Trust me, those diesel Smarts are not economical at all.
The tank is very small, we had one as a rental a while back in Italy and it was doing about 300km (barely) to a tank

Since when did the size of a fuel tank have a negative effect on economy:confused::confused:

Without knowing the size of the tank there is no way to work it out.

    33 litres.

Oh yeah and 0-60 in 20 seconds.

DPF (pretty sure they have one) and common rail would put me off further.

    I believe it's a 10 gallon tank.
I meant that with it's small tank (filling up more frequently) and poor performace the car was very uneconomical.
You would have to floor the nuts off of it to get it to move.

Wow I never knew they made a diesel. I struggle to see the market for it, I mean surely the petrol is very economical for most users and how much motorway driving would you do in that thing?
    Strangely tempted though!

Under 1 litre and diesel. There is a market over here. Sounds like a perfect combination:D

Jokes aside, what a stupid idea - diesel in Smart:confused:

It shouldn't matter though. The NCT due date is based on the first date of original registration (no matter what country that was in)

Maybe something was lost in paperwork translation when the car was imported here? :)
are you sure about that? As far as i can remember my last import was nct'd based on date of registration in ireland rather than it's original date of registration.

    +1

Tank size has nothing to do with mpg, only a positive effect actually.......because if you have a small tank, therefore less weight for the engine to propel, therefore making it more economical. :P

Probably I should have been clearer, I meant that the small tank gave the impression it was thirsty due to stopping quite often to fill it back up.
Leaving the small tank part aside, the car is still very uneconomical :)

This one is poorer than paddy spec - it doesn't even have a tachometer.

    Something a bit different.

    1979 Ford Cortina
    2.0 Petrol, auto
    63k Miles
    NCT exempt, tax 6/14
    €1200
This would make a well nice daily driver.
