It really depends on the tesco, some only take a few cent off and then some only change like 5c for something that cost 4 euro. I've gone into bigger tescos and got 50e of stuff fora euro and then in my local one they take feck all off.
Tesco reduce things about 3 or 4 times each day until they reduce them to pennies late in the evening. Any Tesco I've been in there is usually a crowd waiting for this to happen and they will literally grab things as they are being marked down. Not worth the hassle.

Yeah i see that a lot, the big queue and all, but when i look my local tesco has reduced them feck all, but in clearwater they reduce them a lot, same in cabra, really cheap. Bigger ones just have more things to reduce.

Got a 2 litre of fresh milk in Dealz for €1.19 or €1.49, forgot which price, but definitely good value, as the same was €2.19 in Aldi

Has anyone tried the Removed, because it doesn't work here app?

I am without smartphone temporarily, and just heard about it last night. Seems like it could be good. Definitely sounds like it has a bucket load of potential anyway.

From what i can tell of it, it uses your locality and tells you where your shopping is cheapest.

So you could get a third of your shopping in SuperValu, a Quarter in Tesco, a Fifth in Aldi, (I... can't... do.. the.. rest... of.. the.. maths..)

But you get the jist. It works out your shopping list, and tells you the cheapest place to get it..

Works on Android, iPhone and Windows Phones..

    doesn'tworkinireland,com]

EDIT. Forgot to mention, you don't have to scan, you can input your items also.
I'm not too sure how well it would work in Ireland.

Lidl and Aldi pots of growing herbs are really good and fresh, and €1.50 (I'm rounding prices up a cent; can't be doing with this value-blinding 99c nonsense), compared to a stonking €2.50 in Superquinn. I use the top of parsley plants, then plant them out; have a nice little parsley hedge going, which I also use - more in summer than in winter, though.

Pine nuts: I thought they were cheaper in the Middle Eastern shops, then started comparing the unit cost, and they were actually, at the time, cheaper in the Hopsack in Rathmines.

Soya sauce - get the big bottle of Kikkoman in the Oriental Emporium (Rathmines/George's Street in Dublin) and keep refilling the pretty little bottle.

Was buying flaked almonds in Superquinn for my morning porridge (honey, brown sugar, cinnamon & toasted flaked almonds, yum) and found that both Ldl and Aldi had them at half the price, around €2 for €200 grammes.

Aldi have fantastic specials every Tuesday on selected vegetables; two of this week's were butternut squash for 79c each and packets of around 4 small parsnips for 37c a packet.

    I wasn't sure.
I think it works by collecting info from users scanned products. (Guessing).
    Then building up a database.

    From Irish Times
We never tested it, and it doesn't work here in Ireland. Confirmed apparently, after people tried it on Boards.ie.

digitaltimes ie - Never tested it either.

I tried RedLaser too; scanned in five things - a library book published a couple of years ago, a packet of Barry's tea, some Kilkenny margarine from Lidl and so on. No prices found for any of them. Useless.

That's a shame. Could be good. I saw it in an Irish Newspaper over the weekend and forgot about it, think it was the Independent. Irish times links it above, as do digitaltimes.ie. You'd think they would have tried it. Are they just copying and pasting from British papers? Or paid advert.

Either way, if it doesn't work here, i'm removing the link. Useless.

3ltr 'Dale Farm' milk - €1.99 (Dealz) (Dunnes have 2 for €4 (own brand))

'Sally Hansen' nail polish, a few nice colours there - €1.49 (Dealz)

'Pantene' Ice Shine hair serum (50ml) - €1.49 (Dealz)

'Herbal Essences' Intensive hair mask (200ml) - €1.49 (Dealz)

    Picked these up yesterday.

By the way, I never normally shop in Tesco since they ditched most Irish suppliers and replaced them with "internationally sourced" (English) products, but as a new Tesco has opened locally and they gave us a one-third-off deal, I went down and did most of my weekly shop there last week. Really unimpressed by the quality of the meat, compared with Lidl and Aldi. And the value, even at 2/3 of full price, was not good. Got a pizza that was fatty, doughy and unpleasantly tasteless, compared to Lidl and Aldi's €3 deee licious goat's cheese and three-cheese big pizzas from their cool counter. Didn't bother with the vegetables as they were way too dear compared to the Germans.

Red-split lentils are like 1.25 in dunnes. 500g

    Tesco €2.50 1kg.

    Lentil soup

Chop and fry in butter carrots, onion, celery, handful of lentils, bay leaf. Add stock and cook till delicious; towards end add a dose of chopped parsley. Quinoa is nice added too.

Re the key-shaped bottle opener keyring: probably not a good idea to use this as a keyring; if you're pulled over when driving and the gardaí see a bottle opener on your keyring they tend (for good reason) to make certain assumptions and give you plenty of attention. Or so an alcoholic friend told me, poor soul.

Another cheap idea is fry an onion add curry paste or curry powder lentils and veg stock. Simmer till cooked and eat with nan or even toast really tasty and all my very fussy brood love it!! ;)

the euroshops are selling jars of crushed garlic for €1.50. you get twice maybe 3 times the amount that you would in a tube that costs close to €3 in the supermarkets.
i used it yesterday in a lasagne and made garlic butter with it, very good quality

Have looked for this but no joy. Did you pick it up in Dublin and if so where?

haven't seen it either but this isn't bad - for 63c (you do have to crush it yourself though):

I picked up some "very lazy garlic" which I find fantastic, as a special in aldi a while ago, think it's generally not the cheapest but lasts for ages & I prefer it or the one above to the tubes.

Same here don't like the tubes they taste horrible. Good value for the garlic bulbs ok but I find they go off before I get around to using them that's why the jar would suit me better I think! ;)

Lidl have a nice deal today - two 3/4-litre bottles of their very nice olive oil for €5, which saves you around €1 per bottle. Going like hotcakes.

I have tried this and it doesn't smell nor taste like garlic. I don't know what they have done to the cloves to make it like this. Not recommendend at all. The one time I used it I ended up having to use garlic granules to give the flavour and threw the jar straight in the bin.

I second this. Any time I've used 'jar' garlic the taste is incredibly poor. 'Tube' garlic is also vile unfortunately.

All €1.49 each in Dealz (Dundrum - at least):

-Kodak 9V Alkaline Battery (eg. Smoke Alarm)
    -10 Pack Cadbury's Mini Rolls
-6x27g Smith's - Scampi Fries & Bacon Fries (3 of each) ... the early 80's sophisticated pub snack of choice ... still got that yummy slightly greasy full-on taste too (for this stubbornly unsophisticated palate :pac:)

Nothing beats the real stuff! (which is usually less than €1 for 3 or more bulbs)

That's my problem too find it goes off very quickly. Don't know how to store it so it stays fresh for longer :o

I had the remainder of a bulb in a glass ramekin by the cooker and it has started to sprout green leaves, the other bulbs I bought in the same 3 pack are not quite as 'fresh' anymore.

I got a thick cotton bag that hangs on the wall; it seems to keep longer in that, perhaps because it's in the dark and can't get damp. Not that garlic gets much of a chance to go off in this house!
