More likely the poor old owner was away with the fairies and thought s/he was hiding something precious.

I would have hired a locksmith.

Fully functional embedded in cement safe vs hole in the floor. No contest.

That would have been my plan of action too, but it wouldn't have made as good a thread!

Lol yeah, could be the sequel to "I found a safe" or maybe tango and cash will get remade as kango and stash.

    Thanks everybody.

What a week. It's been fun every step of the way. At first I regretted starting this thread. And when it got huge I really regretted it. But I am so glad now that I did.

So what if the safe didn't contain buried Nazi gold, the real gold is in this thread. Yes the mods tarnished it a bit. But I'm very proud to have started it and share it with everyone. I really felt you where with me every inch of the way. I honestly don't think I'd have opened it if it wasn't for you guys. You should all be proud of yourselves.

I want to thank TheSafeMissus, she was my rock.

Yes Hair Cut Boy thought it was more important to have his hair styled, but it was his genius idea to use the car jack, it worked a treat.

I wanna thank Popcorn, the angle grinding pensioner! He's a legend too.

Finally, This is something I will never forget. You all made it special.

And in the future, if anyone of you find a safe, don't be affaid to open it. Live the dream, dig it up and make sure to come on boards.ie and share it, you will not regret it.

    Take Care People

    Pierce.

    What a thread.
It has 173,000 plus views and could have spawned threads in the DIY, Legal, Cookery and Personal issues sub forums.
The winners are the op and his wife who have kept us nicely hooked thru this drama.
    And the hireshop.
And boards.ie who must have had increased traffic and publicity over the last few days.
The losers are the makers of jarred curry who shall forever leave a bitter taste in our mouths. And the local locksmith.

I'm not so sure Boards.ie came out of it smelling of roses thb. While I enjoyed this thread immensely, it is 100% due to the OP.

Just in from a walk on the beach, have caught up on the rugby and this thread at last.

This thread has been a more gripping read than the best thriller I've read in years! (Not many, admittedly, but still.)

Sorry it ended in disappointment for OP and MrsOP, but it made for a great few days entertainment!

Now, on a slight aside, can anyone tell me why Horn Head appears to be on fire, to save me driving over there to find out for myself?

Does anyone recognise those jars? How old are they?

  • Registered Users Posts: 440 ✭✭MrPain

Is there an expiry date on the jars?
