Would love to see Lawes throw one of his famed "slightly late" tackles into retallick....... and see what hell fire would come after :)

never going to happen. sure Lawes only throws late ones at backs

little bit of motivation for the English lads ahead of the game this weekend

    http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3562_9335923,00.html

Its cringe-worthingly embarrassing if you ask me. Especially as Michael Laws is a NZ politician. But hardly dispels the notion of an insular rugby setup downunder.

Unless you beat them you have to take this supposed lack of respect off them. I suppose the other thing is that he was only coming into camp, I think, and so wouldn't have done much, if any, prep for the England game.

The ABs now have a dedicated opposition coach whose only job is to study the opposition and report back to Hansen and co. Lawes is one of the world's premier locks IMO, so I just find it a bit ridiculous that Retallick can't name either him or Launchbury.

In fact it's the usual story back home where Press & fans alike have already written off England. It's a pity England start the series on the back foot with injuries and abstentions, it could have been a close run thing, but I can't see them winning the 1st test, even if NZ do traditionally start the year slowly.

I seem to recall Luke Romano saying something similar about POC before the game last November. Romano withdraw from the team before the match due injury or sickness though.

It does come across as a bit arrogant and does make me cringe a bit. However I think a big factor is that NH rugby isn't really followed down-under. Also as far as prepping for the opposition, the ABs probably don't bother learning their real names. I wouldn't be surprised if they assigned nicknames to all the opposition players and use those in their team meetings/video sessions.

By many accounts Retallick wouldn't be trusted to tie his own shoelaces so I'm not sure him not knowing a few names is that much of an insult.

Considering the form Lawes is in at the moment that might turn out to be a very foolish "mistake" for Retallick to make

I think his performances do the talking. Serious player.

head to head i know who my money would be on ;)

Not the first time Retallick has done this, about 30 seconds into this video.....says he swapped shirts with his Irish opposition but can't name him.

In fairness, he doesn't come across as the brightest so maybe that's just how he is rather than an arrogance thing!!

I wasn't questioning his ability, I was commenting on his intelligence.

Regardless of whether it's an honest mistake or mind games, who cares? Retallick is hardly a house hold name to be fair.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,150 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

I'm fairly sure it's not mind games anyway :P

It's not too hard to imagine Brodie imitating David Tua with an "O for awesome"...

In fairness, he's a damn fine lock, even if not a household name in the Kenny residence.

Yeah he's awesome. I really admire Messam for sticking around after he got shafted in 2011 for the underwhelming Adam Thomson but Kaino is just NZs answer to Stephen Ferris. We'll see how he goes at 8 though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,975 ✭✭✭Yeah_Right

So happy to see Kaino back. Have to admit that I had a bit of a man-crush on him the last couple of years he was an All Black.

I'd say Parisse will be more likely to do it

I wonder if Hosea will manage to push his way back into the AB's squad in time for the RWC

He's announced that he'll returning in February, but obviously he's got the likes of Savea, Smith, Pitau and Jane to contend with.

He looked dangerous for the Barbarians last week but then again that was against a pretty weak English side so maybe not particularly difficult to look good.

His main issue was always work rate, he could easily be a total non-entity in a match. But probably still NZs best specialist 11 after Savea. Id say he would be a good chance for a RWC squad spot and the Highlanders would definitely have him back.

Covers 13 at a decent level too.

This Saturday, DC will play at flyhalf...for Southbridge.

    :)

    Hopefully, he still has it!

Is he back for the RC?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,975 ✭✭✭Yeah_Right

Is he back for the RC?

Yes he is. Available for the Crusaders for the end of the Super XV and the the ABs for the rest of the year.

    Or until injured again

    I'm sure Southbridge's opponents will be delighted . . . .

Like BOD playing UCD 2nds or something.

Hosea Gear is all power not much else. Just don't like his attitude, hopping countries the whole time making as much money.

I be more interested in that winger playing with the under 20's in a terrible team and being fantastic every match. He plays for the blues....socks around his ankles.
