They could put up a German flag their Queen is of German origin and our country is in fact being run by Germany so maybe we should be more open about it.

To be honest the only thing that amazes me about all this is that they have the time, money and resources to stage such protests.
What sane individual would give them money to come down to Dublin and try to remove a flag ?
Surely there are bigger injustices, threats to their beliefs / culture / livelihood /whatever going on

That's about the height of it. I was reading a discussion on the flag protests on a UK based site and got the distinct impression from the English posting there that really do wish the "problem" would just go away.

Well the only support the loyalists in the UK really get are from The EDL,BNP and other far right nazi groups.Even the conservatives have done whatever they can to distance themselves from the unionist "struggle" as much as they can.

    these kind of people

We should raise the union fleg over the dail for the day, just because we can and their lot can't

I am not into politics or religion or any of that crap but have always heard that the Uk cant dump Northern Ireland back on us because it is a prime location for launching missiles etc and the USA values it as part of their "friendship" with UK. Should a war start NI would be one of the first locations enemies of USA would try to seize ? Any truth in this ?

    No, none.

    To edit the article slightly;
[quopte]More than 150 suicidal loyalists are to descend on Dublin to demand that the Irish government remove the Tricolour.[/quote]

    The economy= awwwwwh hell no.
I wonder how many people employed in NI are employed as Public Sector, and thus how many would become instantly unemployed?

The NHS is not a bad system. The North will probably be just ignored like Donegal is ignored by anybody in the Dail, and most of their hospitals will get closed down. They'll start to hate the HSE pretty quickly, imo.

    =-=

I hope they get their arses handed to them, that's if their bus doesn't get concrete bricks flung at them from every bridge on the way down :pac:

Good for invading Iceland for sure.

And get our neighbours across the water to fly the Tricolour over Bucking Palace and the Houses of Parliament. :pac:

The poor cretters' heads would explode with the confusion. :P

Are there not missiles that could go as far as USA from NI ? So its a big NO ! NI has no strategic importance whatsoever ?

I don't think I could care any less about these knuckle-dragging morons, but it's the reporting of it that really annoys me. It's always 'loyalist protesters'.

Harrassing Catholic primary school pupils - protesters. Fire-bombing a police car - protesters.

Why? It seems to, in some way, justify their actions or make them seem credible. Were it Nationalists doing the same, the terms used would be 'rioters' or 'paramilitaries/dissidents'. They're brain-dead thugs looking for any flimsy excuse to rant, they're not protesting against anything, they're just after a good riot.

    No.

The British government conceded that it had no "selfish strategic or economic" interest in Northern Ireland as part of the peace process.

    Source.

Why did Sinn Fein and the SDLP object to the Union flag flying over Belfast City Hall in first place? Look at all the trouble and violence that has taken place over the flag issue. Northern is still part of the United Kingdom and the Union flag should be allowed to fly there. There is a lot to said for leaving well enough alone.

    They would say that.

If there was no strategic importance why the investment in things such as RAF bases?

Can you work this out yourself.

Intercontinental missiles can (could have) reached the USSR or the US from Britain, they don't need to be - and aren't - in NI. No missiles are, or were, pointed by NATO members to each other. Also the UK still has nuclear submarines.

    None.

nuclear power means ships and subs can stay out at sea for months at end. A strike could come from there. A lot of missiles can be sent half way across the world by going out of our atmosphere.

The only reason the British are stuck with NI is because the original settlers went on to outnumber the Irish population.

It was actually an Alliance Party motion.

We should do something like this.

it wasn't. SF and SDLP put the motion forward for complete and total removal. The Alliance party put the compromise of 15 days where the flag could fly forward, in line with Stormont. To gain their support, SF and SDLP agreed.

Can we call you Nordies "Orange Staters" then? Seems a fair compromise.

    no it was not.
Yes it was actually, which is why it is the Alliance Party who have been targetted!
On Monday, Belfast city councillors backed an Alliance motion to allow the Union flag to be flown on 15 set days over city hall, rather than all year round.

The vote sparked violence outside city hall and in east Belfast.
