Aldi have 9 premium butchers sausages for €1.99 (used ot be made by Olhausen but they are gone, don't know who makes them now but they are just as good)

Far better than any sausage for sale in Tesco imo.

And they are the highest pork content i have spotted anywhere for the money! 80% i think.

Spotted there was a "basics" range of sausages in a well known supermarket today... i looked at the back and it stated 15% pork content!

Yeah but I think the best value is getting all peppers cause they're normally 99c each.

plus they're wrapped so they're not pawed by the rabble.

They are my favourite sausage from any supermarket. Even if money wasn't a problem I still would buy though. 80% pork content, they are fantastic!

Aldi flour is great now 1.19 I think - half the price of odlums and still Irish.

Combined with aldi "perfect for baking" margerine (75g to 500g flour) it makes really good scones.

A batch of 15 scones costs 75c and the kids love making them, cutting them out and eating them - win win win.

Aldi brioche are great 1.39 - tesco, lidl and dunnes are like cardboard by comparison.
With all the saturated fat you wouldn't want to be eating them every day though!

The aldi 89c? bolognese sauce is good as are most of the tinned tomatoes and beans. The tesco chunky one with the green label is good too €1.19 i think. It can be a bit chunky for the kids so I sometime whizz it with the hand blender.

I find the aldi bolognese sauce a bit heavy on the oregano and not heavy enough on the basil. Put a tin of aldi "chopped tomatoes with herbs" briefly in the blender add that to the bolognese sauce and add some garlic italian seasoning its pretty close to what I'd make fresh.

Lidl passata I find inedible - chock full of citric acid. Theres a tip, if passata / tomato sauce says citric acid on the label avoid. Tomatoes that are good for preserving have enough citric acid in them.

Aldi soy sauce €1.19 is great I use buckets of it

Aldi bramwells ketchup 75c is good too and I wouldn't touch cheap ketchup normally.

Aldi hazelnuts, almonds 1.79? in the baking section are great for lunchboxes.

Aldi mcgraths gold blend tea 1.49? keeps the lyons and barrys fans in our house quiet its got gold 2 stars in the great taste awards this year.

Aldi Snackrite (tayto) popcorn, microwave popcorn are a big hit in out house too. The handcooked popcorn is in general fantastic none of the farty soy lecithin you get on others. You occasionally get a super salty slightly soggy pack presumably the stuff from the bottom of the pile so don't be put off it you get a dodgy pack.

Aldis own brand shreddies are good and cheerios are grand, the cheerios are a lot different to nestle and 30% less sugar but we all like them.

Not under €2 but a huge saving - the Aldi super concentrated almat good housekeeping approved washing detergent is very good €2.79 I think. I used to only buy persil or aerial excel gel. This stuff is very good, don't confuse it with the other almat made in ireland stuff which is the same as tesco value stuff.

I really like the mosher roth chocolate mentioned earlier too, I bought it for baking originally but its far too good for that.

Are you saying dont buy the aldi pestos in the red/green lid jars or is there another pesto type for sale in aldi that i have not seen?

Just wondering as we always buy the small red/green lid jar pestos from aldi and might be missing out on another nicer type from in there?

I'm saying: don't buy the pesto in the glass containers on the ordinary shelf - it is cheap and nasty. Buy the fresh pesto in the fridge. In my local Aldi, it is beside the bagged salads.

The reduced section in my local Tesco is pathetic, stuff that's going off that day with about 50c off or something equally ridiculous.

Same in all the Tescos as far as I can see. I don't really shop in Dunnes anymore but the reduced section is far better. The stuff usually has at least one more day of shelf life.

I would agree generally green pesto is better fresh, however i use the red pesto as the base topping on a homemade pizza, OH prefers just tomatoe puree, but there is a extra kick from the red pesto. Its a bit oily though, but taste great.

Not under €2 but works out great per unit: Lidl do triple packs of their Trattoria Alfredo Pizza 3 for IIRC, a little over €4 or so.

Lifes to short for the sake of a few euro.

I HATE when people say things like that. I have to plan my shopping down to the last euro, otherwise I have to do without something. I'd love to be able to walk into a supermarket and not worry about prices but unfortunately every cent matters. Anyway.

Some of the things I got today:

Aldi: 24 pack Firelighters - 1.99 - Better than any other own-brand lighter.
Aldi: 2-pack Ultra Kitchen Towel - 1.59 - Really thick, not papery cheap stuff.
    Aldi: 4-pack Vegetable Burgers - 1.69 - Delicious!
Aldi: Onions 1kg - 0.79 - Decent sized onions, not miserable little ones.
Aldi: Benefit flakes with Red Fruit - 1.39 - No difference between it & Special K Red Berries.

