Got the notification before 6am but only noticed it at around 7am, so I finally have it in my hands!

Some of you might be a bit sickened about what I'm about to say.

First of all, I have the new model complete with nubs and smaller ring around the lens. But that's not the kicker. I was looking inside the settings and went into the various menus. I checked to see how much of that measly 8GB they'd left me with in the storage options and I noticed it said 12GB free. Either Linux has revisited 1993 and implemented MS-DOS DoubleSpace or Stacker or a modern equivalent, or they sent me the 16GB model. Looking at the box and delivery docket, they indeed did send me the 16GB model!
(don't worry, I didn't for one second believe that drive compression was the cause)

So to sum it up: the cost of the 8GB model - the percentage off that Flubit gave me - £55 from Flubit back for waiting an extra few days = the best Nexus 4 16GB deal in town!

Given all the delays and messing about you had while been supportive to others has your karma positive.

    Enjoy your new toy! :-)

I want to jump off a cliff. The display went kaput. Like a desktop GPU with faulty RAM, after about an hour, it just gave in with artifacts being a key indicator. I did the 30-second power hold and when I turned it back on, the Google logo was all messed up, again like a bad desktop GPU. I honestly don't know if it's the screen or the GPU but it's totally fubar now as I'm not even seeing artifacts anymore. I can see the backlight at times and sometimes the screen goes white and fades out (strange). But the phone itself is working, in that it does boot up, only I can't physically see it. When I was using it before it all went wrong, I noticed, maybe once or twice, the most subtle of flicker on a line or two of pixels but I thought it was my tired morning eyes playing tricks on me (it was really, really subtle) so now I know I should have been worried but it's not as if I could have done anything about it. The thing that freaked me the most is that it went during a benchmark (AnTuTu, the OpenGL test). Funny thing is, this happened to me in 2005 or thereabouts with a brand-new GPU. Went into HL:2 within the first hour and then things went nasty from there. Bad RAM.

Even though I didn't remove any of the plastic from the phone and kept everything as tidy as possible, the first thing I did was unlock the bootloader and root it with a custom recovery using that toolkit I posted about earlier. However, since USB debugging was enabled after the display went, I was able to unroot it using the same toolkit but as it wipes the phone during that process, it reverts the USB debugging settings and I can't see the interface to be able to enable it again, so now I can't do the final reversion step of relocking the bootloader. Hopefully that won't be a problem.

I called Fireworks and spoke to David again he said they will handle the return for me. The process is the same as if you contacted Google directly. Google send me a new device and then I return the old one but with Fireworks handling the go-between. David asked me if I had the 16GB and I said yes without mentioning the mistake, ha, so I'll likely get another 16GB model - but he said that there is more demand on them at the moment compared to the 8GB models so it could cause a delay.

Ah well. The phone's all packed away almost as tidily as I got it and out of reach so it's back to my I9000 with a jerry-rigged micro SIM (wouldn't you know I ported my number from a regular to a micro SIM as soon as the Nexus arrived).

I was thinking just that, right until the last moment! :P

What's a wait as long as it gets sorted in the end... I'm as impatient as anyone who wants a new toy to play with but it's just a matter of facing facts and dealing with the circumstances as best you can.

    That is some balls DECEiFER.

It would of been easier for the both of us to jet over to Google and grab one!

Sure, we could take a truck across on the ferry and fill it. Why not?!

Just remember to keep at least one good one for yourself!

Come to think of it, I'll never be the same running AnTuTu again. It'll be nerve-racking coming up to that OpenGL test. I bet you'll all be ****ting yourselves, too. :P

To be honest, though, if the subtle flicker I saw (before I even stuck a USB cable near the phone) was an indication of the display or RAM being screwed then it really was a ticking time bomb from the beginning. It was never going to last long.

I'll say one thing, though, god's toy. The colors were definitely odd to look at more so than I imagined. Even though I only have an I9000, I guess its AMOLED display has still had a large effect on my color perception.

