Comes with the territory of covering politics.

Not really. It comes with the territory when someone tries to imply that the alt-right are a great bunch of lads really...just a bit misunderstood.

I think an acknowledgement that there are good and bad people on all sides represents progress. It was refreshing to hear them talking about the regressive left identity politics crowd which is generally thought to be less harmful than the alt right but, as we have seen in Hamburg recently, is usually the much more violent and intimidating of the two groups being discussed.

The violence in Hamburg was about identity politics?

    Well f*ck my old jackboots!

So you're using a single example of violence to back up that the regressive left are "usually the much more violent"? It would take much more than one example to balance the equation.

There simply hasn't been any unprovoked violence perpetrated by right wing groups anywhere near the scale of incidents like Hamburg or anywhere else Antifa and the likes have held demonstrations. Over 100 police injured. Find me a comparable level of unprovoked violence by the alt right and I might re-consider my opinion.

It was about the regressive left, the ones that describe themselves as tolerant and liberal but in reality are the complete opposite, as the violence and destruction of private property would testify to.

Yeah so basically we won't tolerate you being anything but tolerant.

Oh, so racists and white supremacy can by nice people too. Nah, I'm not buying it somehow. Reminds me of joke Ken once told..."...You shag one sheep"

As long as you hold everyone by the same standards it makes no odds to me.

You. Who are these "good people" on the alt=right side of things?

Well it's hard to pinpoint on such a generalised grouping but I'd associate some alt-right views to people like Jordan Peterson or Dave Rubin on youtube.

These are the type of people to which I would be in agreement with, not the extreme white supremacists which are a tiny minority.

extreme white supremacists which are a tiny minority.

Bull****, the alt-right is overwhelmingly a racist movement.

We need to tell Ken that his political pod has caused a humour malfunction in the thread.

That is subjective and depends firstly on your definition of alt-right and secondly on your definition of racism. I could counter that the left is overwhelmingly a communist movement but that would be only focussing on the extreme elements and ignoring the many sensible positions that are less extreme.

I actually liked the last political pod.

How about using the definition of the author you were praising in your original post - kind of apt.
They’re most certainly racist, and they’re definitely misogynist...If you use their strict definition, they demand you define [the alt-right] by its placing race at the center of its politics. It explicitly states race primarily is a biological category at the center of everything and explicitly states goals of wanting a white ethno-state and even a white empire, which would of course necessitate war at the very least and probably genocide if it were ever to actually happen.

Excellent chat with Donal Og about tactics and punditry, I think they were right in saying the Hurling pundits are too positive and the Football lads have a "My day was better" mentality.

I wish they'd stop playing that Rugby League clip, it seems like it goes on for half an hour.

Haven't signed up to Second Captains but I would agree if that was the sentiment of the show. Had the exact conversation on Monday at work.

If there was a word that I could use to describe hurling analysis, I would say, obsequious.

Yeah, Donal Og was very good. I was glad Eoin pressed him on the sliothar shenanigans - in his book there are a few sliothar stories that are worth re-telling.

Very true, all the hurling pundits are more promoters of the game rather than analysts imo.

Ive liked them too, but it's just 2 peoples opinions, no need for us all to be getting shirty over it :)

This is worse than that time we thought there were ads in the pods when there werent.

Anyone else wish ken would do a travel pod. Consistently the best material comes from ken going around describing his holidays, match reports, city visits etc

Good idea, but I would guess that the current setup would not be able to finance his travel expenses for going to various cities. He rarely even goes to live matches as it is...

It wouldn't cost that much to send him to a European city for a weekend.

Maybe pitch the idea to RTE, a football-focused travel show...

Think RTE did it with Ardal O'Hanlon a few years ago where he went to 5/6 of the biggest football derbies for a weekend. Was fairly sh!te though

yeah I vaguely remember that; didn't watch, but I'm not the biggest fan of Ardal when he's not in a dog collar...
