    Good kick from Keatley: 15-20

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,363 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Keatley slots the pen, to put Ireland 5 up.

Thats at least a draw the way Georgia have kicked :P

Superb kick that time, considering the conditions are obviously a bit difficult.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

The Schmidt era off to a winning start!

    Well...we win.

    And Ireland win 20-15.Extremely lucky.

Do Ireland now go on to play the SA XV or is that it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,257 ✭✭✭Hagz

Well that clears up the second try anyway.

Very poor ambition shown by many of these Irish players to get promotion toward the main squad. All Georgia had to offer was boef and a tiny crowd.

I think they play the South African XV and Uruguay.

EDIT: South Africa on the 11th and Uruguay on the 16th

anyone play well? stand out performers? from an ulster perspective howd heaney and allen get on in the backline?

Anyone emerge from that with much claim to a good performance? Keatley?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,000 ✭✭✭Hype710

Dave Kearney and McGrath decent. Cooney brings great energy. Disappointed with the back row in particular, would go Diack, Murphy and McKeon for the SA game.

All in all, it was good to pick up a win. Considering the nature of the team that was put together, it was obvious that there was a lot of incoherence & hopefully there will be a bit more when the next game comes around against the SA President's XV

Kearney & Morris looked dangerous & strong at the back, centres never really got going but did ok. Keatley did alright & kicked well. I thought Cooney looked very sharp when he came on. Pack did fairly well overall & good that they dominated the scrums. Bent & McGrath can be happy enough with that and their work around the park. Diack was probably the standout of the backrow players on show, while Dom Ryan had a game to forget.

Not a great spectacle, but still a very worthwhile exercise and I'm glad I got the chance to watch it & see these guys in action

    Did Macken get a run?

Yeah he got on towards the end & looked good with ball in hand. He didn't stand out massively, but he was only on for a short time. Perhaps he'll start the next game with Reid, who also looked decent at 12 when he came on

It was brought forward for not retreating 10 from the kick.

Was it him that threw that shocker of a pass to Diack?

It was. I wouldn't call it a shocker though. The long pass to Diack was the right idea, just the execution was a little off. He was putting it over the defender as well, so not the easiest pass to make
