restrictions can be lifted without compromising the health of the elderly with underlying conditions , both us and them will need to avoid each other however

those who work in the nursing homes should have had their wages trebled back in march but they should have been made to live on site for three months , no different to oil rig workers , no body different goes in or out

    Sounds great in theory.
However, where would all these staff sleep for the three months.

Have been in a few nursing homes and wouldn't have thought they had enough room to accommodate an extra 40-50 people sleeping there each night.

i imagine making quick temporary night time accomodation available for fifty people is not like putting a man on the moon, all you need is the will and the cost would be peanuts compared to the economic loss of shutting down everything

they should have put a ring of steel around the elderly ( including the nursing homes ) and left the economy open for the rest of us , any elderly people who ignored advice not to mix locally etc would only have themselves to blame , my mother is seventy one but in good health , i nor any of my sisters havent seen her in person in nearly three months and all her shopping has been delivered

Huge numbers of elderly live with children/grandchildren though.

He is a completely reprehensible human being, makes me sick listening to the far right crap he comes out with.

It was like a tell in poker, the less convinced he was about what he was saying the higher the voice went.

He was so lucky the cops didn't show up he probably would have being choked or shot to death.

    Always like this.

Man of the people, reduce the distancing to help taxi and mini-bus drivers etc.

He's just trying to sound good for local constituents and not thinking nationally.

Thank you for identifying this man for me.

It was absolutely maddening to hear him on the radio pretending that he was impartial regarding 45 and that he was a bastion of fairness.

The dissonance was infuriating. At one point, he suggested that Trump's attack on Joe Scarborough was somehow "a lesson" on free speech.

    Utterly contemptible.

In fairness the fact that Drumpf is such a shockingly bad president it's shooting fish in a barrel territory.

It's almost as if it didn't happen with the lack of commentary from either print or radio.

Probably out of fear of being branded a "racist" by our moral superiors. There is no denying that the protests are a worthy cause (although you could argue that the cause is totally unwarranted in this country), but that does not absolve them of criticism for blatant breaching of social distancing rules - which most others are complying with. Media et al. need to grow a pair.

Pat has gone down in my estimation in recent weeks, maybe being confined to home and not mixing with others is making him loose his sharpness. For a rational thinker with an engineering background I didn't think he would be so fearful of covid. He seems to have lost his ability to look at things from a critical view.
He goes on wild hysterical rants about social distancing cyclists, runners and non wearing of face masks and then not a mention of yesterday's protest. Sorry Pat, thats not good enough.

The station overall has gone way down quality wise. Many of their presenters are all too preoccupied with virtue signalling. As you say you could at least rely on Pat to be objective but he truly has gone soft

Ciara Kelly's show just now was basically 2 hours of talk about how racist Ireland is and how that tied in with yesterday's protest.
She promised at the start there'd be talk later in the show about the social distancing aspect and that parade yesterday but it amounted to one question to Green Councillor Hazel Chu about people travelling from outside the 5km limit to the protest and not a word about the 2m distancing on the march itself.

With the situation going on in the world, we should be glad of organisations or people which are trying to promote the angle of equality, empathy, evidence.

There is also the alternative of Fox News, info-wars, Breitbart, the Spectator, the Telegraph etc.

How anyone can look at what is happening and blame people who are trying to advocate that division and a failure to listen to science or evidence id the wrong path seems very odd.

Trump used Tear Gas on American citizens who were peacefully protesting so he could perform a reality TV type photo-op yesterday. That, and the statements and tone he made when on a conference call with state governors is being talked about around the world given the office of the person doing it.
You think civil war breaks out on a whim? Or within a couple of hours? All this is moving a country towards armed conflict amongst its own citizens and is a massive talking point.

do you think any americans will hear anything about the march in dublin yesterday ?, americans dont look for or get to hear stories like that from abroad

anyone who thinks they are influencing policy in america by what they partook in yesterday is full of intellectual conceit

If some folk in the US are bent on fomenting a quasi civil war, their minds are already made up. Changing your profile pic on FB or turning out at a march somewhere isn't going to make one blind bit of a difference.
The US govt, state administrations, police departments and Americans are going to have work this one out for themselves.

Just taking it back to the thread topic...Pat Kenny's radio show
Pat on an extended anti Trump crusade on today's show. The show was around 80% Trump bashing.

I've always been an admirer of Pat's broadcasting but when you start using CNN (especially Don Lemon) as your main source in reporting a news event...as Pat did yesterday...you're losing your credibility as an objective broadcaster.
In fairness the fact that Drumpf is such a shockingly bad president it's shooting fish in a barrel territory.

Fair enough...but I don't listen to Pat for that.