Deceifer, I feel awful for you after all your positivity for everyone else. That is an absolute disaster. Does rooting actually void your warranty or anything like that?

I don't understand how there is such a delay on the 16gb. I ordered from google a day before the flubit one and got it on Monday. I had a friend in London ordered on Monday and will be getting it delivered later on today.

It says it does. I'll keep my mouth shut and let them send me a new one without complicating matters. :)

I don't know myself about the so-called delays but we'll see how it goes. I'll keep everyone posted as always and still contribute in the thread the same as before. I had no plans on running if the phone worked out anyways. I think there's a few regular posters here including yourself who deserve a pat on the back for not just coming here for answers and leaving once you got them.

Your attitude is still positive and I would view this as a test... But then I am Buddhist...
I understand how you must be feeling but it's all worthwhile in the end.

Your rooting process didnt change the kernel did it? (Assume not just checking). Once the BL is UL its possible to do is all.

Sorry to hear about the phone DECEiFER! Here's hoping for a speedy resolution.

I'll keep everyone updated on what I hear from flubit/fireworks. Ordered on Monday with a handling time of 2-3 days and a delivery estimate of Monday-Thursday of next week. Tonight is the latest that they could start shipping for it to be 'on time' according to their estimates, but I doubt it will work out like that especially with news of this possible delay on the 16gb model.

The only contact I had with fireworks was RE my address, as I posted before. David (!) said that he had updated it and I sent a reply to that message in the manner that they specify for a follow up, asking him to confirm the new address however 48 hours later and nothing yet.

    From flubit:

Unfortunately there is a backlog of orders with the supplier due to the excessive demand.

I am in constant contact with the supplier and will update you when I have a dispatch date.

At the moment I would expect your order to be dispatched at the beginning of next week

    Best regards

    David

I'm in the same boat. Ordered on the 4th but not a peep from them about it since. Delivery date is between today and the 16th, thought I'd have had a dispatch date by now.

DECEiFER you've defiantly had worse luck than me with this. Hopefully the wait isn't as long for your new phone.

No. Not as far as I'm aware. It's just a toolkit that uses the fastboot method (automates it).

I wonder if you can relock the bootloader without USB debugging turned on if you do it from the bootloader...

    EDIT: Nope. Can't be done.

    Hi All.

After 4 unsuccessful attempts to purchase nexus 4 from google play, I went with flubit option, which was fast and very efficient.
Unfortunately I have noticed that my device suffers from some sort of rattle around back camera area, when I put down the phone on a table or shake it! Sounds like loose screw or something.

Have any of you noticed it on your phones??

Apparently it is pretty common issue, just wondering if there are many of them like this out there...

Yeah, very strange. My phone display is dead as of an hour of use when I got it this morning (I suspect the RAM rather than the display itself) but there's definitely a small rattle by the camera if you give it a bit of a shake. It's subtle but there nevertheless and I might not have even noticed it only for you pointing it out (at least I wouldn't have straight away). I have the revised design with the nubs and smaller camera lens ring. It's going to be returned to Google once I get a new one shipped out and given that this problem seems to be common, I suspect the replacement will have a rattle, also. So long as it's not going to cause any problems, I suppose it can be lived with. To put your mind at ease, I doubt that has anything to do with why my phone is broken.

Hmm no rattle here (old N4 type) but a very slight buzz out of the loudspeaker depending on the ringtone.

@DECEiFER Hmm do you have a MHL connector/cable? Could be used for outputting the display onto a monitor or something if it's just for changing a setting (assuming the phone is still working and it's only the display thats dead.

This is a bit of an odd request but would someone be able to do me a huge favour and post a screenshot of the in call screen from the Nexus 4?

    Does that work?

Sorry bit huge but I think its what you want. Same as any jelly bean in call.

Edit - Mission, totally depends on how annoying the rattle issue is. Also maybe you should tell google now incase it gets worse and they blame you. If you tell them from the offset then you have a come back.
