Any chance of Lions 10, Boshoff, getting a game do ye think?"

I be very surprised now as we build up for the World Cup.

De Villers out for 8 weeks.

This means a completely new midfield partnership now going forward for the June test and a new captain.

On a side note....great photo here from the game yesterday.

How do the saffas feel about JdV being out? He's a favourite of mine but Frans Steyn is a decent replacement.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing what the others have to offer however he is a rock in defense something the others have yet to prove at international level.

    The new captain?

Why not Bizzy? Admittedly Matfield has more experience but BdP is undeniably the best player in the world in his position, which for me, is important. If all the SA locks were fit, would Matfield still start?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Matfield can't be captain as he wouldn't start, all fit. BduP is the obvious choice, captain of the table toppers and the team's best player and the best in the world at his position.

  • Registered Users Posts: 924 ✭✭✭Emperor1989

I am yet to be convinced he is Captain material like John Smit.

Lads Matfield is rolling back the years if he can give 50 good mins he is guarenteed starter with Etzebeth at 4. With Flip/Botha/Du Toit in the wings.

Frans Malherbe (prop), Schalk Burger (loose forward), Willem Alberts (loose forward), S'bura Sithole (centre/wing), Frans Steyn (utility back), Juan de Jongh (centre), Johan Goosen (fly-half), Bismarck du Plessis (hooker) and Duane Vermeulen (number eight). Jean de Villiers (knee), Scarra Ntubeni (foot), Chiliboy Ralepelle (knee), Frik Kirsten (neck), Pieter-Steph du Toit (knee), Franco van der Merwe (ankle), Arno Botha (knee), Pierre Spies (bicep), Louis Schreuder (hand), Pat Lambie (bicep), Gio Aplon (elbow), and Jaque Fourie (ankle)

Springbok squad for June Tests: Willem Alberts, Bakkies Botha, Schalk Brits, Schalk Burger, Marcell Coetzee, Damian De Allende, Lodewyk de Jager, Juan de Jongh, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Fourie du Preez, JJ Engelbrecht, Johan Goosen, Bryan Habana, Cornal Hendricks, Francois Hougaard, Zane Kirchner, Siya Kolisi, Willie le Roux, Francois Louw, Victor Matfield, Teboho 'Oupa' Mohoje, Tendai Mtawarira, Lwazi Mvovo, Coenie Oosthuizen, Ruan Pienaar, JP Pietersen, Jan Serfontein, S'bura Sithole, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Frans Steyn, Morné Steyn, Flip van der Merwe, Marcel van der Merwe, Duane Vermeulen, Callie Visagie.

Poor selections are Kirchner and Kolisi. Great to see Bakkies Botha back and very interesting that Juan Smith requested not to be picked due to a niggling injury(maybe a sign he has called time)?

Brussow also failed to make the squad....which must a huge blow for him.

Did you see yesterday's match? He was immense and hasn't had a bad game in a while. I'm not too eager to see Visagie or Mvovo in 15 for the boks anytime soon so Kirchner must be there to cover Le Roux.

SP Marais of the Sharks is a better player than Kirchner and even the dodgy Jaco Taute of the Stormers is better. I think Kirchner does a very very solid job at club level but the Boks don't need him at 15. If you must play him give him a position on the wing. He gives no direction at 15 om terms of attack.

A Brilliant piece on Schalk Burger

Matfield captain as I predicted.....was a very easy decision for Meyer.

He commands more respect that any other player in that team.

Can see Meyer picking something like this team below....however I am unsure about Jannie Du Plessis starting....think he might be given a rest.

    1. Beast
    2. Bismark
    3. JDP
    4. Flip Van Der Merve
    5. Victor Matfield
    6. Louw
    7. Alberts
    8. Vermulen
    9. Du Preez
    10. Steyn
    11. Habana
    12. Serfontein / Steyn if fit
    13. JJ Englebreht
    14. JPP
    15. Le Roux

South Africa: 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Cornal Hendricks, 13 JP Pietersen, 12 Frans Steyn, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Victor Matfield (c), 4 Bakkies Botha, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Bismarck du Plessis, 1 Tendai Mtawarira
Replacements: 16 Schalk Brits, 17 Gurthro Steenkamp, 18 Coenie Oosthuizen, 19 Flip van der Merwe, 20 Schalk Burger, 21 Fourie du Preez, 22 Johan Goosen, 23 Lwazi Mvovo

    23 for the weekend.

Very surprising that he has picked the 7s star Cornal Hendricks at winger.....goes completely against Meyer thinking previously. I wonder where other hands at play here?. Either way its great to see him and he has been fantastic this year so far.

Really not sure why they are playing Bakkies, surely he deserves a rest ahead of the Rugby Championship? if he is going to play at all?. Its a very strong team and a very very strong bench. Hopefully Goosen and Du Preez gets on with 30 to go.

It's a World XV this Saturday. Then two tests against Wales, followed by one against Scotland.

It's kind of back to the future. Looks like a decent set-up for 10-man power rugby with dead-eye dick Steyn or Steyn. Back 3 could be deadly though, Le Roux, Hendricks and Habana is classy.

4 wingers in the backs, and the only "centre" in the 23 has played 10 mostly this year. In any case it's just a mickey mouse match. Bakkies doesn't need rest right now, he had a fairly long layoff with injury at Toulon and hasn't played that much.

Yes it is, but after the final test last year in the Rugby Championship we saw how the Boks could fling it. Now they didn't win but there was some huge growth in there attacking game. Its a shame that he has just picked power over guile in the center's. Jan Serfontein should be starting, its a no brainer.

The JPP pick after a few hours reflection is horrific, what is Meyer doing when he has JJ and Serfontein waiting in the wings to play. Mind boggles.

EDIT: Yes it is, Saturday will truly be a sumptuous feast of rugby

I think the Boks have a big edge up front....they have a huge pack out for this one with plenty to come off the bench. However the World XV could be very dangerous with they sling the ball with that back line with inexpierenced bok center pairing at this level.

    Will be a fascinating watch.

Baby Boks look very good despite using 4 players in the last week.
