Spies off Kolisi on. Alberts to 8.

This is my first choice BOK back row

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,954 ✭✭✭LeeroyJones

To be honest Leeroy its much better for the game Leinster did not sign him IMO. He has everything in his game...if he can just keep doing the basics simply he be in the Boks for certain when everyone is fully fit.

That's why I wanted him! Long Bok career ahead of him.

Good thinking with the thread btw!

I hate to argue with Matthew but Louw has been fantastic in this match.

He really is just top class...people may disagree but he is the edge to a pack of monsters.

Man you need to get that space bar sorted. It's 42 - 23 to SA with 6 minutes left to play

    What a score by Louw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Great performance by Louw but from the Tuilagi red the game descended into a bit of a farce with Manu Samoa not interested in playing any sort of percentages or defending at all, but did a great lineout move I'll be sure to put into practice myself.

Samoa after 2 great performances were brutal in defense.

Well, on the highlights that looked a quality match by the Boks. Even Morne Steyn got a try! I must extend my congratulations to Bryan Habana on 50 test tries, one of the great wingers of the modern era, and now 5th on the all-time try list. Should be a closely fought 4N this year.

It has to be said Habana has been a class act for the Boks for a long time. Some times I wonder if he has played with the other big 2 down under how good he could have been. He is very good under the high ball as he is defensively. The whole package.

I noticed how often Le Roux came into the line and really did add an extra dimension to the Boks attack. However his tactical kicking was poor and defensively he still has to be posed a question. The judgement is still out regarding how well he can do against the best teams in the World especially when he comes up against Carter and Dagg.

There still can be so more potential to be brought into that Bok squad. For me Basson is solid pick but that's it. JP Pieterson is in Japan this summer and he would have had that position locked down for the 4 nations. I not sure will Houghaard come back in for Basson when fit but I think that is most likely. Frans Steyn is hugely overweight but if some one can get in his head and slim down a few stone he be right back in that Bok first team at first centre I feel but his form has just gone off a clif since he left after 07 to go to the World Cup.

Flip Van Der Merve had a great game yesterday and if he can eradicate those stupid penalties he gives away he should be the partner for Etzebeth for a long time to come. Still though Botha has loads to offer the Boks and I believe he should be in the 22 some where.

There is still huge questions for this Boks team to answer, conceding all those points yesterday still does not bode well for there defensive patterns and the scrum is a worry with the Beast struggling. Having said that with Bismark to come back in looking sharp. A proper second row partnership found, the back row sorted and improved performance from JJ Englebrecht and Le Roux there was a lot more positive than negative yesterday.

How he got away with this is unreal . The bok prop certainly didn't think it was accidental, and lost the plot big time.

I have to agree, after watching the replay I just can't see how it could have been accidental, because if u watch it he actually grabs Strauss's testicles twice. One of the lowest acts I have ever seen on a rugby pitch.

Yep and then he more or less runs away. Was a fan of the Samoan's but some of the carry on at that match has turned me off them . Must also say congrats to JDV after nearly getting decapitated gets up immediately, and shakes Tualigis hand . Anyone else would want to knock the block off Tualigi.

    Spies, 6’4 and 17 stone
    Louw, 6’2 and 17 stone 9lb
    Etzebeth, 6’8 and 18 stone 5lb
Van Der Merwe, 6’6 and 18 stone 6lb
Jannie Du Plessis, 6’2 and 19 stone
    Strauss, 6’1 and 16 stone
    Beast, 6’1 and 18 stone 1lb

Spies ruled out for the rest of the year due to torn bicep. Might now give a chance for Kolisi to nail down his place.

Also Duane Vermulen is also out for the year. Lappies from the Cheetahs might now get a chance on the bench, it would be great for him to get a shot some time this year especially with Spies, Burger and Vermulen all likely to come back next year even if Burger is a little long in the tooth at this stage of his career.

Another guy people should look out for his Paul Jordann of the Sharks in center and also Robert Ebershom of the Cheetahs. Both around 22 both highly promising.

Blessing in disguise, or maybe not even in disguise. One of the most over-rated players in world rugby is Spies.

Yes I hate to say it about anyone, but I'm glad he's out. I wonder if Kolisi will be big enough for Meyer. Arno Botha could be in with a good shout, and he's a Bull so that makes him twice as likely to get picked.

There are plenty of others I'd like to see dropped too though, Jannie Du Plessis at the top of the list.

I am not sure Spies is as bad as people say. He certainly looks like Tarzan and play more like Jane at times. He is a fantastic line out operator one of the best. He is physical at breakdown time but he needs the ball in his hands more often.

Kolisi is no small man he about 6 2 and quite muscular from what i have seen. He would defo help out Alberts if he was to move to 8 in terms of physically dominating the opposition. The Boks have always done well when they had a well balanced back row. Smith and Burger were so good at dominating there opposite number especially Smith that it really is key that they get the back row balance right.

Du Plessis has really struggled he cant last 60 mins. There is a bad shortage of tight heads in South Africa. I am not sure the Beast and himself add much come scrum time. Obviously when Bismark comes back in that makes a huge difference as he is built like brick and is the best scrummager in the game at hooker with Hore. They really need those Cheetahs boys to step up.

The Cheetahs scrum has easily been the best SA one in the S15. Meyer seems to think Oosthuizen can play TH however, but he struggles come scrum time even at LH. At TH there is a massive scarcity and that the seemingly very average Adriaanse is probably the best option. Then again Meyer likes his man mountains and he's under 6 feet and barely 18 stone. Nyakane should probably be the LH as he's in better form. Oosthuizen is an excellent carrier and quite agile for such a massive guy but his scrummaging has to improve. Again, Nyakane is only 5 foot 10 and 17 and a half stone but he's a very good player.

In Botha's favour he got the nod at 7 for the Italy game and did pretty well so he's favoured there in Meyer's eyes.
