Superb athlete and rugby player but there are several I'd have ahead of him as a scrum half in the league. Doesn't dictate things, can be headless (the tap and go penalty in the first half was madness in a knock out game) and his pass isn't too hot.

He'd be the ultimate "impact" player though!

Hopefully the injury count wont be too bad, but a game that hard will stand to Leinster

One of the most physical games of the season there tonight, Glasgow are playing unreal rugby, just needs a bit of tempering and theyll be a big threat in all competitions next year

Leinster very impressive at times again though, backrow were all outstanding although we were fortunate they lost Josh Strauss.

A disappointing crowd but plenty of atmosphere especially last half hour

Anyone who wasnt there tonight should be barred from the Final ticket lottery ;-)

I just can't get over the fact that he's only a bit over 13 stone. When he plays, the way he powers through the fringes and breaks tackles suggests he'd be a stone heavier at least. Only a little fella.

Think there's a bit of fixture overload at play.

In the last few weeks, we've had Biarritz, Ospreys and Glasgow in successive weekends and will have Stade and Ulster in the next two weekends. Five must-win home games in five weekends.

That's a big commitment from the fans in terms of money and time, as well as motivation for trekking to the RDS every week, it's only natural that one of the games would suffer in terms of attendance.

Yep, pretty simple really. Biarritz at home was a big European game, Ospreys was covered by season tickets and 2 extra cost games possibly up coming along with a lot of people having both Amlin and Heineken cup final tickets for next week.

You always see a drop off when there are a few home games in a row as people have other things on and can't make everything, the addition that this was a extra cost game in the middle of a big run of games just meant a lot of people missed it and hoped for the best...

Lots of Holy Communions on as well so people would be at them during the daytime and might not be able to also head to the games.
There were a good few empty seats around me in the Grandstand but they're usually filled with families with young kids and I've always found they're rarely at the 7.45 Saturday games, as was the case tonight.

Yes, I'll give my eye teeth to get my paws on a ticket for the final. Very tricky two weeks coming up, but I trust Joe to get the right squad in the right place ar the right time.

Really enjoyed that game. Glasgow really put everything into that... Some of the offloading was very risky stuff. Going to have to watch more of them next year.

Fair play to Leinster to come through that.

Our rugby is so sexy it should be 18 rated, Super Rugbyesque.

Out there looking like the Crusaders in their pomp, i was half expecting hear McCaw and Carter's names being called it was so beautiful.

Glasgow matches to be played at 10pm next season and on PPV £14.95 #rugbyporn.

You're mad I'm not paying that to watch 15 Munster men getting buttsexed again.

That was one of the toughest matches I've seen in a long time. Glasgow have come on in leaps and bounds this season; from being knocked out of the HEC with one win to coming within a couple of points of getting to the league final.

Gregor Townsend has worked some magic there, who would have predicted that a year ago?

The sooner the new scrum laws come in the better, it really has become a lottery. You don't often hear Joe Schmidt make comments about the decisions, but he was clearly very frustrated with the refereeing of that aspect of the game.

Not to take the gloss off the last try, but I though the last pass was forward; not by much but the pass was delivered on the Glasgow side of the 5m line and collected on the Leinster side.

Yes, very tough match. I agree about that last try, but Glasgow were immense. They really have become a very good side, and I actually thought they deserved to win. However, while the score reflected the closeness of the match, the gap could easily have been bigger.....two kicks hit the post - Glasgow's went over, Leinster's didn't.

It was a great night - fabulous atmosphere. Really looking forward to the final, and if I don't get a ticket in the lottery, I'll kill someone.

Will tickets for the final go on general sale at all?

I very much doubt it. That'll only happen if one or other lot of supporters don't take up their 9k allocation, and I don't see that happening.

I know people are complaining about the empty seats, but from my watching it on the TV, it seemed that what they lacked in numbers they made up for in noise. Unbelievable support and especially in the second half where there didn't seem to be a let up in the cheering at all.

I think the atmosphere was the best we've had in the RDS for some time.

I imagine Leinster STHs will take up their allocation. Will Ulster's? Are they also doing 2 tickets per STH?

Prawn sandwich brigade who catch up on their week at work instead of watching the game must have stayed at home. I was critical of the attendance last night and sill am, but credit where it is due the atmosphere was very good

Eh no, as I stated earlier, we're in Communion season so many people are having to balance attending matches with family events such as these.
Five weeks in a row is a big commitment for anyone with kids.
All the empty seats around me last night are usually occupied by families and they are rarely there for the Saturday night games.
My wife and I have a baby yet we have managed to attend 3 of this group of 5 games due to extremely understanding grandparents babysitting for us.
Not everyone is as lucky as us.

You mean the ones who were there for the Biarritz match? We had a group in front of us who had several bottles of wine, drunk from glasses with stems, accompanied by baguettes with salami and parma ham....I don't think they watched the match at all, but hell, they amused us no end! But if one of them gets a ticket instead of me in the lottery....now that'll be a different matter! Last night was full of pumped up genuine supporters - mighty!

My biggest worry about increasing the capacity of the RDS is that we don't have the numbers for it yet.

Did I mention anything about kids? No. I said the people who come for the occasion and not the game were missing which can create a better atmosphere. Quite hard to cheer for any team when the people beside you are talking about work. I know myself, never bringing two of my mates to a Connacht game again after how embarrassed I felt during the Ospreys game this year

Funnily enough I was reading a book called Soccernomics last night and it was talking about this. New stadiums can mean increased attendances with Sunderland being the example when they moved to the Stadium of Light even when they were in the Championship then.

The facilities just have to be good though

5 weeks in a row isn't quite right either as the last two games, the Amlin and Rabo final, will be pretty hard to get tickets for.

Yes there'll be a STH draw but alot of people won't be able to get tickets in these. Ulster, I'd imagine, will take up their full allocation of tickets for the Rabo final which will be the first time an opposing team in a Rabo final in the RDS will have done.

I'd rather a seat be filled by someone talking about work, while drinking wine and eating a prawn filled baguette than no one in said seat at all.

Talk about being self-conscious. Perhaps enjoy the game instead of worrying about who's sitting beside you.

As an aside, this thread is in danger of veering off into a "I'm a better fan than others" rathole.

Well there was the move from Donnybrook to the RDS which worked out well too but there was a bit of an untapped market there already.

Nowadays I'm not so sure. Plus there is so many games during the season where the attendance sounds great but it doesn't count the actual amount of people at the game.

I thought the atmosphere was poor last night. That said I sit in the south stand which is always totally dead anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

I honestly don't get this obsession that we have about what others are eating and drinking at games. As if your drinking an over priced pint of beer and a greasy hot dog, some how makes you a better fan than those that brought their own food & booze. Live and let live I say !

Anyway, I'll take them any day of the week over the tossers who start to stand up from their seats, from about oh.. the 30th minute of the first half onwards, so that they can be at the bar/jacks/chipper van first. It is SUCH a joy to have to stand up for them over and over and over, as well as have them block your view of what is going on on the pitch. I'd love to know what is going on in the mind of the players as they watch these rats desert the ship, when there is often something very exciting happening on the field of play.

Maybe a discussion for another thread, but a new stand will in itself attract new supporters.

In fairness, don't mind people standing up to get to the toilets. Rather they did that then piss all over the seats. :P

Yeah I was in the north and it wasn't as good as where I usually sit. Having said that, watching the replay of the game we actually sounded very vocal. I think you just don't get the effect of it in the north/south stands because of the lack of roof.
