A fight with Nam Phan would almost be guaranteed another 60Gs

came in to say that this fight should be next

Nam Phan would have to rack up a win before they'd get matched up, they almost never match up someone coming off a win off someone coming off a loss. It'd be a great fight though.

I'd like to see him fight a more wrestling based fighter next. I think Mike Brown would be okay but I'd prefer someone less experienced like Bermudez or Rodrigo Damm.

For sheer fireworks, I'd like to see him fight Max Holloway.

EDIT: Just seen Bermudez and Holloway are actually set to fight each other at UFC 160, haha. So I'll just shut up!

yeah I like that one...young, on win streak of 3 like Brimage, can strike too, tall as well and he had a similarly quick turnaround last summer from June to August

Do people on here really think he's ready for Brandao ??
    He's a beast
Also in his last fight looks like he has finally learned to take his time in there ,
I think its to early for Conor to take on Brandao but sure what do i know :D

If I was the UFC I'd see a lot of media exposure in a McGregor win in Boston and therefore I'd match McGregor with somebody who's likely to stand with him rather than take him down.

yeah and it would be great if he beat a striker after a wrestler, it's all about Conor's impressive striking I'd love to see him make a decent striker look normal !

I really would like to see Conor get a couple of more easier fights rather than him getting in there with a top 10 guy. After one fight that lasted just over a minute, I think its important he gains more time and experience in the cage. I think the winner of Garcia V McKenzie would be a great fight for him. I would love to seem him in there with Jeremy Stephens though !!

Agree 100% people are expecting huge things from him put him in against a big name too soon and his career could be over in a matter of seconds. The fact he's Irish is adding to it.

Jeremy Stevens would be some fight a good gate keeper fight

MTB would be the most dangerous fight IMO because he'll be confident he can out grapple and out muscle McGregor (not necessarily true at all though:), he'd be confident he can drop McGregor in a flurry (if he got that far;) and he'd just be so hungry to get a great victory at this final chapter in his career - it'd be a serious case of old-lion syndrome BUT it would be such a great scalp at this point for Conor so it would be very tempting for both camps I'd say. Higher risk Higher reward - except he's fightin end of May so it's pushin it... I'd say you'd ideally want 1-2 weeks rest, 10-12 weeks training specifically for your opponent, 2 weeks tapering down/media/weight cut = 14-15 weeks?

agree with what you're sayin but again - he's booked for end of May !

... and he's comin off 3 straight losses.... kinda mean to put him in with McGregor after that : ) just sayin

and if you have to wait to see how Stevcens does in his fight on the basis you're not going to pair him with McGregor on a 4 fight losing streak then you have to wait before you even begin to get the McGregor fight-hype goin.... and this is a big card what with the laucnh of Fox Sports whatever it feckin called.

Check out tv3 news at 5.30 he's on getting his suit fitted in Louis cope lands .
Got tickets to the late late also :):)

Denis Siver could be a good fight but he's booked.

I'd like to see him in fight with a guy who has a name but not too dangerous for him maybe Cole Miller, Manny Gambuyan.

Miller - back to back losses and fighting tomorrow night - if he wins then yeah deffo would like that, if he loses he won't get McGregor, hope he wins so : )

Gamburyan - 5 losses and 3 wins in the UFC, hasn't fought since last Aug then was supposed to meet Mendes on the 157 card but pulled out late with injury so.... would be good but prob not a contender (just noticed he fought at 170 that's BJ penn mental)

Well done to the guys, they came across brilliantly.

Talks too much about money IMO

Great stuff, they came across as the most civilised guests in the recent history of the late late despite all RTE's efforts with metallica music and talk of "cage fighting".

I'd say Tubridy's research for the interview consisted of watching back all of Alex Reid's RTE interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,309 ✭✭✭T-K-O

    All lads that went well.

In fairness the audience at home ( majority of them) would know MMA as cage fighting. It was a positive to clear that up

Fairness where it's due I thought Tubridy conducted a good interview. He let the lads explain their sport and didn't try to patronise them. All in all a very proud moment for MMA in Ireland.

Can't believe I watched the late late show other than tuning into the toy show to get me in the spirit of Christmas, very surprised as I thought Tubrity was going to be on a mission to run down the sport. The lads came across brilliant with the added bonus of putting the point out that mixed martial artists hate the term cage fighting and were given the time to explain why. great ambassadors for the sport of MMA.

Did themselves proud in that interview - two class acts and it would be so exciting if Pendred makes it onto the card in Boston. Conor has something very special about him, he's as likeable as he is talented. If he gets a few more wins under his belt and continues to improve, he could be a major star in the UFC (maybe I'm getting ahead of myself!). Great age to start his UFC career too at 24, young enough to have lots of improvement left to do and old enough that he has some solid experience.

Fair dues to Tubbers he treated the lads well, Conor comes across cocky very confident but he is able to be them things but not look like a asshole, which is a hard thing to do.

My highlight of the interview was him saying he wanted to bring Cathal to Boston that says alot about the person Conor is and I hope he tears the feather weight division to bits.

Anyone know Conors walk around weight he looks maybe 165-170

Re the cage fighting term had to smile when Cathal said he is fighting in Cage warriors in June

I never liked cage rage it was disgusting name for MMA to be associated and Dave O Donnell has done nothing but bad things for MMA on this side of the pond, everything he touches has a tacky dirty feel to it.

    What a legend. :D

Both legends in their own right.

I will admit, as a longtime MMA fan, I never paid attention to the Irish MMA scene, what a fcuking idiot I feel like. Both of these lads could be ambassadors for the sport, they believe in hard work, clean living and dedication. How anybody can doubt this sport after this interview I will never know.

    Well done Cathal and Conor.

There's something unique about Conor when he's in the Limelight doin these interviews... seems to light up without nerves of any sort, it's uncanny. It's like the attention and moment just feeds into him like Gamma rays to the incredible hulk! That's a scary natural ability. Most people don't react like that.
