to disable the SSID being broadcast from the Horizon box.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any way to disable it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭dkane

Here's two screenshots to help explain the issue.
You can see from client.jpg that my router is broadcasting the UPC1XXX8 SSID (I've blanked out some of the SSID name).
The Horizon box is connected as a client.
This is the setup I want.

However from ap.jpg you can see that the Horizon box is also broadcasting UPC2XXXX36. I can't find any way to disable this without totally disabling the WiFi.

Just got the Horizon box yesterday having been with Sky for 12 years, purely to save about €50 per month.

It's early days yet but everything seems to be working fine, no problems with wifi coverage. As mentioned though by other posters the TV guide leaves a lot to be desired and is not a patch on Sky's. Surely it wouldn't be too much of a problem to have a page down feature and the ability to scroll forward by day.

I might be missing the point but can you change enable to disable as displayed in your ap.jpeg..

Failing this, change channel that the horizon box is broadcasting on

from the main TV menu goto settings, Setup home network and then setup the horizon box in join network mode. This should disable it as a wireless access point.

Is not fit for release, have you even used it Seanie? Ridiculously slow, laggy browsing which is the very fundimental of a tv browser. The guide is a shambles. I agree that its very possible future updates will solve most of the problems, but sadly Upc dont have a very good track record when it comes to latency or interfaces in general.
I mean, when they were testing it did someone in upc not go "hang on, this is rEally laggy and slow"? They're supposed to be grown up businessmen. Its embarrasing that they dont cop it.

been in development for over 8 yrs and still not right wouldnt hold my breath about it in the future, I think they are expecting too much out of one box.

If I disable the WiFi it turns off the WiFi card altogether. This does stop the SSID from being broadcast but it also disconnects the Horizon box from my network.

I cannot change the channel. There is only one WiFi card in the box so when it is connected to my home network it broadcasts on the same channel as my router.
I can set the Horizon box up as a router and move it to a different channel but then it is not connected to my network so I might as well just turn the WiFi off.
from the main TV menu goto settings, Setup home network and then setup the horizon box in join network mode. This should disable it as a wireless access point.
I have tried doing this through the on-screen interface. It has the same effect. It connects to my network but continues to broadcast it's own SSID also.

Got my box today and so far so good apart from a couple of freeze ups. One thing annoying me though is that it seems to make high pitch noise which is quite irritating. Any else have this?

I had this with my old box, it was either the disk or fan spinning and that vibration being amplified. I stuck a piece of cardboard under one corner to raise it slightly and that did the trick

Sorry if I'm missing something but ticking the "hide" box beside the 36 will hide the SSID from being broadcast, but it is still active

Yeah the hide button will hide the SSID but not disable it. Will not help reduce the interference.

Has the new magical update that others have trailed/currently trialling been released yet? Does anyone know when it's due to be released? Thanks.

If you have a HTC One with Android 4.2.2, there is a HTC app called TV. You set it up with all your Horizon channels, it shows you what's on now on all channels and you touch the program on the phone and it automatically changes the Channel for you on the Horizon box.
Loads of other functionality such as setting reminders etc. Just playing around with it now.
Also have it programmed to control TV as well.
No more waiting on UPC to develop an Android app anymore.

I live in an area of apartment buildings... Do I need to say more?

And yes; i can only switch off my own two access points.
That's the reason I switched over to the 5 GHz. band (a-band) Only three of them over there including my own
