They're supposed to be sharp enough to drive (impian)

That must be the rarest car in Ireland. And with good reason.

I think I read somewhere before that they're used by the UK police

    Don't know if true

Don't you mean the colt based GTI?

Either way even the Impian is a Lotus tuned car with a Mitsubishi engine and tech.

They're a solid if bland car.

They were but I can't think of which force used them.

Even the boggo ones were supposed to handle well. I'd say the later 125hp CamPro engines would be nippy enough given how light the car must be.

I actually really like that, it's probably got a decent amount of poke in it too.

Yes it does look like an interesting car.

Was it actually possible to buy an Estate Golf with this engine from factory though.

Wasn't aware of 1.8 T Golfs been available in Estate form - although of course it may very well have been possible to spec such a car in the Uk - in the same way the Jetta version of the Mk 5 Golf could be specced in the Uk with the Golf Gti Mk 5 200 ps engine

Humberside I think used these Protons as normal basic Patrol cars - in the same way the Gardaí would have used Corollas etc over here.

In fairness though at least Humberside have the decency to spec up proper cars for traffic though - unlike our lot speccing up Avensises for Traffic :(

    I am very optimistic :pac:

That Proton looks alright actually(reminds of a 90s Audi for some reason), i'd rather have that than an old Corolla which would cost about the same, more modern and probably a lot safer. Drive it til the tax runs out and throw it away.

A Corolla is much better built though and is of far better quality in comparison. Those impian's are a bit on the cheap and nasty side of things. I wouldn't say it's a whole lot safer either of tbh.

I meant a Corolla for the same money, which would be 00-01 at best.

I'd nearly buy one for the novelty. Parts would be tricky I'd say.

The internet is your friend, plus they were sold in NI new.

Dirt slow for what they are though, heavy big yokes.

Sorry for dragging this back up, but a 300 quid remap will see over 180bhp and it'll be fairly quick then.

Im toying with the idea of buying another as a toy....

That's the model I'm talking about, well the earlier bug model actually. both are streets ahead of an impian in terms of build quality and fit and finish.

I'm sure for the money that impian will make a good run around for someone. If I had the choice of the two though I'd drop back the years and get the corolla every time.

Does the engine management light being on make a difference to the impian?

    2004 Fiat Panda
    1.1 Petrol, manual
    58k Miles
    NCT 4/14, no tax
    €1100
Short NCT, but this is fairly cheap. €1k picks it up I suppose.

5dr saloon is a bit misleading but at the end of the day the buyer (with a small bit of haggle) will have change out of a grand to pay for a full year tax plus fresh NCT and 4 good tyres.

How did it get a 2 years NCT ending beyond it's 10th birthday? Shouldn't be possible, should it?

Yes - shouldn't it be 6/14 - if it was an original Irish car (its not obviously) - then if it was registered in June 04 - it would have been due its first test in Jun 08, subsequent tests in June 10 Jun 12 - and a test in Jun 14 - but because its 10 years old on June 14 - then it would be a 1 year test surely to June 15.

But it should be due a test in June 14 - assuming the month is correct.

    I think :confused::confused::confused:

    That's what I was thinking

It shouldn't matter though. The NCT due date is based on the first date of original registration (no matter what country that was in)

Maybe something was lost in paperwork translation when the car was imported here? :)

Your right it wouldn't make a difference - I just typed out the way it would have worked on a car bought new - to make it clear in my own head.

Carsireland.ie says its due in 2015 anyway.

I really do not know how or why it has been tested for so long, though.

Aye, I checked that too. I have no doubt the car is in fact NCTd until June '15, just wondering how it got such a long test :)

plenty of car for the cash. not much NCT time, but a claimed only 2 months/ 500km since the last test was completed.
