    I have two,

Some schools in the UK no longer teach kids the nursery rhyme "Ba Ba Black Sheep". They have been told instead to sing "Ba Ba Rainbow Sheep" !!

And in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, the "Mother and Child" spaces have been renamed "People with Babies"

The world has gone mad I tell you.

I think the important point here is SOME - not all

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The important word is NONE. NO schools have "been told not to teach Baa-Baa Black sheep". SOME schools have CHOSEN to vary the words.

But because some people can't call people whatever they like anymore, it's political correctness gone mad/you couldn't make it up/etc etc et-bleedin-cetera.

To be honest, I think it was a bit silly calling them Mother and Child spaces. Sometimes men do the shopping too, apparently.

You are implying that some of the posters are knuckle dragging neanderthals because they do not accept your concept of the world. That's a bit un-pc isn't it?

(not to mention going off-topic, attacking the poster etc. etc).

I'd appreciate if you kept them in your mouth in future.

Oh yes Wikipedia. Known for its accuracy and factual information.

    It actually is.

Wikipedia being particularly inaccurate compared to more traditional and 'reliable' sources is a myth.
a 2005 investigation in Nature showed that the science articles they compared came close to the level of accuracy of Encyclopædia Britannica and had a similar rate of "serious errors".

This thread is called 'the most politically correct thing you've ever heard' but for the last 100 odd posts it's been nothing more than petty bickering about black sheep, rainbow sheep and wiki this and that.

Any chance of some anecdotes of peoples experiences of political correctness gone mad or would that be too much to ask.

The post about sheep was a personal anecdote (allegedly) about political correctness gone mad. It's when it was pointed out that it was bollocks was when all the trouble started.

Actually all the trouble started when the writer of the 'hokey pokey' died and was being put into the coffin. They put his left leg in.............

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles over here and in the UK as "Ninja" was seen as too violent of a word.

Also, they didn't change Dennis The Menace to be a more friendly looking chap?

two things: one, given that they had a huge irish presence with massive crossover of people it wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation

Two, if youre going to make political correctness part of your policy (which they did) then it's not unreasonable for all of your employees to expect that their cultural norms be factored in, not just a segment who meet an ideological benchmark of been capable of being victims of discrimination.

Now that’s PC gone mad. You can’t expect a company to be aware of the particular regional slang of two lads. However, one would expect them to know about US slang which is already well-known over here from American TV and film. Also, they were the ones travelling, so the onus was on them to adjust.

What's the origin of this? Is it even real?

If you mean the differences between the American and English Dennises, there’s actually no relationship between the two. They were created independently at almost the exact same time in a bizarre coincidence.

No, I meant The Beano's Dennis.

He was redesigned to be nicer looking and be friendly to the likes of Walter The Softy.

    Really?

You have kids committing suicide because they are being bullied, and you think its ok to have a kids comic thats about bullying?

He’s clearly a bully, and not glamorising bullying. He gets his comeuppance as often as he wins. The characters in The Beano are exaggerated versions of real-life types. Dennis the Menace stories feature bullying because they’re set primarily in a school, but I don’t think any children would be inspired to bully by Dennis the Menace if they didn’t already feel like doing so. And I think most children are smart enough to realise that it’s only a comic and has no influence on real life.

He was a bully but he never got away with it, plus all the characters were exaggerations of stereotypes in the likes of The Beano and The Dandy.

Dennis being the brutish little shìt and, his nemesis, Walter being the opposite; An OTT lick-arse who would frequently try to screw Dennis over.

You are making a lot of assumptions there.

The facts are.......its about kids that bully. The hero of the comic is a kid that bullies.

But ya know.......its ok......becuase as you say, kids are emotionally mature enough to understand that it doesnt set out to glamorise bullying and that its an exaggeration of real life.......a typical six year old is on top of all that stuff.

Don't see the problem with denis being a bully, In life some people are just dicks. I think sheltering children from reality is a bad thing and will lead to bigger trouble when they come into contact with bullies.

I grew up reading Dennis, from as young as I could remember. I also had a huge backlog of The Beano / The Dandy comics going back to 1980 that belonged to the brother.

I was young and I knew the difference between comic fiction and real life as well as the fact that bullying wasn't the right thing to do. If a kid can't distinguish the difference between right and wrong at that age then the failure is at the parents.

Plus, there was never glamourising of bullying. Dennis always paid the price for his actions (including being beaten with a slipper by his father)

I don't know whether this is considered PC or just the tree hugging, white, English do gooders fighting for minorities causes but....

About fifteen years ago I was working with two guys from Bradford, Yorkshire. If any of you don't know anything about Bradford it is that it has a HUGE asian community.

Anyway, there was this one particular street which the toilets in the bathrooms were pointing towards Mecca and was considered an insult when the Muslims were having a sh!t.
The loony dogooders and the fu@kin' PC brigade played up so much that they forced the local council to reconfigure all the said bathrooms so not to face Muhammad when parking their breakfast.

Britain is fu@kin' ruined because of this bending over backwards to appease foreigners and immigrants.

When I read the Beano as a kid, Dennis The Menace did little else but torture people, yet in my day kids didn't top themselves in anything near the epidemic proportions that seems to be the case these days.
I put it to you that a comic book character is waaaaaaay down the list of social and enviornmental factor that contribute to the soaring suicide rate.

This is one of the problems with current thinking on a variety of problems, from suicide to alcohol abuse, the belief that the tackling perception rather then the root of the problem will solve things.
Rather then addressing the breakdown of the nuclear family plus the agressive destruction of the concept of community and colectivism that gives people a sense of belonging and support, while at the same time promoting a radical, consumerist driven, agressive type individualism that leaves people alienated are it seems issues too big to tackle and and of course policies too beloved by fabian socialists to address, so instead we ban the Beano.
Meanwhile suicide rates continue to soar.

Being an actual engineer, I hate this cheapening of the term. Places like Germnay and Italy have a protected status for using the title engineer in the same way as doctor.
Yes, but in Italy any graduate can use the nominative prefix Doctore.
