That's cool. The only person I've met with one is through work.

Is that the implanting electrodes while the patient is conscious? It's absolutely fascinating and how as the electrodes pass into position, going through the regions of the brain and how everything appears different according to the corresponding region - like everything turns a particular colour etc and the surgeon mapping where they are in the brain by the patient's response.

That's the one, but they're a bit more sophisticated these days with the placement. They use CT imaging to chart a course and listen to the brainwaves with a recording electrode first. Then they put in the stimulating electrode. AFAIK they just used to use the stimulating electrode and gauge by the patient's responses to impulses to map where exactly they were. Which is cool, but possibly not the nicest for the patient.

I'd a lovely salmon with celeriac, spinach, tomato and potatoes a few hours ago and am still full.

    GRRR! :)

My fella is like that too. When he was finishing his thesis (writing at home), I would get home from work at 6 or 6.30 and he wouldn't have eaten anything since breakfast. "Oh I forgot". Skinny fecker!

Doesn't matter for me how absorbed I am in anything, food will never be forgotten! (my downfall!)

Morning all. A mosquito got under my mozzie net last night and I know have 10 bites on my right thigh! Nice.
We took down the mosquito nets about 2 months ago, but there's always one rogue mosquito that just will not die. He bit all three of us last night. Annoying buzzing pest.

    MORNING!!

    How is everyone this morning?

I'm having a lovely cuddle with Phoe on the couch, he's snoring like a little bear.

Last night we discovered the song "Staaaaar Trekkin across the universe" on youttube. It's been stuck in my head all night!

Busy housey day ahead of me today. Well that is the intention.

Yes it is healthy! .It can really get you down. I hope you can enjoy the two days you have off. Make them extra special. And there is something lovely about knowing you're on your way home to a nice warm house, maybe with dinner ready and your partner waiting for you. Really adds another reason to look forward to home time.

The year before last I was on call and was called in on Christmas Eve and on Stephens Day because one of my work mates went on holiday and just rang in sick. I never forgave him, my first Christmas married and the selfish fecker ruined it by going on hol over Chrsitmas. I wouldn't mind so much but he doesn't even celebrate Christmas and had offered to work the days for the OT, then passed them on to me.

So my ankle is fooked. The Consultant I saw this morning said he doesn't think the problems are ever going to resolve and there's nothing that can be done about it. My leg is basically scarred down to the bone and that's what is causing the problems with the swelling etc.

I just want to go home and cry my eyes out. I'm 25 and I have been told that I could spend the rest of my life with my left leg, from the knee down, 3 times the size of my right leg. I want to go home and cry my eyes out but I can't, I have to go to work and try not to cry my eyes out.

    Aw that is ****.

Can you get an appointment with another consultant? Just to get a second opinion and to be sure that this diagnosis is definitive.

Ah pixie, that is horrible. +1 on the second opinion.

I think if you were to cry, no-one at work would think any less of you. That is devastating news

New card, which is a horror in a laptop or new laptop

    How old is your laptop?

The laptop is less than a year old, and I bought it specifically for gaming - I wasn't as technically minded a year ago as I am now, and asked a friend for an opinion - I guess they didn't think of the Intel HD Graphics card, just the RAM and processor.
    Lyaiera wrote: »
It's possible with some laptops alright. Especially if it's onboard graphics. It all depends on the way the manufacturer has it setup.

Ah_Yeah: If you get through to the manufacturer they might be able to help you do it. Try sending them an e-mail if you can't find any help on boards or other forums.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try that!

Failing that, I might try to see if I can trade my laptop in for something else, or else refurbish my old laptop (which was a whiz of a laptop to play the Sims on) and keep it for just gaming purposes.

+1 to what everyone else said Pixie, second opinion all the way. When I broke my arm the doctor told me I'd never be able to straighten it again, I'd always have a curve in my elbow. Six weeks of physio later and it was right as rain. The body can do amazing things!

    Agree with the second opinion?

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Finding it hard to keep myself together after that news.

Unfortunately that is the second opinion. I've already been seen by a consultant in orthopaedics in Waterford Regional, as well as multiple Orthopaedic Registrars. The guy I went to see today has an excellent reputation and specialises in feet and ankles so I think I'd just be wasting my time paying more money for the same opinion again.

    I'm really sad :(

I can't fit my leg into any of my shoes or boots and ladies, you all know how it is with boots, if you want boots with wide calves you have to pay a good bit more than normal so now I'm thinking about all I'm going to have to spend on footwear into the future. I kept thinking I'll cope if it's like this for a year but resolves itself, I kept thinking that that wouldn't be the end of my world, but the rest of my life? It's just so ****.
