TBH, with all the custom suits and media etc, Ive found myself wondering if Conor isnt getting caught up in the hype. Then I figure there's no way JK lets him off the hook with training.

Been thinking this myself lately, 4 weeks to fight time and he's arsing around in Vegas, how long is a normal camp?

you hear 10-12 wks with a couple weeks wind down and weight cutting

Is Conor actually in camp in Vegas? I know he went for PR stuff, meetings with UFC officials and Sponsors but how long is he there for?

He's in Vegas for his birthday. Even top athletes need time off to recover.

That said, he got some training in today at SyndicateMMA. Judging from the pic below, nobody needs to concern themselves with apparent slacking off.

SBG guys don't do 'camps'. They train all year round at a good intensity rather than getting fat in between fights and murdering themselves for 8-10 weeks. Rest assured, Conor's training wherever he is. He'd also probably tell you that you HAVE to believe your own hype...but it's not hype. It's confidence.

Id imagine this may be ok at a lower level but perhaps at the highest level i think you need to be peaking properly going into fights to bring the best out of yourself going into fights rather than grinding whole year around. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to sample other types of top coaching for a while to get different perspectives on training rather than Ireland and Iceland. Just a thought.

Super fighter and wish him all the best but what's with the strange accent he puts on in interveiws , sounds a touch American , iv heard him speak loads of times in real life and he doesn't speak like that at all , obviously has nothing to do with his fighting and here's hoping we see a lot of that ,

I'm sure a lot of people (outside of Dublin) would struggle to understand his accent and he probably wants to come across better and more easily understood.

He seems to pronounce some of his words very meticulously - presumably the ones he would normally pronounce with a heavy Dublin accent.

Haven't noticed any funny accent, but have you ever tried to be understood in America?

It's damn near impossible without trying to modify your accent at least a bit.

I still get abuse from my friends about the time I called reception from our hotel room in Miami to ask was there a shop nearby where I could buy some cards (playing cards).

Because I was on the phone rather than in person I forgot about my accent. Dead silence on the phone, then the girl slowly and with huge confusion asked what I meant by "kee-yards"...

Wow, tell me more. You must have trained several high level combat athletes and have a wide breadth of knowledge and experience on the subject. (insert Gene Wilder here).

Every fighter does camps. Are you suggesting that Connor is a unique case compared to the other guys in the ufc.

I'd say he's suggesting that Conor and his team more than likely have it under control. And a 30 second video of him having fun with his boss doesn't mean he's "slacking off" on his training.

THe accent really annoys me too but I can understand what's going on. I've lived abroad for a while and I noticed myself modifying the way I talk so I could make sure people understood me. It was just natural.

it's probably just not as defined 'a camp' at SBG ...sounds like they maintain themselves in good shape all year and then focus on their game plan leading up to fights but not necessarily an exact 0-fight 10 week camp. I'm sure Richy06 knows what he's talking about or he wouldn't have said it. SBG runs classes like any other gym and as far as I heard Conor runs some of those classes himself as do other fighters there so there's always somebody 'in camp' but the classes probably just continue rolling over no matter who's got a fight coming up. I'd say they're constantly helping each other train for their respective fights and as a result everybody benefits. Must be 10-15 fighters training in SBG at different levels from amateur to pro and its a business so I can't imagine everything stops for one fighter or that there's just specific training for one fighter just coz they're higher up the MMA food chain.. conjecture on my part.

actually be nice to hear John Kavanagh chime in here and tell us all how Conors gettin on in training coz god knows we're interested : )

Nice way to get in a little mention for the Irish fans. Bloodyelbow and Sherdog are great and all but it's nice to have an Irish only place to feel a bit more connected to our local lads.

That and I'd say there are way more MMA forum lurkers here than is obvious. Shit, I'm probably one myself even and I check the forum and this thread in particular pretty much every day.

Id say he cant wait for the fight!. Agree with you about him being energized by the media attention. Thats spot on, some clam up a bit under it and feel they have something to prove but its rare someone takes it in their stride as much. And Mellors pic suggests hes not messing around.

I'm saying the guys don't get out of shape and then train 8-10 weeks leading up to their fight. They train all year round - there's about 15 guys on the team and at any one time afew of them have fights coming up. But yes, I am suggesting Conor and the SBG pro team do do it slightly differently to others in the UFC.

    Different strokes and all that.

As a boxing and MMA fan I'm not aware of too many guys who train all year round. Some guys stay in shape but its far from actual training others fatton up

I don't know whether you meant to write "fatten" on that is a reference to Ricky Hatton and his fondness of letting himself slip into ridiculously bad shape between fights.

    I like the latter :)

    Where does it say that?

In the link you post it's listed as the second to last prelim.
