Is that the course where Duval shot 59 back then? I think that was a pro am event.

Yep and Duval started as new commenter for The Golf Channel on Thursday so looks like he's going to be essentially out of full time golf now, shame.
What I don't like about that 59 is the rotten gear he had on that day, shocking stuff altogether!

Crazy round from Palmer. Was -10 for an 8 hole stretch from 12-1

61 with 2 bogies, only 5 pars in the round

Missed a short birdie putt on his last as well.

Genuine question! I often hear a commentator say something like "everyone's left that putt short today" or "everyone's expected that putt to break right at the end and it hasn't". Well would there be anything in the rules to stop a caddy being in contact with someone watching the tournament on TV and when a player has a putt that everyone's misread relaying the info to the golfer? Genuine/stupid question maybe!

I doubt caddies could be wired up but its common practice for late starters (and their caddies) to watch early TV coverage and learn what they can.

Oh Golly, Matty having a bit of a nightmare these last 2 holes.

Anyone remember when was the last time you saw Tiger this relaxed dealing with the media? http://www.pgatour.com/video/2015/01/27/tiger-woods--news-conference-before-waste-management.html#ooid=JicTExczqutHaJaT2oou2wPJdS2A1OYo

Apparently he is really getting the ball out there ... "I'm a lot longer than I thought I ever could be again. My speed is way back up, and that's fun. I'm touching numbers that I did 15 years ago, so that's cool."

Anyway, for those who haven't watched the Phoenix Open before, it's one of the better tournaments of the year to watch and has massive attendance figures. Harrington will be teeing it up too although, unfortunately, he won't be kicking any american footballs into the crowd at 16 this year - the PGA turn their backs on players driving balls into crowds without calling fore but decide to crack down on throwing some gifts/caps etc. into the crowds.

Amateur makes an ace today at the 16th. Look at those crowds... it's a friggin Wednesday!!!!! Gotta love the buzz about this hole!

much rather see the likes of that Amateur getting his hole in one in front of big crowds than a PRO. just makes the game seem even more amazing. You know Golf is just unlike any other sport in so far as most amateurs who play regularly can make every single shot that we see the pros making, obviously the difference is doing it consistently.... but it goes to show you, we can do it!!:p

Well that's it, consistency is the key. Every now and then, we all hit one of those amazing shots that we replay over and over in our heads that keeps us coming back! :D

It was funny though, most of the amateurs playing that hole (and the guy who got the ace) said they hit a wedge! I know the course is at a high elevation but a wedge to 147 yards is a fair hit for us mere mortals.

gotta say that the 16th at phoenix is a complete sham. who gives a toss if the hole is surrounded with frat boys. The hole is a complete let down as there is really no major danger, just some tough up and downs.

I'd say you would surprise yourself a how far you could hit a wedge out there in that heat/humidity.

Faced with 147 yards on Saturday @ the Heritage (with no wind) I'll probably be playing an 8. Fast forward to the summer and I would probably be hitting 9, but over there, I'm not sure cause I'm not there, but would reckon I'd be between wedge and 9

The whole tournament is a bit "frat boy" in nature. Not my style at all.

It's unique and really a special part of the first 'big' stateside tournament of the year, 11 of the top 25 players in the world will be there and of course Tiger, it's one hole out of how many played on the PGA tour a year so I think it's special in that regard
A few years back it was standing gallery and now it's a fully enclosed amphitheater, you don't see this anywhere else.
I'll have the PGA feed up in the top right corner of my TV anyhow and looking forward to a bit of craic and something with intense fun atmosphere.
    But to each their own...

So HE is back in action today? How do we think he will get on? I wonder has he a jigger in the bag

HE had a pretty long interview on ESPN the other day, he says he was in transition between two techniques that week and he has since hit "thousands" of chip shots and his own technique is now muscle history, say's he's hitting it very long off the tee too, should be a good weekend, some serious hype going on about it so hopefully it will live up to it...

Completely agree.... Yes, there will be drunk loud yanks which is normally annoying but this one hole is different from the norm and always creates a fantastic buzz.

He looked very relaxed in the interview I posted above and said he sorted out the chipping. He is also driving the ball very well apparently but the lack of competitive play is bound to leave him rusty. I think he will make the cut anyway. I do think he will finish 2015 with several wins under his belt. Quote me in December :D

Well tiger has started terribly especially his chipping. Been average at best so far.

I think I will change my mind regarding Tiger making the cut this week. :D That short game looks horrible!

Two bogies, one double and one birdie in the first six holes for Tiger. Disappointing.

When he putted from that far off the green it was a shocking sign I thought...
