I'd agree with that but the system is quite flawed as a whole but it's what the yanks want.
I like Billy tbh. The game needs such characters to get more people watching and interested in the sport. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he is quite liked but most on tour.

How is the system flawed? I think it's perfect. The top 125 golfers from the entire season get to battle it out over 4 weeks of playoffs with players getting gradually eliminated as the playoff final weekend is reached.

The have fine tuned the system since it started and it's perfect now IMO.

Yeah its a shame Billy isn't in the Ryder cup, he's made for it.

Yes he has character not like a lot out there. If he puts this away tonight, I think it will kick his career off

Mcilroy seems pretty tired and drained. Needs a bit of time off now I think, been a crazy few months

    Well deserved Billy!

Played great golf and I've somewhat warmed to him but god dam those trousers. Why isn't there a dress code banning such hidious colours, the painter and decorators uniform of all white are bad enough besides the likes of these multicoloured checkered pants.
Anyone else think he looks to have disproportionally large feet? Wonder what size shoe he takes.
    Well done Billy.

I have no opinion of Billy Horshel. But given the way he has played in the last few weeks, he deserves this big win. Fair play to him.

I'd sooner be up against Mahan or Simpson than Billy Horschel in a match play right now. Well played!

Rory McIlroy: "There are a few guys I'm glad we're not going to see at Gleneagles -- Billy, Ryan Palmer...and Chris Kirk."

And the rest of the European side I'm sure!

Not sure if that's a comment he should be making to be honest, whilst it may be true, it's only likely to pump up the yanks even more to go out and prove themselves.

Came home from work for recorded action to expect a coronation, pity Rory didn't deliver.

Too much golf in the last few weeks, starting playing when all was lost.

Didn't think Billy would turn up this week let alone hold it together for the final round. Thought that Rory's eagle on 15th in round 3 would give him the nerves, Rory imploding help his cause.

    When/Where did he say that?

Rory looked shattered last night. I just hope he gets chilled out now and regroups for Gleneagles.

Yes, let's hope so. We don't want a repeat of what happened with Padraig when he played in the Ryder Cup after winning the same two majors.

Rory will be on goals on sunday next sunday morning! talking about united:rolleyes:

He didn't seem too down about missing out on an extra 8 mill USD - the two majors this year are worth way more that that in terms of sponsorship I suppose.

Agreed - he just seemed a bit spun out though.

He's been under immense media focus since his three in a row and he's been in contention for a large part of each of the last three tournaments, so it's no wonder he's feeling a bit burnt out right now. As he said himself, he might have been better taking a week off during the play offs.

But he's young and immensely talented and will hopefully be back to top form come Friday week.

So who should get PGA player of the year? Billy Horschel, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Jimmy Walker and Bubba Watson have been nominated.

Can't see it going to anyone but Rory myself. 2 majors and a WGC win at the Bridgestone seals the deal.

McIlroy for me, I'd have Rickie second despite not having a win.

If you look at results for the year, it has to be McIlroy. I know he didn't win the FedEx Cup, but he won two majors and a WGC, he's almost $2m ahead of his nearest rival in the money list, he's leading the OWGR by almost 30% over the second ranked player, he's earned over 200 OWGR points more in 2014 than the second most successful player and he's leading the scoring average for the PGA Tour. Bubba is second on both the money list and most world ranking points for the year and Sergio is second in scoring average.

I don't think Rickie comes anywhere near being second to McIlroy. While he had a good season and was very consistent, particularly in the majors, he didn't have a win, he ranks 5th in OWGR points earned (behind Jim Furyk in 4th), he's 8th on the money list and only 30th in scoring average. If measured purely by consistency, Jim Furyk actually had a better season than Rickie.

Having said this, I think Rickie is clearly one of the most improved players this season and is definitely one to watch for 2015.
