If anybody has a reserve in Limerick or Dublin City and they're not going for it, let me know. It would be much appreciated. Thanks

Bought this camera 2 weeks ago with the VR lens.

It's a cracking piece of kit.

    Thanks OP. Great offer!!!!

I have one reserved in Arklow until tomorrow night... anyone have one reserved in north dublin/louth/meath who are willing to swap!

Get a class 10 SDHC boys and girls.

I have a class 10 and a class 6 and the 10 is noticeable quicker when shooting RAW in continuous mode.

Thanks Notch000 for posting this great offer!

Thanks Gabico for the Galway reservation code!

My wife and I are really looking forward to our first DSLR:)

Now I just have to track down a good deal on a SDHC card and a suitable bag!...... any pointers or recommendations welcome;)

    http://www.memoryc.com/flashmemorycards/sdsecuredigital/8gbtranscendultimatesdhccl10securedigitalmemorycard.html

I have used 16 and 32gb cards, but with the higher capacity I found myself getting lazy, and letting the cards fill up before transferring to PC and backing up etc.
Have a few 8gb cards now. Works for me. ;)

    Lowepro bags are daycent.

Thanks OP, I've wanted to get into photography for a while and this seems ideal.

For a bonus bargain, here's what I did:
Bought the camera and got the €10 voucher Argos are giving for spending over €100.

Decided I wanted a case and looked through the catalogue and noticed that they give a third off when purchased with a camera.

These two are listed at €39:
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5695829.htm
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5695836.htm

Went back in with my receipt and told the guy I'd just bought the camera and could I get the rucksack with a third off. "No bother, that makes it €26".
Then used the €10 voucher to get the rucksack for €16.

    Hi

Picked up one this evening but the 'void if removed' sticker was broken.

I took it home, everything seems fine, but (maybe paranoia) how do I apply for the rebate? Should there be a form in the box?

think you need to submit a copy of your dated reciept, should be on the cashback website

No form in the box, you just got to follow the steps on the website, either scan them and upload or post them.

I just picked up one of these, well my girlfriend did for me. Couldn't find one in Cork or Galway but thankfully my girlfriend was going home to Kilkenny this weekend and picked up the last one in Carlow. Since I lost my point and shoot I've been on the look out for a decent camera.

I'm in two minds on this purchase
Is there any return policy, or rather is there a favourable returns policy?

The argos worker told me several times that I couldn't exchange it. 'even if you get home and decide you don't like it' she said :D

i have its predecessor d60 also bought from argos and it cost nearly double at the time. And can say its the best camera for a beginner or someone starting in photography, the battery lasts ages on dslrs can be on for weeks or even months. The build is sturdy and what you would expect from nikon, easy to use interface, even for beginners.the only thing is lens that comes with it 18-55mm is mostly good for portrait photos the zoom is poor and [macro] is limited, but 99% who buy these cameras are happy with the kit lens. That said after few photos you make, you'll never look back at using phone camera or digital one as quality of dslr is lifelike, crisp and bright.
the only con is if you decide to go for different lenses as most Dslr cameras are only limited by what lens you use,as even the simplest macro/zoom or landscape lens will cost you more then the body itself.

But the thing about good lenses is they rarely, if ever, go down in value.

So in a way, it's an investment (Or at least that's what I keep telling myself)

    Decent lenses can be picked up cheap enough;

    The fantastic 35mm f1.8 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001S2PPT0

    Sample images - http://www.pixel-peeper.com/lenses/?lens=13142

Currys are selling off demo models on ebay (use Parcel Motel), the 55-200 is only £89 (I sold mine for €150)

Someone who gets camera for 200+ might not seem very tempted to fork out 600-800 for decent lens,so what you speak of are the professionals or in business, but not ordinary joe who takes pic or two once in a while, and such models are just made for such people, but in saying that im not implying that better gear makes better pictures :)

Update: 16:57 - code gone to enzonini. Hope he/she is quick as they have 63 mins! :)

    Hi Everyone,

Just thought that I would give an update on how everything turned out.

Purchased the D3100 on Friday 5th April in Argos Galway.

Also thanks to the recommendations here I went with the Lowerpro Camera bag:

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5695829.htm

Lists at €38.99 but got a third off when buying with the camera – so final price was €25.99.

Also got a €10 Argos Voucher (they would not let me use it to purchase the Bag…. Unlike another Poster who managed to get away with it – lucky Devil ! ) I was chancing my arm asking to use it as to be honest I didn’t think that they would let me use the €10 Voucher in addition to getting a third off the bag :)

Impressions so far are that it is a well-made bag with good strong zips.

I went with brick and mortar shop for my purchase of the SDHC Memory cards.

Tesco Galway or Oranmore didn’t have the SanDisk Ultra 16Gb card at the €11 special but I tracked down a special offer at Curry’s Galway where they had a twin pack of SanDisk 16Gb’s for €24.99 (so about €12.50 each… which was not too bad! ;) )

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/SANDISK-Ultra-Class-10-SDHC-Memory-Card-16-GB-Twin-Pack/315620/177.1

I couldn’t wait to order the memory cards online as I really wanted to try the Camera out at the weekend!

I will also be applying for the Nikon €35 Euro Cash back today which will sweeten the deal even more :)

We love the camera, it is a fantastic piece of kit and is a great entry to the world of DSLR for us.

Thanks to all the Fab posters here for the guidance and advice!

    All the best,

    Lazybones
