No I understand what the OP is saying I just don't understand why it's an issue. It happenened to everyone I knew in primary school anyway, and we all liked hearing our Irish names.

It's the school's MO to provide an Irish education in an Irish environment and total immersion is part of that. Tradition in these schools has always had this come to pass. Everyone knows that.

"and we all liked hearing our Irish names"

    Eh, no we didn't!

I know that, hence why I said if any name has a significance in history then there will be Irish for it.

Sure a lot of Irish is based around the Irish language.

    Dia dhuit(god be with you)

Dia Is muire dhuit etc etc..

Don't get Oranage2 started on that issue...

He wants to ban teachers using that phrase.

So to be clear his position is - force kids to change names, but ban common phrases to prevent atheist kids from being taught those phrases.

After reading 5 odd pages of this thread I know know quite a bit now and don't call me frankly!

Shirley you don't mean that you are annoyed by being called a name that isn't yours?

That's nearly 2 years old and satirical, though it was nice of you to spend so much time going through my posting history instead of doing more important things like ringing a school over an issue that's clearly very upsetting for you.

    Satirical you say? Hilarious thread.

"Very upsetting" - I love the way posters feel the need to ramp up the level of feelings from slightly irritating, because it doesn't fit with how they think we should be feeling. I have spent more time on this thread correcting the fact that we are not overwraught about it, simply a bit ticked off.

As to calling the school. I will, if it becomes a problem. It isn't - merely an irritant.

However, I am checking out (as I have said over and over) what documentation is required by the US. At that point I'll probably call the school and mention it.

Can't help but wonder what keeps you checking back though.

Just like I thought, I'm dealing with a genius.

Oranage2 isn't my real name just to stop any confusion.

I was reading this last night and can't believe how many replies came since then :pac:

I thought the 2 went hand in hand if i'm honest. Another argument that was made was Irish names for Emma and Sophie, which there are, but i'm sure the teachers just group people with similar names into the one name group.

My Irish name annoyed me in Primary school. OP, i assume you'll be enrolling your daughter in an Irish secondary school? I think you should get it sorted out asap if it's bothering her. My brother is in an Irish secondary school and the Irish name will only drive her to madness i'm sure!

Well if someone else choosing the name to call you is a minor minor thing, how about you let me change your username for 24 hours? Challenge accepted?

Username123 ran away from that one...

You missed the point YOU don't get to choose I do.

    Still blasé about it?

Ive recently started to use the fada in my name all the time as without it my name is spelt wrong. I dropped it years back when dealing with a lot of people internationally.

I don't think its right for anyone to tell you they are removing your birth name and replacing it with one of their choosing. What are they, concentration camp commandant's dehumanising their captives?

This is not the same thing, how can you change someone's username? I would not care if you changed my username tbh,

Id change it but id have to pay to register, to much hassle.

How about something similar to the real life scenario, you just pick a name and call me it, as long as its not racist or condones child abuse I dont care.

The scenario I have described is someone being forced to call themselves something they dislike. I tell you what - change your sig for 24 hours. Are you in?

Great but it means nothing to me or to anyone else, my username is Hondasami.
I don't see how you think this makes a difference to your argument.

I see, so when being asked to change something, even after having enrolled for it you get irritated and dislike it.

I think I have proved my point that A. Names are important to people and B. Forcing some name on someone makes them cranky.

Oh, and Oranage2 welches delivers on deals!!!!!

    Job done.
