Obviously had something to bargain with. Can't be that flippant about negotiations with the regulator unless you've one over on himself or his superiors.

Whens Lenihan making an appearance in these conversations?

Was thinking the exact same. Read a report saying there was thousands of people at a pro life march. People would want to get their priorities in order. More pressing issues here other than this abortion nonsense.

the abortion issue is a deliberate smoke screen

Even if one does not share the motivation of such a protest it would be wrong to underestimate the seriousness of the conviction behind it.

Will the next person interviewing Drumm ask him:

On either the weeks before or even the night before the issuing of the blanket bank guarantee in September 2008 did he or Sean Fitzpatrick ever say that Anglo Irish Bank was an insolvent mire of a bank, that if included in the blanket guarantee it had the capability to destroy Irish financial independence, impoverish a generation and ruin the country for the next 20 years? At any point did he say directly to either Cowen, Lenihan, the central bank or Cardiff that as an patriotic Irishman I (Drumm) believe its better to close Anglo Irish, pay every depositor 100k (the revised deposit guarantee) and burn everybody else???

Its a very simple question please answer it David Drumm. And stop today's interview nonsense.

Did he need to say anything? Poxy little bank worth €200m with debts of €60bn? (estimated figure at the time)
''the future bad debts of Anglo Irish, which has a loan book of €80 billion.''

Nothing would surprise me at this stage! Keep your eyes peeled for any sneaky bailouts being snuck through under cover of this stuff!

Can't see them allowing tapes of any politician be publicised.
    They are a protected species.

    You can say that again.

Its a dirty filthy cartel and they all have ammo to fire at each other if anyone of them gets implicated. Kind of a "if Im going down im taking all of you with me" type thing

The top civil servants, politicians, executive level bankers etc...., a large portion of them are rotten to the core. One beautifully intricate web of corruption.

It would actually make an entertaining conspiracy theory if it wasn't so close to the truth :(

A massive purge is needed but it will never happen.

    I don't know.

Is Drumm just looking for sympathy, or is there a glimmer of truth in today's allegations that investigation into other banks, civil servants, and politicians is warranted?

Is he possibly ready to spill what he knows, or is it just a deflection exercise?

How much was Dukes being paid for doing f**k all?

might be just a shot across their bows, "i go down, you all go down".

They should all go down. Politicians, bankers and civil servants. Anyone involved should be tried and convicted.

I didn't listen to todays tapes yet so I don't know what's on them yet. I did read on twitter or journal.ie that Drumm believes that he's being used as scapegoat to reflect away attention. Do not under estimate the greed, selfishness, dishonesty and nastiness of what some people are capable of. If one fcuks up and there's another to pin that muck on, great for them. Physchopaths, they are called and they lack all empathy towards others and can live very happily without a conscience.

Possibly, but not in the taxpayers' interest.

That had occurred to me, alright.

I can't help hoping that he'll feel "victimized" enough to pull down the whole house of cards, though!

True. Not divulging the existence of these tapes to previous enquiries "because I wasn't asked!", is, at best, a pathetic excuse, imo.

At the moment he and his ilk can live without a conscience but as time marches on and the great rush slows down. Then the ghosts appear and the tears start to fall. It happens them all.

People are all offended with the attitude of these jokers but their attitude was typical of the general mindset of this country during those boom years. "I see you got a new car, a fcuk it sure someone will pay for it" was a very common phrase.

I'm not aware of everyone else in the country trying to con the state out of billions of euro.

    Must have missed that bit.

I Didn't say people were conning the state out of billions. It was the borrow borrow ah shur it'll be paid sometime attitude that many people including Drumm sold to people, including themselves.

the way i see it all was based on just that sort of underlying attitude...the only real difference was that the bankers (and politicians) were also criminals without a conscience and they really should have known better, that would have been part of their jobs, while the regular folks who bought into the hype were simply uninformed and short-sighted in their decision-making or just plain stupid…

No, it wasn't a common phrase. Maybe with you and your circle but not where I am.

Anglo went to the state for a bailout. They played the government like fiddles. The tapes revealed dispicable disrespect and contempt towards the people that were bailing them out. Speak for yourself if that's the way you treat people who help you.

They werent "helping" anglo. They were covering their own arses because the lines between minister, banker and financial regulator had become very blurred indeed.

I remember a few years ago seeing a report that listed countried according to the amount of corruption. Ireland was quite high up. It was above Italy which surprised me. I thought a country with the mafia & vatican bank would be worse than us.

There's no way Ireland ranks above Italy in corruption stakes, the underworld in Italy has huge influence on politics and society. As much as we bitch and moan about FF and FG they're not in the same league as these guys.

It's much more ingrained and sinister, it doesn't compare to cute 'hoors' and rogue bankers. Try living in Naples or Palermo for instance.

You really can't beat strong leadership......oh who am I kidding, it sounds more like a warning to Drumm. Of course he "should" face questioning, but we hope he stays away......

    Strong governance my arse!