Tesco: Daisy Washing up Liquid - 0.55 - does the job.
    Tesco: Potato Waffles 12pk - 1.25 - Delicious.
Tesco: Cajun Spice (packet) - 1.19 - I get this instead of the season & shake or the jars. It lasts weeks & it's gorgeous.

Aldi also do lovely wok noodles, curry sauces, Rye crispbreads, biscuits, ham, & their kids yoghurts are lovely. The mouthwash, sanitary towels & deodorant are also brilliant.

Totally agree, oh to not have to worry about the budget!! Also agree that all the Aldi stuff is brill inc the cereals. I find the Lidl Special K type flakes VERY hard but Aldi's are good. Don't worrl Shanna there are lots of us in the same boat and appreciate a heads up from other bargain hunters. Keep posting ;)

Aldi do cream cheese for 0.59c a tub, and have full fat or low fat options. I think the last time I priced Philadephia soft cheese in Dunnes, it was 2.99. I make a lot of cream cheese icing to decorate cakes, and the aldi brand is superb.

Also I love Aldi's Hot Oat Cereal, no different at all from Ready Brek but much cheaper.

Truly Irish sausages are 82% pork, plus they are run by Irish farmers so the money stays with local farmers. Admittedly they're generally more expensive than the Aldi ones (although they are regularly on offer at the same price) but just pointing out there is a higher pork content offering out there! :)

Sometimes 15% might be better than 80%. You know the old saying: "They use every bit of the pig except the squeal." The Victorians used to call sausages 'little bags of mystery'.

Having said that, I do occasionally enjoy a few quality sausages! :)

Just a word of warning on the Dunnes own brand sausages. When they were being supplied by Olhausen they were as good as any but the one's by whatever supplier they have now I found pretty disgusting - it could just be me of course.

I was in €giant yesterday - the place with the navy and yellow sign. They have boxes of children's birthday cards for €1 for a box of 12. 6 for girls and 6 for boys. They don't have ages on them, but the Drama Queen accessorizes cards anyway before her buddies receive them. Its a purple box with a big Asda sticker showing £4.97 and "12 funky kids Birthday cards". Handy to have in a drawer for emergencies. HTH.

Noticed that too re. Dunnes. Also the white pudding I got last week was tasteless and their super lean mince at 8.89kg has been replaced with Angus steak mince at 9.89kg .

This. And to be fair to SQ, their prices have improved a huge amount in the last year. Their 3L own brand milk is under €2 and comes from the same bloody cows as Avonmore who want €2.30 for 2L.

Few other things I spotted while I was in there - Pork chops on half price, €2.76 for four very decent sized hunks of meat.

Beans from the new Daily Essentials range (effectively the same as Euroshopper was) 400g 29c

and so on. Well competitive if you buy the right stuff and stay away from all the prepared meals and salads and crap which is just inflated pricewise.

Best thing about SQ too other than the sausages - Freshly Squeezed orange juice. Not like Tropicana which can sit on a shelf for a month, this stuff has a week life at most and is properly the real thing, it has come directly from fresh oranges. €2.50 a litre, well worth it.

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I do the majority of my shopping in Aldi, so here are some products that are under €1/€2 that I find great!

    The Pantry Flaked Almonds (200g) - €1.99
Health Essentials Effervescent Energise Multivitamin tablets (20) - €1.99
    Kavanagh's Organic Porridge Oats (1kg) - €1.69
Liskeel Organic Whole Milk Probiotic Natural Yoghurt (500g) - €1.29
    Alpenmark German Baked Ham (120g) - €1.29
    Clancy's Roasted & Salted Peanuts (200g) - €0.39
Del Rivo Not From Concentrate Orange Juice (1ltr) - €1.45
Sun Quench Double Strength No Added Sugar Squash (1.5ltr) - €1.49
Specially Selected Butcher's Choice Irish Pork Sausages (9/370g) - €1.99

Loving this thread, some great suggestions to try for the future.

Lidl have a great roll on deodrant, CIEN brand for 59c. I bought it once because i didn't have time to go to Dunnes for my usual brand, but I found it great, and stuck with it

It really depends on the tesco, some only take a few cent off and then some only change like 5c for something that cost 4 euro. I've gone into bigger tescos and got 50e of stuff fora euro and then in my local one they take feck all off.
