75 min turbo. Muscular endurance I'm told. Single leg, big gear sprints, more longer single leg, 10 min @ rpe 8 85cad. I did not enjoy it one bit which means it was what I need to do.

Single leg drills? Why are you doing those?
IMHO not enjoying something does not mean its good for you.

No, I did single leg drills 30s on 30 off then big gear work, then more single leg 45/15 then 10 mins 85cad rpe 8.

I dont mind single leg but the session as a whole was hard. Heading into that 10 mins in the latter part. Just not used to working hard I guess.

Ran this morning (how can I possibly socialise when I get up early all the time?) Darkness and rain. A taste of things to come. Once it got bright it was a lot easier to deal with the icky weather. I had 3x 10 min tempo in the middle of this jaunt, with 2 min recovery. Covered 13k in 1.07. Then, of course, the sun came out.

Long cycle early this morning. I leave early and mostly, only my usual partner in crime will come out at that hour. But today he was awol, and cos the clocks went back, a few others were willing to get up at the crack of dawn and go cycling. It was chilly out but nice, until we got rain which wasnt forecast. I got soaked, and when the pace slackened at one stage, i got really cold. So cold that a hotel coffee stop with a whole pot of tea didnt warm me up. So I said I would push on home at pace so I would warm up, and I left the gang behind. A pity but I needed to get warm! A strong wind made it more work than the out leg and I ended up sweating. :) Did 76.5k in 3 hrs.

I think I passed you on the Enniscorthy road looking very sleek, svelte and stealthy on your Storck.

    Hammer down time!

Ha! Sorry I didn't recognise you, I hope I at least nodded your way!

Don't worry, I didn't even wave, I didn't cop it was you until I drove past.

It's my eternal shame to admit that I was admiring the bicycle so much that I failed to realise (for a short time) that it was being ridden by an attractive young woman in lycra. And it's not the first time.

    I have a problem...........

There was one guy passed who I knew was checking the bike. :) Im used to playing wingman to the storck. Its prettier than me. :)

Good swim tonight. Club swim a night early, cos tomorrow dahlings, I'm going to the opera! Lots of bc in the warmup, and for the first time in ages my feet didnt cramp. 10 x 75 progressive were a challenge of pacing, and the 10 x 25 no breath were revelatory. They actually got easier instead of harder as I figured out how to do them. Even did an extra one at the end because I was enjoying the uninterrupted glide so much. 2400m total

I also met a boardsie (and his two gorgeous daughters) afterwards who is expecting his 4th child tomorrow morning. Best of luck John!

Run intervals! In daylight! Because the clocks went back and I had no school run to contend with. I had listened to lashing rain as I got up, but it had eased to a drizzle by the time I got out. It was warm and muggy and I had to ditch my hiviz bib early on as I was cooking in it.

Just a few intervals in this one, 4x 3min hard 3 min ez. 55 mins total including drills and stuff I had to do. (Carioca on a misty backroad makes dog walkers literally stop and stare) 10k covered. Legs were tired from Sunday but otherwise good :)

Group turbo. I got everyone to do a run down time calibration test, and it served the (very interesting) dual purpose of showing what kind of resistance people were pushing. After that we did a simple but taxing little set that was about a 6 out of 10 on my pain scale. :)

More run intervals! Still in daylight! Short ones this time. 20 mins of wu and drills, then 7x 1min hard 1min ez. 10 min cd. Mind you, my legs are tired. But I got to skip today. Its not often a grown adult has an excuse to skip. Or hop. Or do Michael Flatley-like carioca. But once youve worn a trisuit in public, you really stop caring what people think of you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,888 ✭✭✭Dory Dory

Soooo.....skip? As in....what we did as kids?

Okay...so I googled "Monty Python skipping" and this is what came up....:D

But I dug a little deeper (after I composed myself from laughing so hard at the Monty Python clip) and learned that skipping really does help running!! Sprinting in particular!!! I didn't know!!!

3.2k swim tonight. It included 24 lengths of doggy paddle. I didnt enjoy it much, grumble grumble. :) But got it done and now its behind me. Onwards!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,888 ✭✭✭Dory Dory

So....I googled "Monty Python doggie paddle" twice, and both times this is what came up!

I'm not even going to dig deeper to find out why you're doing doggie paddle!

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

I have no idea why. But based on this session its to injure my neck and shoulders

Probably the same reason that you googled "Monty Python doggie paddle"...

    From the horses mouth:
Doggy paddle? Is used for a number of reasons. Is hard on the muscles as you have to work to bring your arms back strengthening your deltoids and traps. It also used instead of kick as you have to kick hard and it helps co ordinate your kick with your arm catch. It also helps with your catch phase your mid phase and your push phase of the stroke.

Long run today!! Out at 6am so pitch dark with heavy fog... and it was only as I ran down the quiet lane from my house I thought its a good job I dont spook easily. Dark. Quiet. Fog. Halloween. Mwahahahaha. :)

No ghouls were seen during this run but I was sneakily tempted to make like a zombie as the odd car came towards me in the dark, just to freak em out. I didnt tho. Wouldn't like to cause a crash. :)

Picked a bloody hilly route as the marathon I have planned is hilly. It was tough going in parts but my hr stayed a steady sub 140 all the way in spite of having a cold. 2hrs got me to 21.5k. Tho I had a little bit to run home after that (stretched and stuff in between) so 23k in 2.08.

Happy Halloween, all ye ART lunatics. :)
